  1. What I mean is this: I was approved yesterday and my BMI is right at 37. After the preop diet if my BMI goes below 35 I can't be denied right? I tried to ask the co ordinator this question yesterday and she's so flipping hard to communicate with. She immediately started scolding me about how I must follow the diet and lose 10 pounds or they won't do the surgery etc etc and she never did answer my question. Also should I worry about losing the 10 pounds? I mean will I really lose 10 pounds on a 10 day pre op diet or should I start a few days early and do a 12 or 13 day diet instead?

    Insurance dilemma

I think you should talk to someone in your human resources department. Ask them if the new plan will cover it. As long as it will cover it I wouldn't think you'd have to wait any longer.
  3. Well I had something similar. For me everything is covered 100% EXCEPT the dietician and psych consult which my insurance does not require but the surgeon does. That was $225 cash. I was given some Un Jury sample packets to try but I haven't tried them yet. I'm also wondering which powders/shakes taste best.

    Question about steak

I'm glad you posted this b/c the dietician told me I would NEVER eat steak again. This post gives me hope:) Steak is one of my favorite main courses and I like it medium well.

    LB Friendly RESTURANTS!

Okay I got a temporary card that I was given at my pre op appt on Tuesday. So does Lap Band automatically send you a permanent one or do I have to order it?
  7. I only asked b/c I've had 5 surgeries total- 3 of them were abdominal and the only one I had pain with was my knee surgery. I'm just wondering if I might get through this without pain also.

    Blood Pressure

Definitely check with your doctor. It sounds like your bp is too low now.

    Wow! Approved in 3 days

    Congratulations!!!
  10. IDK b/c my paper says to make the Protein shakes with Water only. But then it goes on to say that I can have no more than 3 servings of skim milk, cottage cheese or yogurt a day. Misleading huh? Why not just put the milk in the shake?
  11. Her PCP told her it couldn't be done that way but I was thinking he was wrong. She'd totally do it if it could all be done at once.
  12. My mom, dh and MIL are very supportive. My FIL says I don't need surgery I just need to back away from the table:( And my friends say Why are you doing that? Your not even big enough to qualify. Then they are shocked to find that I am big enough to qualify. I think I'm through telling anyone and I'm going to keep it to myself until after surgery.
  13. That's kind of what I was thinking. I didn't get approved until this week and last week I decided I was tired of my clothes being so tight so I ordered new ones. Had I known approval would come so quick I would have waited.

    I'm APPROVED!!

Congrats to us both:) It's such a great feeling isn't it?
  15. My diet will be strictly Protein shakes and sugar free Jello, popsicles, cottage cheese and yogurt. My last weigh in will be August 3rd and then I have surgery August 6th.
  16. I think it's normal. I've done the Atkins diet before and I figure the pre op diet will be pretty similar. On the first 2 weeks of Atkins you would go through a lot of symptoms. But by day 4 or 5 you'd start feeling better and your appetite would actually diminish greatly. I'm expecting to feel pretty crappy but it's worth it!!
  17. First off what is the best tasting Protein powder/ Protein shakes to use for the liquid diet? Also she said I should never eat tough meat like Steak, Bread, Peanut Butter or fibrous vegetables after surgery. Does that mean I will never eat those things again? Does fibrous vegetables include salad?
  18. I start my pre op liquid diet on Tuesday. I have a 10 day pre op liquid diet and then more liquids for 2 weeks after. So here's my question. I'm a stay at home mom. We live on a small farm and my dh is a meat and potato man. He loves home cooked meals. My kids could care less though they really hate meals and would rather have junk. So I'm thinking about telling dh that he's on his own. I can't see cooking a great meal every night when I can't even eat it. Even when I'm able to eat real food again he's not going to want to eat what I'm eating so then I'll have to make 2 meals every night:( How did you guys handle this? Advice please.

    Super Frustrated!!!

My friends mom chose the band over bypass. She started at 350 and is now 170. She's done absolutely great with hers. It is frustrating but you'll get there. Good Luck!!
  20. I plan to:) I thought I'd miss food or a crave a last unhealthy meal but I don't. I'm ready to get started on my journey instead:)
  21. you have a good point there. Maybe that's what I should tell my friends. I'm big enough that I have sleep apnea, hypertension, GERD and arthritis in my knees. I'm tired of hurting and not sleeping well at night and I want to be able to run and play and keep up with my 3 kiddos.

    No Comorbidities

Your chances are really good. Most of the time if your BMI is 40 or over you aren't required to have any co morbidities. Just call your insurance company and ask what there requirements are. Mine required a BMI of 40 with no co morbidities or a BMI of 35 with at least one co morbidity. Good Luck!
  23. I have a 9 year old, 3 year old and 4 month old. I'm a stay at home mom and my dh works all the time. I was told no lifting at all for at least a week. I can't even lift my baby:( But I have my MIL and my Mom helping me out with the kids. I just have to do this and I can't wait any longer.
