  1. The answers to your questions really depends on what your doctor recommends? I think your doctor will tell you if you have to stay overnight or if you'll be discharged the same day. My doctor informed me during my post op visit that I would stay overnight. My surgery took a little over 2 hours. I had the single incision surgery which takes twice as long as the traditional 5 incision lap band surgery and I had a hernia repaired. Hernia's are often undetected and ofter repaired during lap band surgery. I nor my doctor new I had one before surgery. I stayed overnight and to answer your question I'm thankful I did because I was in a lot of pain after surgery. I had a significant amount of pain 2-3 days after surgery as well. I took off one work a week ahead of time and used the entire week to recuperate. So to answer your questions Would I have chosen to stay in the hospital a night--Yes , Would I go to a after care place. No, I'd rather be at home if I were discharged the same day. Would I rather have a live in nurse the few days after surgery?? No, I'd rather have a friend help than a nurse, what are friends for if they can't help you when you need them the most? Did you have any discharge from your wounds? No I didn't have any discharge from my wound. My wound was covered with Dermabond, which gradually disintegrates. Hope this helps
  2. During my pre-op visit my doctor told me that I would get a Medium Size band. What size is that? I guess it's 10CC's. Does anyone know for sure?

I like Kroger Carbmaster, it's 3 grams of sugar and 13 grams of protein and taste exactly like regular yogurt.

    So, a LP patient goes into a bar . . .

Ask for a Skinny Girl Margarita next time they are approximately 100 calories. Or you could do Vodka and Crystal Light, bring your own packets in your purse. Instead of Cranberry Juice Cocktails. Get the alcohol with no juice and add Crystal Light packets.

  6. I was told I could take liquid Tylenol when I return to work in replacement of the prescribed Hyrdrocodone which makes me drowsy. I looked for it at Walmart, couldn't find it, I asked the pharmacist and she told me that there was no liquid Tylenol and that I have to use liquid children's Tylenol. I took it today and it didn't take away the pain. I took 400mg the same amount I would take if I were taking the pill form. I ended up taking the Hydrocodone. Where did you guys find your liquid Tylenol and Advil?

    Appealing insurance - HELP?

Well it sounds like your doctors office has not submitted anything to your insurance company yet. That's good. If you are close the required 40 BMI, you can try to gain a little weight in order to meet the insurance requirements. I too have BCBS I think I paid like 10% out of pocket. I was required to have a 40 BMI. I didn't so I did what I had to do in order to meet the 40 BMI. Like I said you can gain weight or wear extra cloths, drink lots of water and wear weights in your close during your weigh in. In box me and I'll tell you exactly what I did. Once I meet the BMI requirement, because I did not have the co-morbidities I did the 6th month medically supervised diet. I was banded on August 16th. Good luck.
  8. I was banded 13 days ago. I had single incision. My port is right next to my belly button as well. I can feel it, OMG. I'm not too worried about it because I know I may be eligible for revision surgery if it's too noticeable once I lose the weight. Honestly I don't care, I'm just SO happy to be banded. My advice, don't worry about it when it become a problem worry about it.

    Return to work?

I was banded on August 16th (feels great to say that WOW. )I am also a Teacher and there is no way I could have gone back to work the next day. I took a week off of work. I was in a lot of pain after surgery and needed time just to sleep and heal. I guess you can try to cage how well you'll react to the surgery based on your pain tolerance. I can't tolerate ANY pain so I wasn't surprised that it took me about two weeks to recover. If you can tolerate pain, maybe you'll be ok. Try taking off at least a day or two after surgery. Tell them you are having surgery. Legally you are allowed to take time off of work for medical reasons. Good luck.
  10. Thanks everyone, found some at CVS. Now, I'm not in any pain so I don't need it. I'll keep it just in case.

    Bodybugg alternatives

I felt compelled to respond to you.$250 is pricey to her, you don't know her financial situation.

    Sick Right Before Surgery

I agree with the others that you definitely need to consult your doctor about this. I suggest you postpone your surgery. Even before hearing from your doctor I know you will experience pain after surgery if you currently have a cold. Trying to cough, laugh, use the rest room or anything that requires abdominal contractions, which is everything will be extremely painful after surgery. I waited 6 months to have my surgery and was very anxious to have the surgery, I know where you are coming from. Knowing what I know now (I've been banded for a week) if I was sick before surgery I would postpone it. I remember thinking when I had a few short coughing spells, that I was happy I didn't have a cold because if so I would be miserable.

