    hi!

What are the people, you are talking about reasons for not losing weight? If you are banded, you follow the guidelines, exercise, diet and fills you should lose weight. I haven't read their post so I can't really speculate. Being banded is so difficult because you do most of the work. I think mentally preparing your self is key. Doing the pre-op diet and preparing for what you are about to endure after surgery, changing your eating and exercise habits is what you need to do in order to be successful. If you feel comfortable at your current surgical center and if you feel they will provide you with the proper support after surgery, I wouldn't cancel the upcoming surgery. It's really your decision. I love my Dr and the office staff they are great.

    Words from the Wise

Hmmmm I was banded on Monday. Good: Repaired Hiatal Hernia. No appetite. Happy I finally did. Survived surgery. Bad: Surgery was delayed, went in about 2 hours late. Can't lift my 24lb son for long periods of time or play with him like I used to. Thankful for help from husband. Not able to drink anything for almost 48 hours, that was terrible. Couldn't drink anything the day of surgery or after surgery because of Barium swallow the next day. Very hard to sleep and get comfortable, laying on side is painful (no uncomfortable, put PAINFUL). Prescribed Hydrocodone which makes me extremely drowsy, hard to function while taking this medication. Very difficult to walk around and stand up straight after the surgery. The Barium swallow was horrible. I had to swallow a thick yellow liquid then a thick white liquid. I had to swallow it when I felt horrible and I had to swallow alot of it. Tips: If you have kids, arrange for some help with them at least for two weeks. Be prepared to be in pain (uncomfortable) for a few weeks.
  4. I stayed overnight and did a Barium swallow. I also had to swallow some other nasty substance. I was not allowed to eat or drink anything after midnight on the day of surgery. That s**t was so gross I felt like crying. I had to take like 7-8 sips of both I almost finished both I drank so much. One was yellowish and the Barium was thick and white. I'm happy it was done. I'd rather catch a problem earlier that suffer the consequences later on.

    Post Op Diet

Thanks, HappyHealthyme2010. The IV explanation makes sense. Try the V8 Soups. I emailed my nutritionist and she said I can eat them. Try them and tell me what you think.
  6. Thanks for your feedback. I'm doing great, I'm trying to make sure that I'm exercising everyday. Hope you are doing well also. Thanks again.

    Banded Monday, gained 6 lbs????

Thanks ladies, I appreciate your feedback.
  8. I was banded on Monday, August 16th around 5pm and had a hiatal hernia repaird during surgery. After surgery I was able to drink 1 cup of apple juice and a few sips of Water. The nurse said I couldn't drink anything after midnight because of the Barium test the next morning. Around 8 or 9 PM I forced myself to walk around the hospital. After returning to my room I went to sleep, woke up around 4AM and forced myself to walk again or course with help from the nurse. At around 9PM they did the Barium test, I had to to drink approximately 1 cup of a thin yellow liquid and 1 cup of a thick white liquid, that made me sick to my stomach. After testing was done, I still was not able to drink any water or juice because they were waiting for the doctor to read the test results and write orders for a full liquid diet. So fast forward to 3pm my husband arrives to take me home and we still have not heard from the doctor and I have not had anything to drink. Finally around 5pm I get orders from the doctors for full liquids I have a some water and broth and a sip of juice (trying to limit the juice intake). I go home on Tuesday, wake up on Wednesday drink 1 cup of Muscle Milk (Approximately 11 grams of protein) and about 2 cups of water and walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes, almost 1 mile. I weight myself and I have gained 6lbs. I'm not panicking just wondering what is going on??? In summary I didn't drink anything for almost 2 days, exercised and I still gained weight????
  9. I was banded on Monday and had my Hiatal Hernia repaired as well and am having abdominal pain while breathing. I assume it's the hernia repair that's making it harder to breath. Water and deep breathing seem to help along with stretching. Good for you for using the spirometer. I am averaging about 1000-1500 in the morning and 2500 at my peak in the afternoon. I rarely use that thing, I need to use it more.

    hi!

