  1. I think that Sue is right. Why not focus on the non-appearance related things about your weight loss that you will enjoy...feeling better, buying clothes in a normal store (not important the exact size or how you look in them, just that you CAN!), not worrying every morning when you wake up how you are going to manage your portions of food for the day... My surgery is on the 15th, and it occured to me yesterday morning that I will someday soon never wake up again and worry about how I was going to lose all of my weight. I am no longer doomed to being fat with a miserable weight loss battle ahead of me for the rest of my life. THAT was the best feeling in the world--I will now have a tool that will help me be satisfied with the right choices and the right portions. I am thrilled.
  2. I am tired of drinking stuff that doesn't fill me up. I guess it's a good thing I'm getting a lap band! What was your favorite filling thing you had on your pre-op diet? I'm drinking chocolate whey powder that's 5 carbs a serving. Pretty good when you mix it in milk. Cottage cheese is good when you feel you need to chew something. Any other ideas? I'm going to totally wear out on 'Better than Broth' here by the end...

    Keeping surgery a secret

I like to take a CIA approach to this, and put it on a 'need to know' basis. Some people, in particular, health nuts who think themselves the most righteous people to give dieting advice, are EXTREMELY judgemental. These are also people who have never known hunger like we have, IMHO. They don't need to know. When you start losing weight and people ask you, then tell them. That's how I'm doing it. It's not like anyone was going to discourage me from doing this surgery, but it helps to not have a bunch of negative ju-ju thrown your way because you told the wrong person.

    Attack

Have you had your insulin tested for insulin resistance? That's how I used to eat before my doctor put me on metformin. I am not diabetic, just really insulin resistant. That is how I used to eat before I got on the medicine to keep my blood sugar even. I would be compelled to eat when full, and it was usually junk--especially carbs and sugar. Now, not so much, I only eat poorly when I'm overly hungry