    Driving....

Are you a Teacher? So am I. I think the driving restrictions are because of the pain medication your doctor prescribes. I was prescribed Hydrocodone which clearly states not to operate heavy machinery after taking it. I guess if you aren't taking any meds 2 days after surgery you should be ok to drive. The restriction is due to the pain medication

    Gas problems anyone?

Have you tried releasing gas from the other end? I was also banded on Monday and started using Docusate a stool softner. I don't have very much to release these days except gas (air) so the the Docusate really helps to release some of the gas from the other end. Try it I hope you feel better soon.

    Approved, but no date???

Yeah I was approved and not given a date immediately and I couldn't understand. After calling a few times I got my date about a week after approval. There are some who get dates immediately at some like us who have to wait. Goodluck keep calling your doctors office.
  18. I wanted to post the same question. I understand your concern over two weeks after your surgery and still feeling pain sounds a little unusual. Regardless everyone's pain level and tolerance is different. I am 5 days post op and am still taking my pain meds. I too can't tolerate a lot of pain. Maybe this is why I still taking mine. I may need to contact my doctors office to get a refill. I'm going to take them as long as I have pain or discomfort and as long as the doctor says it's ok. I think you should contact your doctor. If the doctor oks it then continue. You're not a baby.

    33 and single forever??

There are tons of dating websites make sure you always update your picture and profile info at least update weekly. I love yahoos dating website. I love church eventhough I haven't been in months. I agree its not the greatest place to meet men its a great place for you, forget trying to find a man. One thing that Im 100% sure of is that God loves you. Take comfort in that. Try the gym, grocery store. Try changing your look, try volunteering. I met my husband on a dating website. I made contact with him first. Boy I'm happy I did. Why is life so difficult well I'm not sure about that. I do know it's so hard being single when you desire to be with someone. I'll pray for you. Give thanks in all circumstances because its Gods will. You will find someone I'm sure of. Let me assure you that you arrived not single because you are overweight or because of some other issues. I have two good friends one 31 and he other 47 who are skinny and single. So it's not that. I wish I could give you a big huge. Keep looking he's out there. DON'T GIVE UP.

    Pressure in my chest :(

I was banded the same day and also had a hiatal hernia repair. I also have chest pain and love my meds, Hydrocodone is my case. I posted something about this, this week and few banders who also had hernias repaired complained of the same problem so I think it's normal. I use the breathing thing they gave me at the hospital. That helps a little. Drinking Water and coughing wih a pillow over your stomach also helps.

    33 and single forever??

Sorry you feel sad. Rejection sucks. He may already have a girlfriend, he may be Gay, he simply may not be interested. My suggestion ask someone else out. We have alllllll been rejected. I know I have, more than once. Good for you having the courage to ask him out in the first place. At least you know you can approach a man so again, good for you. If at first you don't succeed, try try again.

    hi!

I have my post op appointment on August 16th, then another appointment September 23rd, so I'm hoping for a fill then. It will be approximately 5 weeks after my surgery. It's on my calendar as a Post op nutrition class, but I will email my office about the fill. Not 100% sure it will be that day. If your able to get outside support after surgery then you should be fine. I waited over 6 months to get my surgery, so once the date was set, I wouldn't cancel it for anything. I'm a teacher and I even missed the first week of school to have the surgery.

    Advice needed!!

Yeah you may be able to do it, but honestly you may feel weak, soar and tired. I was banded on Monday and I definitely feel better today, but healing is progressive. It got better and better each day. Because of the pain medication and the fact that you are not able to eat a lot during the first two weeks, standing up and having to speak on top of not being able to eat will be challenging. I felt extremely tired three days after surgery I was barely able to stand erect because of the pain (not soarness, I want to be clear that it was Pain) in my abdomen, there is no way I could have gone to a wedding. Weddings usually last hours and I probably would have been crying. I guess it's all dependent on how you handle pain, I have ZERO tolerance for pain. I think the pain I felt for this surgery was worse than childbirth. I'm not trying to scare, you I'm trying to be honest. Granted I had a epidural so I couldn't feel anything. Although the pain is initially bad, you heal pretty quickly. I understand it's your cousin. May you could go and read and then go home if you start feeling sick? That's definitely doable. Just being there for a few hours then going home to rest.
