thompson632 replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
95 lbs in 30 months! I thought I was a fast looser. I started at 481 and I am now 378. But I want to start loosing faster as well. I doing pretty good, 18lbs in one week, then is started to drop off. The other day I could eat a bisquit, so I know I need to have my fill checked. Last time they would not fill it because I could not get chicken down. But I think I need a fill. Hey, I would love to chat with you and compare strategies. Could you e-mail me at cwc632@aol.com. I would appreciate your knowledge. Thanks - Carole -

The only time you will throw up is when you eat food that is not chewed properly, too big for your opening, or things that you know you should not be eating. I am a carb addict. All I want is a sandwhich. But I can't. I cannot eat bread, bisquits, toast, whatever anymore. It took awhile to accept that, but I know that I will throw it up, so I do not even try to eat it anymore. Besides anything white will make you gain wait anyhow, learned that from South Beach diet. I don't even eat potatoes or baked potatoes much anymore, only as a treat. So remember, it is just things you are not supposed to be eating in the first place. Think small, think mushy, and chew, chew, chew. Somedays I can eat tuna salad, other days I cannot. It depends on how much food is already in your pouch. If I can help, e-mail me at cwcthom632@aol.com. Good Luck Carole -

You are going to be fine. I was banded in November 2006, I weighed 481lbs and now I weight 378. Its not easy, but it is much easier than trying to stick to a diet. I will tell you this, that no one told me. When you are a food addict, this fight is way more mental than physical. For six weeks after surgery I still ordered the wrong food and the wrong amounts. Old habits are hard to break. But once you realize that you cannot eat certain things anymore, or you will throw them up, or they will hurt, you will learn. It is kinda like Pavolov's dog. You figure out by trial and error what you can and cannot eat. Then you learn to live without the things that hurt you. The hardest thing for me and still is, is not drinking while eating. I was a big water drinker, especially with my meals, and I just can't do it anymore. But let me tell you, I still have 240 lbs at least to loose and I didn't really start feeling terrific until about May I belong to a gym where I walk and jog in the water. It make my legs stronger and gives me some time to myself. Its great! Good luck, if you want to talk more, e-mail me @ cwcthom632@aol.com. I would be happy to help. Good luck, Carole -
Here is the truth about the band

I was wondering if you have suffered any hair loss? I have and I quit drinking the protein drink and I guess it was a mistake. I have lost 102lbs. since November and I agree with everything in your post. But especially how they don't tell you what a mental trip you have disconnecting yourself from food, could have used a head's up about that! -

I started at 481 and am now down to 388. I had surgery in November. My question is how do you deal with your sagging stomach and still keep going on your weight loss? I haven't weighed this amount since the 90's and I feel great, but I know I have a long way to go. Any suggestions for keeping in a reality check? Carole -
Hi my name is Carole and I am from Hurst Texas. I was banded in November and received my first fill in December. I don't really feel much different. I expected to be loosing more weight much faster than I have been. Is it unusual to start so slow.? I got my first band on December 28th and I don't feel any different. I don't want to get discouraged this early. I have really big hopes for this. They also told me that I can't be filled again for a month. That makes no sense to me. I am going to call Dr. Marsden on Tuesday. If anyone has any info on this, please e-mail me and let me know - cwcthom632@aol.com. Thanks:faint: Carole

My surgeon was terrific! He was a cardiac surgeon before he started doing lap band, so I figured my heart was in capable hands during the surgery, he has done over 3,000 lap band surgery, so I felt very confident. He has a great personality too. If you in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, let me know and I will give you his name and number. Great doctor. I hope you are well on your road to thiness, you deserve it. Stay cool Carole -

Hey Jerry I have always been a swimmer. I go to Bally's and walk and jog in the pool. It is great exercise and everyone there really supports me. I also swim laps.. I really miss it, and I haven't been since I was banded (Nov 17) and my first fill was last week (Dec 28). Really give it a try, your legs will get strong very fast and it will also help you tone up and loose weight. Good luck on your journey!:clap2: Carole from Texas

 Hi, I was banded by Dr. Marsden on November 17th. He is the greatest. I have alot to loose. When I first saw Dr. Marsden I weighed 481, but when I came back for my surgery I weighed 431 - I had lost 50lbs. He told me not to tell many people because you usually don't loose that much weight, but I was estatic.!! I went for my first fill on December 28th. I don't feel that much different. The first month after surgery I only lost 5 lbs and I gained and lost it over and over again. Dr. Marsden said he expected that. I felt that I could eat anything and sometimes I did. But it was on the day I didn't drink the protein drink. The drink reallly does keep you honest. I also found a better and cheaper drink than they sell at the dr. office. Its called whey protein drink and it only costs $12.95 at Walmart. Tastes better than the one they sell also. It has more protein and less sugar. If there is anything else I can help you with, give me a shout. Wishing you good luck and a Happy New Year! Carole - from Hurst:rolleyes:

 I was just banded last Friday, November 17th. I had lost 50lbs before the surgery in the four weeks before surgery. I was so excited about that weight loss, my surgeon said it was a record! Recovery has been great...haven't had any hunger pains:clap2: and I am adapting to the liquid protein diet very well. So far I have not missed food, by the way, did I mention I have alot:faint: to loose. I started at 481 and I am now 431. I haven't weight since the surgery, so I am anxious, but I am going to wait until Friday, my week anniversary. I never had any pain from my wounds, just the port was sore. I slept in my bed the first night and have ever since. My sister flew in from Colorado and cleaned my whole house and painted my kitchen. I am so grateful to her. She has given me a great new start in my life and my house.:clap2: So if you want to chat please give me a shout...I can use the support. Thanks for listening... Carole from Texas -

I just came from a seminar today with Dr. Marsden. He is in Hurst, Texas and he spoke often about Dr. B. My surgery is scheduled for October 6th. My insurance has an exclusion clause, so I have to pay cash. However, I have a great family that will help me out. It has been great reading your comments, they really do help. It took me several days to find a lap band forum, though. Good Luck to all!
