  1. Hi everyone...looking forward to the meeting tomorrow. How many people usually attend these meetings?
  2. Tommorrow is one month since I started my pre-op diet....I have had no caffeine or carbonated drinks for 30 days--seriously had doubts I could do that but its been good. I had headaches the first couple days without my morning joe but once I started with decaf coffee I was fine. Decaf tea just didn't do it for me. I had my weight check today and confirmed I was down 15 pounds in 30 days. I am very pleased with that but I know it wont stay dropping so quickly but it sure has got me motivated. I have been walking more and am up to 2 miles about 4 times per week. I hope next week to even do longer walks. I am logging my miles and hope I will have walked 250 miles by my birthday in August. My goal is to do the "Run for the Hungry" on Thanksgiving...well, in my case it will be the "Walk for the Hungry" because me and running is not a pretty sight. I am anxious for my apt with Dr Park on March 8th...I hope she lets me move forward without much delay. I am hoping I have surgery in Mid May and I am taking the full four weeks---you guys are so brave that started back after 2 weeks. Have a great night! What I did good today--my boss brought in some delious looking scones from Panera's .... didn't even take one nibble. It was real hard to avoid them! What I did bad today---had pintos and cheese from taco bell for lunch and wendy's chili for dinner Yikes!
  3. I was wondering the same thing! lol
  4. Hi everyone, This newbie will be there Saturday...hope I can go to lunch too but have to wait for my son's baseball schedule. I am off to Kaiser for a weight check! I was hungry so I already ate my lunch so probably will mess up my weigh in a little but that's ok, will make it up next week. This sunshine is wonderful and my son has a baseball :thumbup:game today so I will be soaking up some rays! yeah.
  5. Tamara, Hang in there, you will get it. Lifestyle changes are hard in all aspects. I love your honesty and that keeps all this real and keeps you accountable. You have lots of people here on your side that will get on your case for good reasons. You are at a tender stage and have come along way--don't go backwards-- fill or no fill. Keep walking! Everyday your one day closer to goal.
  6. Today is the first day I actully feel like I lost some pounds! Yippee...I could never believe the scale when it said I lost because I felt the same but today I feel like there's a little less of me. Still no one has noticed but that's ok...there is so much of me it will probably take 40 pounds before someone notices. Have a great day!
  7. Candra, I would say that you have tried enough home remedies....go today to Kaiser; you should not be suffering like that. Take care of your headache and don't worry about the food; that will happen as soon as your better.:tongue_smilie:
  8. I actully like the cream of rice...lol I grew up with cream of wheat so it was a nice change. Foods that I have always hated--hard boilded eggs, cottage cheese, tuna---somehow have become my friends. I am so glad that I can eat them now and not gag...at nearly 50 my taste buds are changing!!!:tongue_smilie:
  9. I will be happy to receive any clothes; over the past year I have bought very few clothes and what I bought was all size 24....so I will be happy to recieve any 22/24's. Hopefully I wont have them long but it would be great to help me get through and then I will have something to pass along to the next group of newbies. Saturday will be my first meeting at point west but from what I learned was it runs from 11-1 and then lots of them go to lunch afterwards. I don't know what room but they said just ask when you get inside the building door. Looking forward to meeting everyone. So glad to learn that shoe sizes shrink too!
  10. Hi everyone, It's my day off today and days off are so hard to stay on track with food but I am doing good today so far. Yesterday my boys had friends over so I made them cookies but of course I had to eat a couple but I have put the remaining ones in a baggie and hopefully they will stay put away...lol I walked 2 miles this morning and it felt pretty good; I have been doing about 1.5 miles in the evening but since I was able to walk this morning in the daytime I felt I could walk longer. Can't wait to meet you guys this Saturday at the Point West meeting. I have a funny question, did any of you lose weight in your feet? I so want to wear a smaller size shoe...lol Have a great day.
  11. Riley, You are an inpiration to us newbies....your struggles are real and you seem to have your priorities in good order. Losing weight can't be the only focus on this new life....confidence, love, and overall happiness is important too. Keep up the awesome job and you will refocus and get to goal.
  12. Tamara, That's awesome! Keep up the focus. Lee, Take care; I think you might want to email your doc if today isn't any better. I'm waiting for the sun to shine to energize me.
  13. Ash, I don't have a goal weight yet. I guess Dr. Park will give that to me on the 8th, is that right? My goal is to be down 20lbs by the 8th when I see her. Weekends are hard!! My son has a double header baseball game tomorrow so hopefully I can do some walking inbetween games and stay away from the snack bar!!!
  14. Lee and John, I am glad all is going well for you guys! Take care of yourselves and look forward to hearing you share your stories.
  15. I had my weight check today with my PCP and I am so, so, so excited that my home scale matches Kaiser's scale pretty close so I have lost 14 pounds since orientation. You guys have all given me inspiration! When I am struggling its nice to know that everyone goes through these struggles and you just pick up and get going again! -Ali:thumbup:
  16. I am excited for the point west meeting and to get to meet so many of you. Since my PCP is in Roseville, I am not familair with the Point West Campus. What room and/or building is the meeting in? I have to make an apt with my PCP's nurse to get a weight check--so I need to so I can see how close my scale is to Kaisers!
  17. Hi everyone, I guess I am a lurker....I have been reading your posts for the past couple weeks and rarely posting. You guys are really funny, supportive, and inspiring! I do have a question- How do I get a weight check? Can I just walk into my PCP and asked to be weighed? I have been on program for 3 weeks and my scale is registering 15 pds down but I don't feel like that is accurate so I would like to check my weight on a Kaiser scale. I plan on going to the Point West support group this month, do they have a scale there? Great day everyone and positive thoughts sent to the ones having surgery this week.
  18. Good luck Nicole....happy for you that your day is finally almost here! Great job on losing 40 lbs--that's awesome. I made your chili yesterday and my hubby loved it! It was yummy and simple. Will be anixious to hear how your next few days go!

    Gaining Support

I kind of had those same thoughts about myself as I begin this journey and I am guessing my family would say the same...one reason I have not shared this with many yet. But I must say after reading this site for a coulple weeks I relize that this surgery is surely not the easy way out as people with bands have to constantly deal with food choices and the band is only a tool --it is surely not the easy way out. I guess as your family and friends learn about the lifestyle you will have afterwards that hopefully they relize that this choice was drastic but in the end your life will be much healthier. Not really an answer to your question and I kind of rambled but I admire you for telling your family as I am to chicken thus far....
  20. Cool Lee, I hadn't noticed we had the same...hope you don't mind. I really didn't know what I was doing on that ticker thing so I just kind of picked the first pretty one I found....lol Hope everyone had a great day and I hope to be strong tomorrow and not eat any guacomole! lol:tongue::thumbup::tongue:
  21. Thanks Laurel and Nicole for the receipes--guarentee I am gonna try them all! Need to focus on healthy cooking choices and keeping some variety around. If I can cook something my family will eat that will even be a bonus! Happy Saturday everyone!
  22. superbowl is going to be tough without all "those" foods....thinking some sort of chili might be good and full of protein. Anyone got a good receipe that will fit in with my pre-op diet?
  23. Nicole, You're having surgery next week and you will only be off work for a couple weeks? Was that your choice or is that what the doc ordered? In orientation I thought they said you are typically off 4 weeks.
  24. Any of you in the Sacto area go to the support group meeting at Raley's last night? I forgot but I am very curious to learn more about it.
  25. Weight watchers is good; that does help with the accountablity. When did you start your process? I would like to learn more about that group that meets on Thursdays as that is close to me. Do you know what type of group it is? Maybe I check out the Raleys website and will have some info.
