  1. I switched to ecigs (WITH nicotine) and have been fine without cigarettes. Nicotine, according to my doctor, is as harmless to your body as caffeine and he's okay with my vaping habit. Heck, I was vaping in the hospital post-op! If you're able to jump up to a nicquid with some percentage of nicotine, you may fight the urge. To each their own.
  2. From what I've heard, it's a combination of dehydration and the calorie reduction. If you've been focusing on protein, your body is going in a carb-starved state called "ketosis" which results in halitosis and smelly urine...lol!

    preop diet

If you're up for the challenge, go for it! I didn't have to do full liquids pre-op, but I had a 10-day pre-op diet. I struggled to make it through but kept my eyes on the prize. There's nothing wrong with starting early and jump starting your weight loss! Rather than get bored/frustrated when it counts, though, (when you're actually required to do it), my advice would be to start supplementing 1 meal a day with a protein shake to ease into it.

    Protein goal, finally!

    Woo hoo!! You go girl!
  5. Yup, and I deleted it instantly. I saw "Favor" had just joined the site 15 minutes prior to me seeing the message.
  6. I'm a workaholic, so it's been tough to have time off this past week. Luckily, I've slept most of my days away in between social media and TV! It's been an amazing week of R&R for both physical and mental recovery. I'm ready to head back to work Monday! It's tough to let go and enjoy the world of "nothing," but I highly recommend it!
  7. My NUT recommended Miralax...just bought some, so I'll start tomorrow!
  8. I'm officially one week out today and, to be honest, I've had a speedy, textbook recovery. After staying overnight in the hospital, I was discharged and came home to sleep. I stayed on pain and anti-nausea meds regularly until Day 3 post-op simply to make my recovery easy (I chose to stop taking them then; there are still plenty of pills left). Over the past week I've been pretty self-reliant - I've been drinking fluids, Protein shakes, etc. and just sleeping and taking it easy. I haven't really been in much pain (I was shocked!) and have had no problem getting in and out of my recliner and bed. I walk around my 2-story house fairly easily, albeit slowly, and was well enough for a Target shopping trip for necessities on Day 4. My only limitation, really, has been lifting - I'm not to lift over 10 pounds (doc's orders). As such, I haven't been doing that because I don't want to harm anything in my stomach/abdomen. I'm eager to return to work on Monday, although I'm still sleepy! Taking it easy and drinking water/protein has been my job this week and, in all honesty, has been the best thing I could have done for myself. As a note, I have no kids and my 2 kitty cats have been very loving this week . My other trips this week have been to the doctor's for a post-op visit on Day 6 followed by a quick grocery shopping trip, and a trip to the vet with my kitties today (while I had time off!) - my boyfriend carried my kitties for me in their carriers. I'll be heading to a friend's retirement party tomorrow night and looking at houses on Sunday (we're moving later this summer). I know I'll be tired, but hydration and protein are the key! As for work next week, I anticipate early bedtimes .

    June surgery dates

I've been eating mine as I would have pre-op, although I do go a little slower. I tend to let any pieces that come off melt in my mouth before swallowing. But, I was given ice chips in the hospital post-op, so the same concepts apply!
  10. Hello everyone! After having the LapBand installed in January 2010, losing over 100 pounds, then gaining all but 30 of it back when the band severely slipped (solid food intolerance meant that high-calorie frappuccinos were my best friend!)...I'm more than stoked to have had the band removed in March and my sleeve surgery scheduled for June 7th! Can't "weight" to see the success that you all have been seeing! I've got my cupboard stocked with Protein, Vitamins, sippy cups, blender shaker bottles, etc. - let's go! P.S. I'm 32 years old!

Congrats! I'm Day 7 post-op and feeling pretty hood myself

    2nd week post-op

I can! I was commenting to my doctor yesterday that I was almost scared at how well my liquids go down. I had consumed a full 24oz water bottle in the hour it took me to drive to the doctor. Thicker liquids (i.e. my protein shake creations) take longer (last night's double shake took nearly 4 hours), but I'm doing just fine with thin liquids. You?
  13. As long as what you're taking is citrate and not carbonate, you're fine. Citrate is easier to digest.
  14. My regimen includes a multivitamin and calcium citrate - that's it! I bought Opurity online after clearing that brand with my NUT. The only caution is to take the calcium citrate at least an hour away from the multivitamin (no matter what brand you go with) because the iron in the multi negates the absorption of the calcium citrate.

Make a choice NOT to be disappointed in yourself! Be proud of what you've accomplished and all you've conquered so far!

    June surgery dates

That will continue while your stomach is healing. Just keep taking it slow and sip, sip, sip!
  17. The Frosty Protein shake: 1 scoop vanilla protein, 6oz milk (I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk), 1-2T unsweetened cocoa powder and ice! Blend and enjoy FYI - I doubled the recipe which is why I had so much protein in it. Took me nearly 4 hours to drink it...lol!

    It's Like They're Daring Me...

My experience with 100 calorie packs? Little to no food and little to no satiety. I'll stick with some protein or veggies that will do the trick better
  19. You'll lose as much as your body wants you to lose in the first month. Everyone - and I mean everyone - is completely different in their weight loss journey. Focus on the rules (protein, hydration, vitamins, etc.) and the scale WILL go down! A number does not define you!
  20. Em - Over and over I see people talking about stalls early (and throughout) the journey. 3 weeks out seems to be a VERY common stall around here. Keep doing what you're supposed to be doing (hydrate, protein, multivitamins) and the scale WILL go down eventually! Have you measured your body parts? It's crazy, but sometimes we lose inches rather than pounds. Your body is recovering from two major shocks to your system (surgery & calorie reduction), but you will make it! Just keep breathing and following the rules - you'll be rewarded for your efforts

    Pre Op Liquid Diet...really?

Keep drinking the water (it's a great tummy filler) and just put your mind to it. This pre-op diet is leading up to a huge change for you that will be worth the effort you can put in now! I wasn't on a pure liquid pre-op diet, but my pre-op was tough! I am proud to say I didn't cheat once in the 10 days required - I kept my mind focused on the prize!
  22. Mine hadn't eroded, but it had slipped almost completely to the bottom of my stomach. I had to have it taken out in one surgery, let my stomach heal for awhile, then had the sleeve done 11 weeks later.

    Egg drop soup

I think that entirely depends on your doctor! Mine would say no...that's a puree and I can't have them until Week 3. For full liquids, though, I can have just about any soup as long as I've strained anything chunky (like noodles, potatoes, meat, veggies, etc.) out of it. Can't wait to try the Light Loaded Baked Potato soup I bought earlier today...of course, strained .
  24. The great thing about the sleeve? You can't NOT lose weight if you make the right food choices! Focus on protein & hydration and that pounds will melt off! My biggest obstacle will be turning down frappuccinos . Luckily, I've found some homemade recipes for protein shakes that mimic fraps - I'll choose those as a substitute! I'm enjoying a "Tastes Like a Wendy's Frosty" shake right now that has 50g of protein!

    Post Op Experience

I hear ya - my boyfriend was looking forward to taking care of me once I got home, but I've been a pretty self-reliant and easy patient! Saw my doctor today for my post-op follow up and they agreed that I'm progressing well! I was prepared for the worst, but got the best!
