  1. Definitely an inspiration! "Weigh" to go!

    4 days post op

Not having a bowel movement is completely normal - I think mine came at 6 or 7 days out. If you're concerned, add some Miralax to your Water to see if that helps move things along. As for the pain while drinking, that's definitely not a good sign. How painful is it? Regardless, I'd recommend you call your doctor as soon as possible to run it by him/her. A prolonged pain is nothing you want to mess with post-op!

    Are we allowed pills?

I was allowed to continue with pills as I could tolerate them. My birth control pill, for instance, is a tiny pill - I was told I could continue taking them as prescribed, so I took one the day after surgery.

Trust me, I feel like a fatty eating so much more than everyone else here... ...until I remember that my journey is my own. What works for ME is what matters (along with my awesome doc's advice!). Good luck!!

I'm always amazed at those calories...I find that I don't lose if I eat less than 1200 a day. I can easily get 1000 in per day, then work on the extra

    Breaking the news! HELP!

Something to remember...you don't HAVE to tell your boss. Technically, federal HIPAA laws protect you from having to tell your boss about the nature of your medical record. Is there any way you can miss the education class instead? I'm one that's been open with everyone - from Facebook to co-workers to friends. People will either support me and my choices or not...either way, I don't let their reaction influence my happiness.
  7. I'm not too far away in Germantown, MD, but I wanted to invite you to join our D.C. Metro Sleevers group on Facebook - we meet up once a month...and this month's meeting is in Alexandria!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/dmvsleevers/

    Curious...Carbs

To throw another answer in the mix, my doctor doesn't restrict carbs (or calories...or anything, for that matter). My only job is to eat a minimum of 70g of protein per day, and other foods are my choice. I've had a plethora of carbs post-op (I'm almost 3 months out), but find that I just can't eat much of them - they swell up in mah belly. I do enjoy them, though!

    pregnant and afraid

Congratulations! Consult with your doctor, of course, and I'm sure all will be well!

    bad pain

Another thing to throw in your head - my abdominal pain has been linked to my gall bladder (after consultation with my doctor and an abdominal ultrasound). I'm 12 weeks post op from the sleeve, but about to go back under the knife to have my g.b. removed.
  11. 12 weeks post op today...and an abdominal ultrasound revealed that my next surgery will be the removal of my gall bladder! Woot.....

    Im not losing. Urghhhh!

Doctors sure are different - mine has never set a goal for me, either and ending goal or by weeks. Until I was 8 weeks out, in fact, he didn't care what I had lost...only wanted to make sure I was healing properly and getting my fluids/protein down. Relax everyone - the weight DOES come off. Heal, take care of yourself and follow the plan. It WILL work.

    Im not losing. Urghhhh!

I agree with your husband . Keep doing what you're supposed to be doing - the weight WILL come off. I remember being frustrated early on, but my doctor reminded me that my job in that time period was to HEAL with protein and fluids...not to lose weight.

    Liquids with food

Post op? I absolutely can't drink while eating, nor can I drink until at least 30 minutes after eating. Restriction does that to a person

    Date confirmed. Now what?

The stat is true for everyone, based on the information...30% of your excess weight, though, so be sure you're calculating that . For me, I had 142 pounds total to lose (although "goal" is so far away, who knows what I'll look/feel like when I'm close to that). With that excess weight amount, 30% would be 42.6 pounds. Not sure when I hit that, but my three month surgiversary will be September 6th - and I'm down 50.4 as of this morning.

    Date confirmed. Now what?

I've seen repeatedly that sleevers should expect to lose 30% of their weight in the first 3 months, on average. I can tell you that I'm not quite at 3 months yet, but I've blown past the 30% part...so the statistic worked for me!
  17. Ask him about straws. And caffeine. (Since you're already asking about other hotly debated items )
  18. I track everything using MFP as well - mainly because I need to know how much Protein I'm getting in. While tracking can seem like a time suck (although, I find it very easy to do with my smart phone, tablet & computer. In reading your post, however, I think it's important to remember that I could not have done this without my sleeve. Yeah, I can track without it...but there's no way I'd be eating as little and as balanced as I do without it. I'd be starving. I'd give in and have a huge plate of nachos (and a burrito). I'd have days where I didn't care. The sleeve forced me to care, and it forces me to make the best food choices I can - I don't have space in my tummy to choose crap, and still get in my daily protein needs!
  19. Celebrating my 33rd birthday today...with a 50 pound weight loss!

  20. While the two very well could be related, this is something I would be calling my doctor about!! Ongoing pain, nausea, etc. is nothing to mess with - consult with your doctor, please!
  21. There are a ton of SF creamers and syrups on the market that are delicious - try them out until you find one (or several!) that you love! As for decaf...can't help ya. My doc allows caffeine and coffee. Mmmm....

When your weight starts with the number one!
  23. Then your body is adjusting - you just had major surgery (I'm guessing) and your body is bloated. It'll balance out
  24. Clearly your body needs more food.

    Momentive....is ....slowing....down

Easy thing about eating/drinking post-op? You physically CAN'T drink while, or after, you eat. It hurts. Seriously - I have to wait a good 30 minutes after a meal to even think about sipping something (I'm almost 12 weeks post op). Even if you don't get the habit down pre-op, you'll be forced to do it after!
