  1. I have fantastic support with my boyfriend, family, friends and colleagues...but I want to be able to chat with someone who's been through it. I was banded January 7, 2010 and use Facebook/Yahoo messenger a lot...and I'm a textaholic! I'm 29 years old (will be 30 in August) and need a buddy who is technologically addicted like me! My stats are listed below as far as weight loss...anyone out there for me?
  2. No particular reason I didn't go to Dr. Garcia...I just called the number for Top Surgeons one day and got the ball rolling. I had met with a doctor in Delano last year, but wasn't quite ready for all of it...it would have been GB surgery, though, since that doctor didn't do LapBands.

For Women only: 1st fill, period, weight gain

Same here, girl! I stopped my BCP (Seasonique) in November with my consult, and had surgery on 1/7/10. Got to go back on BCP on 2/8/10 with doc's permission at my first fill...and the period started on 2/10/10. UGH! It hasn't ended, it's still heavy, and the cramping has been more than I've ever had in my life...even had to take a day off of work! I read in another thread that estrogen is stored in fat cells...perhaps losing a bunch of weight rapidly in 2010 has pissed off my uterus? Uterus...I hate you at the moment.

    Period talk.

Reading this thread helped...I had surgery on 1/7/10 and started the pill again on 2/8/10 after my doctor said it was okay. I've never had cramping in my life, had occasional heavy flows, but never anything that was a big deal. Had 3-5 days of some bleeding, controlled with a tampon... ...now UGH! WHAT THE HELL! I actually had to take a day off work because of the unbearable cramping this week, and my period is still going strong. Yes, I'm on the pill at the moment, but I think my body is mad at me for having been off of it pre- and post-op. I'm bleeding heavily, still cramping 6 days later...can it stop now, please?? Body, please realize that I take my BCP every night so that you won't be here. Only bonus is that I take Seasonique, so I'm hoping I won't have to deal with this for another two months! Damn weight loss. (Okay, YAY for weight loss, but damn this being a side effect!)

Help! I SOO want to cheat!!!

Tell that devil on your shoulder to shove off...you came HERE and posted a thread instead of cheating. Great job! Trust me, the weight loss feels much better, and has more permanent rewards, than a pizza

    quit smoking!

I tried...real hard. I quit for about 10 days before Thanksgiving after going through the pre-op work in early/mid November. I thought surgery was coming up quickly and was completely motivated! But then? It was a pain getting a hold of my surgeon's company to get the psych and nutritionist evals done...so Thanksgiving day, I bought a pack of smokes. I smoke about a pack a day...quit the day of my surgery, but resumed a few days after surgery. Oh well! As far as I know, no test was run on me. I'm healing fine, losing weight, and making sure I follow every other order (Protein, Water, exercise, etc.) and I'm feeling great 18 days post-op! :::lights up another Marlboro:::

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

I'll tell ya that I've been banded 18 days now...the swelling is gone, I'm eating regular food and there is NO restriction! Argh! Can't wait for my first fill on Feb. 6th! The only thing keeping me going is that I'm tracking my calories and nutrients on FitDay and making sure I'm working out with my Wii Fit Plus. If I didn't keep myself accountable? I'd gorge out - I'm hungry! LOL
  9. They're not very sweet - kinda like a marshmellowy lemon...with a thicker shell. I think they're a good balance of everything, and a great treat to start my day!
  10. You're awesome! I'm glad I met ya and am wishing you all sorts of luck! We have so much in common - right around the same age, I'm not married (do have a boyfriend), no kids, high school teachers...GO US! I'm excited for you to begin this journey!
  11. Jenn? You're my new online BFF :). YOU ROCK!

    Wii Fit Question

I got the Wii Fit Plus and Wii bundles for Christmas, after making it my #1 priority gift wish! When I first brought it home, I exceeded the weight limit...boo. I couldn't play Wii Fit Plus, but I *could* play Biggest Loser without the board. Now? I'm a little over 2 weeks post-op, have dropped 19 pounds and busted out the Wii Fit Plus again...it works! I was just a smidgeon over the 330 weight limit - it kicked me out the first time and wouldn't start up the Wii Fit Plus game (Biggest Loser wouldn't let me use the board either - but you can play that one without the board). I'm down to 319 now, though, so even with clothes...I work! Being able to use my new "toy" was definitely an initial motivator in my pre-op diet...and I'm glad I'm now banded and weigh a little less so I can use it!
  15. I was told to stop BC prior to surgery (instructions were "stop now" at my consultation). So, I was off of it 2 months prior to surgery. At my one month follow-up/first fill, I'm going to ask if I can get back on it...I've got a boyfriend 2,400 miles away that I'm seeing again at the end of March!

    Weight Loss Progress

A photographic way of accounting for myself, and watching the changes!
  17. Definitely! Where ya from?? I love positive people, and I'm determined not to let the "old" Joia win this time! I'm 19 pounds down and I can't "weight" to be out of the 300's! Let's go girl!

    cardiac evaluation

I had two tests for clearance. One was the EEG thing they're talking about (more jelly on the belly, feelin' around and watching my heart on a monitor) and the second was a stress test on a treadmill. Under 5 minutes of running/walking and they could easily see that I'm fine with activity - I'm just fat!
  19. I use these awesome, incredibly yummy, 40 calorie lemon chews...check 'em out! Calcet Lemon Creamy Bites - single box
  20. I blog - it's awesome! I, too, want to track my journey. Even though I started it less than a month ago, it's already entertaining to go back and read . You can check it out if you want - link's below!

    Rate of Weight Loss??

I started my pre-op diet on 12/31 and was banded 1/7. I've lost 19 pounds so far...it's the liquid diets, the loss of a swollen belly, change in diet, etc. I've been losing about a pound a day, but I know that will change rapidly once my body gets used to all that. Average weight loss, long term, is 1-2 pounds a week for LapBand patients. I go for my first fill 2-6-10, but I know this amazing weight loss I've seen already won't continue!
