I was wondering if any NJ area Banders would be interested in doing the Tri-State Tough Mudder in Englishtown, NJ this November. Check it out @ ToughMudder.com. Its an awesome event for and even more Awesome cause. Anyone interested in joining me, let me know! Ive done 2 so far and its by far one of the best post band things I have conquered!

Its def not for the faint at heart. Its not timed, so you have from when it starts to when it ends to finish. It was validating for me in a way. I've done the Warrior Dash too and TM is much more intense. Dont be intimidated! Even if you dont finish, you still have more guts than most people

Hi! I am scheduled for surgery on Jan 15, 2010. I am competitive in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and I am so affraid that I wont be able to compete after surgery b/c of the port (if you arent firmiliar w/ BJJ it is a submission based Martial Art). I know that I have to wait to get back into training, that I'm fine with. Does anyone else had/have the same fear? Im at the point that I will cancel my surgery instead of giving up my passion. My surgeon is great but I am leery about answers he will give me. I think they may be biased. Any help would be WONDERFUL!

I was wondering the same thing. I've always had bad hiccups, but now they really HURT. Like in the chest area. Hope someone can shed some light

I know/train w/ a few UFC and WEC fighters. They looked into it for me and asked around and no one had any info on fighters that have had any type of WLS. Thats why I was apprehensive about having it done, bc i didnt know the effect it would have on my training. Plus I think the other problem would be w/ UFC fighters is the weight classes. You have to maintain or get bounced. There are a few fighters that would get wrecked in a lower weight class. IDK about NFL players, but its not all that likely for pro fighters.

4 days post-op, really bad hunger pains
Huckleberry Gal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok guys, I need your help! I had my band placed on the 15th. I am experiencing wicked hunger pains, to the point that Im getting really nauseas and even light headed at times. Also, has anyone had problems w/ post op runs? . Im really batting 1,000 here. I have stepped up on my liquids and put a call into my doc. I can only imagine what bandster hell is like. Please help! -

I am also from SOC! Had my band done by Dr. Reich on the 15th. Everything went great until my overnight stay and the nurses that couldnt get an IV on me. That was THE WORST after 3 nurses and 6 tries, they got a nurse from CCU to put a line in, it took awhile but she got it on the 1st shot. Over 2hrs w/ no fluids, no pain meds and no nausea meds is a DRAG. Other than that, Im all good -
Did you name your band?

Hey Guys! Sorry to intrude on the manly posts but I have some answers for yall regarding the heavy stuff. I compete in both BJJ and MMA. My surgeon says that I'll be able to take direct shots to the port w/ just alittle discomfort after 4-6 weeks. Which is good b/c they're both a huge part of my life. For awhile I was going to cancel the surgery bc I was so worried about complications if I got hit. Now the only problem Im thinking about is dropping weight classes for competitions! Good luck guys!

Huckleberry Gal replied to mandyfsc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My date is also on the 15th. I met w/ my surgeon today and he told me to start the pre-op diet on friday. Im excited/apprehensive/nervous, etc. My biggest thing is being able to deal w/ the weight loss since I have been large since childhood. IDK...Good luck to everyone next friday! Send me a PM if you have Facebook and want to track progresses together! -
When is "serious" exercise permitted?
Huckleberry Gal replied to critterlady's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I do competitive Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. I was told between 4-6wks I should be able to go back to full time live training w/ minimal discomfort. SUPER HAPPY! -

Keeping surgery a secret
Huckleberry Gal replied to Chele6378's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Guys! I go for my band on the 15th. I am excited yet alittle apprehensive. As for telling people, at first I told me husband but only after I met w/ the surgeon. My Mom I told eventually and she said "I was going to talk to you about getting that, but I didnt want to hurt your feelings...". I asked my husband to keep it mum, but one day when we were swimming w. his mom he innocently said "did you tell my mom what your having?" so I was trapped. So I told her and got this as a response "WELL, you have to watch what you eat or your just going to get fat again. I had a friend BLA BLA BLA" Nice right?? <--- I use that as fuel by the way... As for other people...I told one of my Sgt's @ work (im a police dispatcher) & I told my Jiu Jitsu professor b/c he deserved to know (and I wanted his input b/c of my training and competing) As of the other day the guys on my shift at work found out b/c of the Sgt from day shift mentioned it and they were still there (I work Midnights) and to my surprise they are super supportive! We are really close anyway which helps. They've given me work out tips for after surgery to tighten up the loose skin etc. Mainly they like to joke around and tease me (which is fine w/ me b/c its good natured). So I guess after that schpeel, the best advise would be to play it as you go. Ofcourse were going to find people that will look at us funny for our decision, but they need to understand that we are starting a journey to better our lives. PS Im new here....How do I get that fancy stuff for the bottom of my message?? lol
