Spring into March 2010 Bandsters
kujhawkrulz replied to NYSparklegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I am being banded March 12, 2010 and the time doesn't seem like it is flying by fast enough, but I know it will be here some day I'm 38, mother of 2 boys, an LPN in nursing school as we speak to get my RN. On November 6th, 2009 I herniated my L4 disc and have been in and out of agony ever since. My doctor suggested I take off at least 100 pounds, but told me that it would all have to be done by diet or at least until I could get the pressure off my spinal nerves, yeah RIGHT!!! Anyways, all I am waiting on now is for my income tax return to get here as I am flying in to El Paso and going into Juarez MX for my surgery to be performed by Dr. Jose Rodriguez as I do not have insurance and his reputation seems pretty good. I am using BeLiteWeight to facilitate my surgery and they are very nice. My biggest problem with my weight seemed to come after my children were born and I had double oopherectomy operations after tubal pregnancies. I just started racking up the weight until I am so out of shape, my metabolism is shot, and I can't seem to get it off. My weight gain is making me hurt everywhere and I am to the point I won't look at myself in a mirror anymore. My S.O. is a little reluctant and thinks I might leave him after I lose the weight, but with reassurance he is actually starting to get excited and showing me a lot more support. My family, who is all in the medical field, are very hard headed and continue to believe that I should just eat right and exercise and it will come off and feel that what I am doing is a bit self-serving and I could use the money somewhere else. I will be very happy to join the March-banders and wish each and everyone of you the best of luck!! -

I have a date!!!
kujhawkrulz replied to SippNSotaGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I noticed your date of March 15th, that was my original banding date, but they backed it up to the Friday after my nursing final so that I'd have time off before I had to go back for the last mini-semester. So we will be very close as my date is March 12th----we'll have to keep in touch!!! -

My surgery date is March 12, 2010 during Spring Break from college and I'm so excited I can hardly think of anything else!!! The new semester starts this week and I must get ready for it and try to do well the next 8 weeks while I patiently wait. Good luck to you and hopefully you'll keep posting as you go on with your surgery for those of us who are lurking in the shadows waiting for our day to come  -
Kansas City avoid Dr. Niazy Selim at KU Med
kujhawkrulz replied to Froggie D's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm in the medical field and you are paying them, you shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get them to send information to your insurance company. As for the staff that is rude, they should be turned in to KUMC and fired. As for being too busy to talk to customers, well lets just put it this way....she is the first line to the doctor and if you can't get passed her then what the hell!!! The surgeon should know that his staff is rude and there is no way in hell that he would keep someone in a position like this that is costing him money. -
I will be banded on March 12, 2010 during Spring Break, as I am currently in school for my RN. I have been an LPN since 2005 and decided to take the plunge and finish up my education and in the process suffered a herniated L4 disk on November 6, 2009. My doc told me that I had some major life style changes to make if I was going to be able to practice as an RN and #1 I need to drop 100 pounds. I was not in shock, I knew what he was going to say before he ever opened his mouth and I immediately began talking to people about other options besides another fad diet. That is where my journey actually began, finally coming to grips with the idea that I was powerless over my weight and that no matter how many diets I have been on in my lifetime that I needed some help. During the summer I took a nutrition class and actually dropped 40 pounds by eating healthy and exercising to only gain it back, plus some during the fall semester and let me tell you I am truly at wits end. I am very thankful to my physician for being honest and candid, but at the same time I wanted to scream at him for telling me to lose weight but also putting me on an activity restriction d/t my herniated disc. I finally have the feeling back in my left leg and have been cleared for walking only. I have been able to manage getting through college and only have one more semester left. I just hope that everything goes well with my pre-op diet and the surgery. I am 10 weeks out from surgery, and it sure seems like a lifetime away, but I am sure it will be here sooner than I think. I am really glad to have found this online support group and forum, so far what I've read has been very encouraging and I hope to add to the discussion.
