Stomach flu/throwing up
spoiltmom replied to skinnyorbust's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure. I know I had a hysterectomy a few weeks ago and my surgeon was adamant that I get a bottle of Phenergan before hand and take it around the clock for the first 3 days to prevent any vomiting. He even gave me extra just in case the kids bring home a virus or something. -
Feeling weak... Tired... HELP!!!
spoiltmom replied to lucy5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would see your family doc. Get your iron levels and your thyroid checked. Also make sure your getting enough protein and taking a daily vitamin. -
Scars...what are you using?
spoiltmom replied to stefaniwg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Mederma but I don't use it. I already had scars on my belly from my gallbladder surgery and now they are a really pale pink so I figured the Lap band scars should fade out and look the same way. -
August Rush in bandland!
spoiltmom replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats!!! I wasn't losing before my fill either. But I'm doing awesome now. -
I started out taking Miralax daily. Then my surgeon recommended this instead: Vitamin Shoppe This really works! I only use a teaspoon at night. At that rate this container will last me around 6 months. You just mix a teaspoon or two of it with a small amount of Water. It fizzes so I stir it up let it sit 20 minutes and then stir some more. That makes all the fizz go away and then I drink it. It tastes good also:) Just thought I'd share. It's just magnesium which is something our bodies need anyway.

Is anyone offended when they find out you've had Lap Band surgery?
spoiltmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My health insurance covered my Lap Band surgery. My BMI was 37 starting out and I have had sleep apnea and high blood pressure for years and I'm only 30 so they covered it no problem. One of my relatives also has lap band. She had to pay cash for hers and she started out at 300 pounds. I was 230 when I started. Anyway she told me she couldn't believe I had done this and that I was nowhere near big enough for Lap Band. She almost seemed offended. It kind of irritated me. I'm big enough to have weight related health problems and big enough that I can't keep up with my kids so IMO I'm big enough to do something about it. Right? -
have any of you wished you did gastric bypass instead
spoiltmom replied to racheyrach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did Lap Band b/c it has a very high success rate with a very low mortality rate. It's easy and completely reversible. Plus it's adjustable. It was a very easy outpatient surgery and I really had no pain from it besides the gas pain. I was back caring for my 3 kids within 2 days. -
Whats the longest we know of anyone having a band?
spoiltmom replied to BobBigBoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know a lady who's had hers for at least 6 years now with no problems. -
August Rush in bandland!
spoiltmom replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's awesome! My surgeon only does 1 a month. But I think it's b/c he's only in the office 2 days a week. He's in surgery the rest of the time. It's always PACKED at his office. -

I had 3 cc's in my band from surgery and didn't know it. It made no difference for me at all. But on last Tuesday I got 1 more cc and I'm great now. I can still eat anything without getting stuck but I get full after a cup of food 3 times a day. -

Waiting on insurance approval and it makes me sick to my stomach
spoiltmom posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm waiting to see if my insurance company United Health Care will approve me and every time I think about it my stomach just turns. I'm so, so nervous and afraid they will say no. Even if they say no the first time I think I could get them to approve it on appeal but I really want a no hassles quick approval. My UHC doesn't have many requirements so I'm hoping I'll slide right through with my high blood pressure and sleep apnea. How in the world do you get through this part? It's absolutely nerve wracking to me. -
Have you guys watche Too Fat For Fifteen?
spoiltmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The biggest loser thread got me to thinking about this. I've been watching this show for several weeks now and I can't decide if it's good or bad. This "camp" takes overweight kids and teaches them how to lose weight. They stay at the camp and if they follow all the rules they get a small allotted time where they can call their parents once a week. They get no more than 20 grams of fat per day and they do all their school work and get a lot of exercise while at the camp. From what was said on the show it must be very expensive b/c one man said he cleared out his 401K to pay for it. These kids do need help but IDK sometimes this seems extreme to me. One set of parents each got a Lap Band and then sent their child to this camp to lose weight. That really got me thinking. If your child is that overweight why not struggle through it with them and do what they have to do to lose weight rather than get a Lap Band? The mom said well his dad and I got a Lap Band and now we are successful in losing weight and that makes our child feel even worse about his own weight. So what are your thoughts? Have you seen this show? Too Fat for Fifteen: Fighting Back - mystyle.com Edited to add: According to the site it's $26,000 for 4 months!! -

Wow! This weeks episode was quiet an eye opener. Tanisha's mom is overweight and doesn't even want to try and eat healthy b/c she says healthy food just tastes bad. She doesn't even cook. She likes living on take out. And then Emily. Her family is sending her back for summer camp and they think she'll have so much fun. Her dad is overweight also and Emily's comment was If It's so much fun why don't they (her parents) go with me? She has a good point there. I don't see dad going to a weight loss camp. -

Help!!! my legs is numb
spoiltmom replied to Bander92210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a pinched nerve in my low back. It causes numbness in one of my legs and occasionally a deep burning, searing pain in my leg. It sucks but I'm hoping it will get better with treatment and weight loss. -
Bread, Rice & pasta?
spoiltmom replied to quilterlu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc says it's okay in moderation. I just had whole wheat spaghetti for supper tonight but only one 2 oz portion with meat and sauce. -
Does it really make you feel full?
spoiltmom replied to BobBigBoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me I don't miss the food at all. I'm actually glad that I can't eat it all. I don't feel ruled by food now like I did pre band. I really feel free from food completely:) -
How much pain did this cause you?
spoiltmom replied to BobBigBoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only pain I had was the gas pains and they weren't bad. I never even took any of my Lortab. I didn't need it. -

No it makes you feel full. I eat a cup of food and I feel full and can't eat anymore. I'm amazed at how well it works! -
Help!!! my legs is numb
spoiltmom replied to Bander92210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may just be going to sleep. That can be caused from sitting in one spot for too long or even from a pinched nerve in the back. -

pcos do you have it?
spoiltmom replied to lovemysgt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my Lap Band placed on August 6th and my hysterectomy was done September 2nd. The only concern was they wanted my band UNFILLED before surgery and my Lap Band surgeon wanted me on Phenergan 24/7 for the first few days to prevent any post surgical vomiting. I was able to have a vaginal hysterectomy and it was EASY. They had planned to do a Robotic assisted surgery which would have been 5 small incisions just like the band but they decided to do it vaginally instead. I feel better than I have in years. No more cramps and no more bleeding. I love it!! edited to add:if you have any more questions feel free to PM me. I don't mind! -

spoiltmom replied to lovemysgt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you don't want or can't have kids then I recommend seeing your Gyn about a hysterectomy. I had uterine ablation in May and for me it didn't work so a few weeks ago I had a hysterectomy. I feel AWESOME now! -
