  1. I just went for my 4 week post-op visit and my doctor gave me the go-ahead to a regular diet. But, he wants me to have 80 g of Protein a day, 900 calories, in 3 small meals. Any tips on how I can achieve this? Some days I think I can just have some Isopure in between when I'm drinking, but I don't like it enough to do it everyday. When I write down what I eat, I usually average 55-65 g protein a day and 700-800 calories. But I am hungry between meals. I think if I can find some more protein-rich meals and get up to that 80 g, I won't be as hungry between meals. Can anyone help me out? (no fill for another 4 weeks - I have nothing in my band right now).

    Puree Question...Eggs

I put hard boiled eggs in a food processor and then added some mayo and mustard, salt and pepper. It turned out very yummy, especially when you can have it on toast! Sorry I don't remember the proportions, but I didn't add extra liquid and thought it was smooth enough.

    Geting Rid of OLD JEANS

Just a suggestion - have you tried going to Goodwill as you lose weight for the intermittent sizes you will be? Maybe not for intimates such as a bra but they do have other nice clothes, sometimes you even can luck out and they still have the tags on them.

    1st fill question???

Congratulations on your weight loss! Question: Do you know if your doctor put any saline in your band when you had your procedure? I guess it's possible that if so, you could be at your sweet spot right now. However, from what I've read, as you continue to lose weight, the fat pad around your stomach will shrink as well and therefore the band will feel looser, and then you will need a fill. Also, at what point in your post-op diet are you at? I have moved on to soft foods (after mushies). At this point, I am only supposed to have 3 small meals a day (no snacks!) and I often get hungry between meals (I'm 3.5 weeks post-op so just about the same as you). If your doctor said it was ok for you to snack at this point, then great. But my doctor said no snacking at this stage. So, I think if you didn't snack, you would probably be hungry between meals and then it's probably time for a fill. Maybe you should call your doctor and ask for his opinion...maybe if everything is going well, why mess with perfection right?
  5. I had both of these done. From reading others' stories, my recovery has not taken any longer than any one else. I was on clear liquids for 1 day, full liquids for a week, and then mushies for a week and then on to soft. Of course everyone is different so make sure to follow your own doctor's post-op instructions.

    Measurments?

You measure by volume, not by weight. So, you would use a 1 cup measuring cup and not a scale. Hope this helps!
  7. Well, I have a pureed food phase and then a soft phase...not sure which one would match up with what you are calling mushy, but here is what I'm currently on. In this phase I'm supposed to have 6 small meals a day, all less than 1 cup per (the exception is the Protein shake). Sample pureed day: Breakfast: 1 cup Protein shake OR 6 oz yogurt OR 1/2 cup cream of wheat Cereal made with skim milk and 1/2 scoop of unjury Protein powder mixed in Morning snack: 1/2 cup high protein pudding OR 1/2 cup cottage cheese OR 1/2 cup applesauce Lunch: 3/4 cup cottage cheese OR 1/2 cup high protein mashed potatoes Snack: 1/2 cup protein shake Dinner: 1/4 cup pureed meat and 1/2 cup mashed potatoes OR 3/4 cup cream Soup (I add protein powder to it) OR Any of the above Snack: 1/2 cup high protein Jello OR any of the above I have made two 'real' meals since being on this phase, which were both quite yummy and can easily fit in your diet given you eat less than a cup of either for your meal: I made loaded potato soup. I just pureed my serving but all the yummy flavor was there - and I used low fat ingredients where I could. Also mixed in some protein powder. Also I made shepard's pie which was basically lean ground turkey, creamed corn, and mashed potatoes on top. If you are feeling hungry between meals make sure you are getting your protein, and make sure not every meal is full of carbs. If I have carbs, I try to have them in only one meal (like the potatoes). I also drink some Isopure because that has a good amount of protein in it. Good luck!
  8. Next week I will be able to start mushy foods. My mom (who does not know about my surgery) will be visiting a couple of days. I would like a couple of mushy meal suggestions that I could make that would not raise suspicion in her as I am not ready to talk to her about it. Does any one have any? Also, she may go out to eat for one meal so if any one has suggestions on what I could have outside of the house, that would be great too. I also have my two little boys to feed too, so it can't be anything too exotic. I suspect that if I just make something 'typical', and then put it in the blender, it will raise suspicion. Thanks very much!

    questions for post surgery

    1. If your surgery is done laproscopically, they use gas to inflate your belly so they can see better with the cameras. They try to get the gas out, but they can't get all of it. After surgery, it travels upwards and normally gets stuck in your shoulders. A heating pad and gas-x strips help alleviate the discomfort. 2. All the incisions are made in your belly. For me, it was uncomfortable to lay in any position except on my back. The first night I tried to lay on my side, and it ended up causing one of my incisions to bleed a little. I learned my lesson after that! 3. Not from Massacusetts..sorry 4. The pain is not bad after surgery. I felt as though having my first child was more painful (even with an epidural - when that wears off-- oh boy) and also when I threw out my back that was more painful then this surgery. The doctor prescribed some tylenol with codeine but I haven't had to take it. But everyone is different when it comes to how they react to surgery. 5. I will be one week post-op tomorrow and if I worked outside the home I would feel comfortable returning to a desk job tomorrow. If your job is a lot more strenuous (lots of movement, bending, lifting) you may have to take some more time. Hope this helps!
  10. Hello all - My surgery is this coming Monday. I started the all liquid diet on the 28th. The first week went great - I lost 9 lbs. Since then, however, I have only lost 1/2 lb since Monday. I'm worried about it because my surgeon says he won't do the surgery if you haven't lost any weight between your pre-op appointment (which for me was this past Monday) and the morning of surgery. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this what I have to look forward to the rest of my life, a great start and then, nothing? Thanks
  11. I have the usual chicken broth (it was on sale, so I got lots) and juice, crystal light, sobe lifewater 0 cal for when I am sick of just plain Water. My doctor also told me to get some Isopure, which is a juice drink that has 40 g of Protein in it. You can get it at GNC. I also ordered some unflavored unjury Protein powder to mix in any of the above. Most protein powders I have found are chocolate and I'm so sick of chocolate Protein shakes after this 2 week liquid diet. I tried a little bit of the powder in some broth and it didn't alter the taste, so it's a good way to get your protein. Looking forward to adding to some mashed potatoes. I will be so glad when I am past just liquids. You definitely miss the "chew factor". Only 5 more days!

    Dr. Paul Stanish - Sleeve??

I do not think Dr. Stanish performs the sleeve, only gastric bypass and lap-band.
  13. Hi there I am also getting banded on the 11th. You are lucky you have no pre-op diet - I am on day 8 of an all-liquid, no sugar diet and it is no fun :smile2: On the upside, though I've lost 9 lbs! Keep in touch and good luck
