  1. Well they made me empty my pockets and take off my shoes. They wouldn't even let me weigh with my car keys in my pocket.

    Leg edema

Are you sure you haven't injured that leg? I have bad edema that's only in my left leg but mine is due to a bad knee injury.
  3. What I mean is I was talking a girl I know who had Gastric Bypass. She had it several years ago and now she has about 40 pounds left to lose. She said it's hard b/c now her stomach is bigger and holds normal amounts of food again. Will you ever get like that with Lap Band? I would think not but I'm just asking:)
  4. All right. I'm at 221/37.5 BMI. My insurance company wants me on a 6 month supervised diet. I started almost 1 month ago. My surgeon's office talked to me today and told me to say I'm dieting but not to lose any weight. Now my questions are- My doc specified on my diet that I DON'T have to journal what I eat. She doesn't want to see what I'm eating. If I don't do a journal is the insurance company still going to be happy or should I do a journal just in case and keep it for myself? At one time I followed Weight Watchers and I still have my old journals. Should I just copy those and recent dates? I hate, hate, hate lying to anyone especially my family doc but I've tried so hard to lose the weight on my own and I can't:( Thanks everyone!

Do you still eat out after banding?

Thanks! Your stats look really good BTW!! Congrats!
  6. If I'm approved my surgery and all medical bills relating to it will be covered at 100%. So what other expenses will I have? I see some of you posting about Optifast and Vitamins and I saw a supply room full of vitamins and protein powders at my surgeons office. I'm just trying to get an idea of how this will all work.
  7. Thanks! I can't wait to get through all this.
  8. My nutrition eval is set up for the 8th and I still have to schedule my psych eval. what happens at these appointments? What sorts of questions will I be asked?
  9. Thanks! New clothes definitely sounds good:)

    Really discouraged by insurance company

I used to do medical billing. You need to send in a formal appeal letter and attach a copy of your pre authorization approval.
  11. I only weighed 112 when my thyroid started acting up. That was 14 years ago. Since then I take a huge dose of Synthroid every day and I'm still gaining weight:( It helps it does it's just not a magic fix. Will they still do your surgery now? Per my insurance company if they find a disease that could be making you gain or hold onto weight then that must be treated first before they will do the Lap Band.
  12. Currently my BMI is 37.1. I have hypertension, sleep apnea and arthritis in my knees. My surgeon's office started me on a supervised 6 month diet the first week of June. Last week they called and said stay on the diet your insurance does require it. Then they said they'd get all my medical records together and then send it to my insurance. So I get approved before doing the 6 month diet or what? I'm confused about that and I'm scared to lose weight now since I'm so close. Also I'm only 30 so I've never had my cholesterol checked. If it were high would that help? What I mean is should I get it checked? Thanks Everyone!
  13. My BMI is 37 and I have hypertension- controlled with meds, sleep apnea and knee arthritis. Today my insurance company United Healthcare told me that in order for me to qualify my hypertension must be UNABLE to be controlled with meds and my sleep apnea index must be at least 16. Mine is only 8. So does this mean I won't qualify unless I gain more weight and get my BMI up to 40?
  14. I'm calling today to find out what the policy is. The first time I asked my insurance company I was told there is no 6 month diet needed, but my surgeon's office said they were told that I do have to do the 6 month diet so today I'm going to call my nurse case manager and see if she knows the real story.
  15. What is your BMI? DId your insurance pay for Lap Band or did you have to? I'm just curious. My BMI is 36 but I also have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, bad knees and depression. My insurance says I qualify so I'm hoping they will pay if not at this point Dh and I may just finance it.

    Frustrated as hell

I had female surgery done in May and they gave me a Scopolamine patch at the hospital. It was the best thing ever! No nausea at all and no drowsiness.
  17. Okay thanks! I'll call again Monday. We have a Family Case Manager-she's an RN maybe that's who I need to be asking.
  18. Another question I have is I called my insurance company and asked if they required a 6 month diet and they told me that my plan didn't specify that it required that. All it specified was a BMI of 40 or a BMI of 35 with co morbidities. Then when the surgeon's office called last week she said I talked to your insurance company and they do require a 6 month diet. She told me to stay on my diet and after she received all my medical records she would submit everything at that point. So how can I be sure they actually require the diet and she's not just telling me that? Does that make sense?
  19. I'm sort of confused and in limbo right now. My surgeon's office called last week and told me to stay on my diet b/c my insurance DOES require a 6 month supervised diet. They said they are waiting on my medical records and then they will submit it to my insurance company. So I don't know. I'm scared right now to lose any weight at all, but I'm also very unhappy with my appearance:( I just keep telling myself to deal with it for a little longer and then I can finally start my last diet ever you know?
  20. I'm so glad you posted this b/c I'm in the exact same boat! My BMI is 37 with comorbidities. My insurance requires a 6 month diet first but I'm scared to lose any weight now.
  21. I'm just starting this process. I go on Tuesday to see what my insurance requires before they will cover it. They told me they cover it at 100% and that I definitely qualify so I'm hopeful! Anyway before I do this I want to make sure I fully understand everything. Is there anything you absolutely cannot eat after Lap Band? After having the surgery are there any lifting restrictions? I'm a stay at home mom to a 9 year old, 3 year old and 2 month old. Will I still be able to lift and hold my baby?
  22. I don't even know how to answer some of this stuff. There's a list of like 60 diets and you have to put which ones you've tried and when you tried them and how much you lost. I can't remember any of that stuff. I know which diets I've tried but I'm not sure about dates or losses:( It's going to take me a week to get through this paperwork.
  23. What I mean is yesterday I was told it would likely be a six month process b/c most insurance companies require a 6 month supervised diet first. But the lady said she wouldn't really know until my insurance tells her and she won't even try to find out for at least 3 more weeks. Is there a way that I can call and just ask them what the requirements are?
  24. I have United Health Care and I tried calling to see what their requirements are but they said my employer's plan doesn't list the requirements. My surgeon requires you to fill out these papers b/c he sends it in with your predetermination.