Howdy, I live in TX I was banded on Monday in Dallas. Good luck to you. Are you going to be banded in London? Have you had to follow a pre-op diet? If so, how's it going? I lost 12 lbs during my 10 day pre-op diet. Keep me posted and again good luck.

    Post Op Diet

I was banded on Monday as well and have a huge appetite. I was in the hospital from the 16-17th and did nothing but sleep. Maybe that's why I am not hungry I'm still in sleep mode. I was told that I could eat the V8 Soups, check out the link V8 Soups - Healthy V8 Soup Home Page. Anyway have you lost any weight? Have you been able to exercise? I started on the treadmill yesterday and will do 30-40 minutes today. Try the soups and tell me what you think. I would follow doctors orders and not change anything without first consulting with your doctor.

    Catheters and TOM...

Good question. I was on my period, the day of my surgery. I was given the granny panties and no catheter. I was told to urinate before I was taken into the operating room in order to avoid the catheter.

    Prayer Request

    I'll pray for you.

    Banded today all by myself!!!

You are so awesome. I'm thankful that you were able to do it without help. You should be extremely proud of yourself this by no means is an easy surgery. Good for you motivating yourself to get your walking in. I was banded on Monday NO one knows at work I lied as well. My husband has helped tremendously have a one year old son who I could not care for without help.
  16. I was banded on Monday. My doctor did repair a hiatal hernia which we both didn't know I had until the surgery. My doctor said it's a slight tear of the abdominal wall caused by lifting something heavy. He said hernias are insignificant except if you are having this type of surgery. Without repair it could cause acid reflux. Like Btrieger stated you can have one and not know it. It never caused me any pain or discomfort. My surgery was covered under insurance. Not sure if they will pay for hernia repair and extended 28 hr stay.

    I'm back and BANDED!!!

    Congrats, how exciting.
  21. Yesterday I went to my first Weight Loss Support group and I absolutley loved it. It's great to get support from fellow weight loss surgery patients and it's great to speak face to face about their experiences. Methodist Health System has several weight loss support groups in Dallas, Richardson and Mansfield. USMD has meetings in Arlington. I don't work for the hospital nor am I affiliated with them, I just thought this information was too good not to share with my fellow bandsters. Check out the links for more info: Classes & Events USMD - Your Physician Owned Hospital Serving Arlington, Texas and the surrounding area
  22. Yes I too had to do the 6 month supervised diet and was worried about losing too much weight. I was very motivated at the beginning of the diet them, my motivation fizzled out and I stop losing weight, the story of my life. Hopefully this doesn't happen to you, but this is one of the reasons why we decided to have the surgery, because we need help losing the weight. My insurance coordinator told me that my insurance company BCBS TX usually uses the Medicare standards and they like you to lose I think 5-10% of your body weight during the 6 month diet plan, I'm not 100% sure about that percentage. Anyway I only lost 9lbs. My suggestion talk to your doctors office about your concerns. I was approved late July and am scheduled for surgery August 16th. You want to lose as much as possible because after the surgery you'll have less to lose, your also don't want to lose too much and jeopardize your chances of being approved.
  23. Hey Angera,I am scheduled to be banded on August 16th. What day is your surgery? Dr. Scott is doing the single incision. Who is Doctor?
  24. I think people at work would sabatoge my efforts. All we do at work is eat unhealthy food. Luckily only my husband and mother know. Haven't told anyone partly because of what you are talking about.
  25. I read the post in the right context, not apology is necessary especially not from me. Maybe from her, to the person she directed the message at. Anyway lets let her speak for herself. Sympathy sounds alot better than someone saying you "Feel sorry" for someone. What if I told you I feel sorry for you because you are overweight, how would that make you feel. Anyway not trying to argue, just trying to get people to stop being judgement and stop offending other people. Be conscious of what you say. I think it's offensive.
