    stay filled or unfill?

I say stay filled as long as you can. I'm taking from experience. Not sure if the rest of people who replied have ever been pregnant with the band, I have twice. First pregnancy with the band ended with a miscarriage at 20 weeks. I had lots of swelling of the band due to vomiting. In hind site I should have had an unfill at that point. By no means did the band cause the miscarriage. I went into preterm labor. 2nd band pregnancy I was completely unfilled immediately because I was convinced that I needed to be in order to maintain a "Healthy pregnancy." We'll that ended in a chemical pregnancy (early miscarriage.) An unfill is not necessary unless you can't eat and drink. For those who fell you need to eat more while you're pregnant I totally disagree. As you stated you only need an additional 300 calories while you are pregnant. You may very well skate through your pregnancy without any complications and I hope that you do. Lots of banded women do. Or you may have frequent stuck episodes and need an unfill. My suggestion is that you wait until that point. Trying to gain restriction after being completely unfilled is a b***h. I can't describe it any other way. Congrats and good luck
  2. Great topic. I'm curious to read others responses. I had a complete unfill in April 2013. I was at 6.7 cc's before the unfill. I could immediately feel the difference within 2 hours after unfill I was eating huge portions. I did have slight discomfort from overheating but that was it. In all honesty 6.7 was probably too tight but I had great restriction and control. I'm now at 6.0. First fill was about 3 weeks ago PA gave me 5 cc's. had another fill Friday which brings me to 6.0. I still need more fills to get back to where I was feeling like I had restriction. I've gain 17 pounds in the last month. I've lost about three of those pounds. I feel like I'm not even banded I have NO RESTRICTION, I'm flying solo. I'm do exercise regularly and have gone back to basic, protein protein protein. My real problem is just bing able to eat too much.... I know that's the problem for all of us.

    Is this normal?

Yes this is normal. I did 6 months of supervised weight loss classes with a dietician, psychiatric evaluation, heart test then insurance paperwork was submitted. I was approved.

    Fill during pregnancy

I know how you feel, on one hand your ecstatic to be pregnant and on the other hand your terrified of gaining weight. Look on the bright side if you've lost weight before you've proven to yourself that you can definitely do it again. Good luck
  5. Hey All. Here's my story. I had a son in 2008. Was overweight for years prior to that. Gained 50 pounds during that pregnancy. In 2010 was banded. From 2010-2011 I lost a whooping 90 lbs, wasn't at goal yet, but had to stop losing because guess what......i was pregnant. Sadly I miscarried at 20 weeks, most devastating thing I've ever gone through. I had so many complications with my band while pregnant, dehydration, extreme restriction, nausea, constipation....you name it i had it. Well we tried to conceive again, it should be easy right? After all we had conceived before so easily. Welllllll dam, that's not what happened we tried and tried to no avail. Ohhh yeah at this point I was at goal, I was looking cute with a whopping 120 pounds off my body. I was now 5"10, 150 pounds. We ended trying Inter uterine insemination (IUI) in Nov 2011, that didn't work and we were out of pocket $300. We tried unsuccessfully to conceive for 4 more months, naturally. We finally were prescribed Clomid (ovulation drug) at tried another IUI, this time we were out of pocket $700. Well it was worth it because it worked. I am now 2 weeks pregnant. With IUI or IVF you know almost precisely what day your conceived. Up until this point my band had been pretty darn tight, restriction was at it's max level.... anything tighter and I wouldn't be able to breath, lol. I had a bad episode a week prior to finding out I was pregnant. I woke up choking, I think I aspirated my food, in fact I know I did. Lap bad nurse requested that I come in immediacy for an unfilled. Went in Friday, March 29 and was completely unfilled to avoid future complications during pregnancy. I now feel like I had never been banded. I can eat ANYTHING, im actaully thinking about food now.....it's horrible, I think I've gained like 10 pounds in 5 days. Emailed nurse, give me some of my Fluid back PLEASEEEEEEEE.
