Any August 2010 Bandsters?
losethemess replied to kimclow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, MRSBURE I am currently doing the 6 month medically supervised diet. I started in February, hoping for a August surgery. I have completed two visits with nurse. Don't lose your mind, it's hard to get it back. I pray you stay encouraged. Just think in a few months we will all be celebrating together. JENJOHN38 I spoke to the financial coordinator at my doctors office and she said (BCBS TX, which is what I have) doesn't require you to lose a set amount of weight. The nurse told me something that encouraged me, she said I am ideal candidate for the surgery because I do have the ability to lose the weight, I just can't keep it off, so at least you have the first part down. Good luck to you as well. -

Month 2, lost 7 lbs, not really that much was hoping it be like 15. How's everyone else? This waiting sucks, big time. Want the surgery NOW. Had a baby about 16 months ago. All the women who had babies around the same time have ALL lost the weight except me. This weight has attacked my self-esteem big time. I know I'll lose the weight. But I'm just not as confident as I once was. I have faith that all will be restored. Anxiously waiting and hopeful. Good luck everyone -
Good morning, I'm worried about losing too much weight on the 6 month medically supervised diet. For some reason I'm rolling on this diet (South Beach). I've lost 7 pounds alone this week. Don't get me wrong, I need the band. I have these phases that I go through, during the year when I become serious about weight loss and some diet actually works and I lose weight. The problem, is that it works temporarily and I end up gaining all the weight and thensome back. Partly because I feel starved, loss motivation and the diet becomes too hard to stick too. Anyway how much weight is too much weight to loss in order to get insurance approval. We first weighed at doctors office I had a 40 BMI, I'm sure it dropped a little. What's a safe amount of weight to loss, or safe BMI range to be in, in order to still get insurance approval. I have BCBS TX Anthem, they are require 40 BMI, initially or 2 co-morbities (don't have any) and the 6 month diet. Anyyyyy suggestions or incite is welcome

Any August 2010 Bandsters?
losethemess replied to kimclow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello ladies, Kimclow, I am also a teacher and am hoping for a summer date, so that I have time to recover without having to take off time from work. The biggest challege is that, this diet is a mental struggle, because someone is telling me to eat healthy and exerice, I simply can't do it. I think that I am so interested in the band, I don't even think about the dieting and exercise that goes along with it. The biggest challenge, is simply starting the diet and exercise regime. I know that I need to incorporate both in order to be successful. I know, I know, I know, but I simply haven't done it, YET. I will though soon, I have faith. My doctor is Dr. Daniel Scott, he is going to do the single incision surgery, which I'm also excited about. I'm ready to get this weight off, I'm tired of always being tired and out of breath, heartburn all those things. I can't wait. -

I'm hoping for an August surgery. I will complete my 6 month medically supervised diet in July, and by the grace of God, I will get an August date. What are you? Are you currently trying to complete the 6 month diet. It's been terrible for me, I wish I could have the surgery tomorrow. -
Try the book "The New Rules of Lifting for Women: Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess" is a great book for weight lifting. Weigh lifting is great way to tone and burn extra calories. When I was in shape about 6 years ago, I weight trained and the results were wonderful. If you're worried about looking bulky don't it's very hard for women to bulk up.

Congratulations and God Bless

Hello, I wasn't really looking forward to 6 month medically supervised weight loss program. What I've learned from reading the blogs and meeting with the nutritionist and nurse is that the goal of the program is not necessarily for you to loss weight or to simply get insurance approval. Although both would be great, the real goal is to get you to change your habits, behaviors and mindset to prepare you to be successful post-op. My realist attainable goals between now and my next appointment are to drink strictly water, no sugar and no fast food. Sound ambitious, I know. Good luck me:tt2:

Well, I was also considering the Vertical Gastronomy but decided on the lap band, primarily because it's less invasive. I want to have another child and I don't want a have to go through a major surgery. Also VG, restricts absorption, which can cause problems.

Thank you Good Sir. I have read an abundance of information about this procedure and completely understand that it is a "Tool." Read forums, websites, no books, attended seminars, yes I am very informed about the procedure, possible complications, etc... You have to eat healthy and exercise, I understand that. BCBS TX still requires the 6 month medically supervised weight loss sessions. Psych Eval, not a problem to complete.

Has anyone had their surgery at UT Southwestern-Dallas? I am interested in the single incision surgery and am considering Dr. Daniel Scott and Dr. Homero Rivas.

Went to meet Dr. Scott on Tuesday, made 41 BMI, thank Goodness. Now I have to complete Psych Eval (scheduled in 2 weeks) and compile all of my medical records showing all of my medically supervised weight loss attempts and send to doctors office. Feeling optimistic

Good morning everyone, today is my first appointment with Dr. Daniel Scott. I am with a new insurance provider BCBS TX. Pray for me that I get approved. I am about 6 pounds underweight for a 40 BMI. I've been trying to gain pounds for about a month and nothing. Amazing to see how truly out of control my weight is, I can't even intentionally gain weight. I am going to wear a weighted vest for weigh in. Anyway, pray for me everyone. Pray for my approval and success. I'm praying for you

Dr. Daniel Scott at UTSW, single incision lap band
losethemess replied to gentylwind's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello, I am interested in the single incision lapband procedure. I am scheduled to meet with Dr. Scott on Tuesday, January 19th. I wanted Dr. Scott originally, he wasn't available until February so I choose Dr. Islam. My appointment with her was canceled because she had to perform surgery on the day of my appointment. I asked who else was available a fortunately for me Dr. Scott was, Praise the Lord, wonderful how that worked out. Anyway, how are you doing since the surgery? How long was your recovery? How soon where you able to return to work?
