  1. It was Breakfast and orange juice sounded good at the time. It really does hurt when it comes out of your nose. lol
  2. That just sounds funny. "No Suzy, you are not allowed to cough or sneeze!" Seriously though, how do you use your abdominal muscles to sneeze... sneezes are usually quick and unexpected?
  3. For some reason, my weight doesn't go up. I do feel fat, bloated, and moody. Luckily, my weight isn't affected. You will lose those 3 pounds though!
  4. The first time I got stuck, I drank orange juice and the orange juice ended up coming out of my nose at an insane high velocity. It scared the crap outta me! Yesterday, I got stuck in front of a coworker because I was trying to eat a muffin. Sometimes you either have to just breathe and let it pass or try to bring it back up. It really isn't fun, but I'd rather have these little inconveniences than be fat for the rest of my life (that's a good thing to say to someone when they ask "do you throw up all the time?")
  5. Earlier this month, I had a horrible cold. I was coughing and coughing and I seriously couldn't stop even if I wanted to. I'm fine though. No slip. My doctor says I'm going to be alright. :yesnod:

Have Bowel Questions for the Banded

I think fiber would make you looser... I've been constipated lately... probably from the Iron pills I'm taking. Anyway, I'm not really sure why you have loose bowel movements. Do you think you have diarrhea? Maybe you have a lactose intolerance?
  7. You know, if carbs had feelings, "low carb people" would really depress them. CARBS ARE GOOD! They give you energy. It's up to you to choose the right ones i.e. complex carbs vs. simple carbs. Get your carbs from fresh fruits and veggies and not from cakes, cookies, etc. YOU CAN EAT CARBS! Just choose the complex ones.

    has anyone here...

Couldn't your band slip over time though?

    Sara Rue is a LIAR

There is a lady in my support group that has never had a fill. She's doing pretty well. How do you know Sara Rue is a liar? You know, there are people that CAN lose 55 pounds without surgery... (and keep it off, too)

    Oatmeal

Does anyone eat oatmeal? I never eat it and the times that I have, I've hated it. However, it's a good carb. Is it considered a slider food? If so, how do you make it not be a slider food?
  11. Running for 30 minutes straight IS awesome! I've just started running. I do a mile and then I stop. lol MY NSV is running a mile in 13:02.

    Huge Milestone!!!

WOW! That's awesome. Seriously. Keep up the good work!
  13. I had a craving for one yesterday. I probably wouldn't eat the bread. I can eat bread though, but it would be a waste. It would just fill me up quickly.

    Knife, Fork, Band.

Is there an ISBN number for that? $39 is nothing compared to what I paid (actually, what I'm STILL paying) for my surgery.

    weight watchers

My doctor also said to not count calories, but to do this plan in a book called Eating for Life by Bill Phillips. I'm sorry, but that book confuses me and I read it from cover to cover. I have to count calories. It's easy. I use my bodybugg and all it comes down to is basic math. Sorry doctor! (I don't tell him I'm counting calories though.)

Had fill Tues.. feeling bit tight?

You will feel tight after a fill - probably up until a week or more. Then it will loosen up a bit. But you should just call and tell them your problem. Hopefully they will suggest something. Does your doctor make you drink Water before you leave? Whenever I get a fill, my doctor makes me chug a cup of water so he knows it went down ok.

    Getting stuck hurts!!!

Yes. Getting stuck hurts. If it's really bad, I can feel it in my back. Sometimes I just have to give up and walk away from the food.

pain in port area after running....

I've had that happen before. It feels like a cramp or bad gas. Is that what you felt?
  19. I'm not sure if I understand you, but are you saying that losing 8 pounds in 2 weeks is bad?
  20. I agree with you! For about a month, I went into denial. lol I ate around my band and ate the wrong foods. I blamed everything else, but myself. I only lost 4 pounds in a month, and my doctor was not happy. He lectured me, and now I'm back on the wagon most of the time. lol :smile2:
  21. After the first few intense months, how much daily work is it for you to live happily with your band? How much time do you have to spend obsessing about, avoiding, or tallying up food? I don't really obsess. I usually try to make a plan as to what I'm going to eat. It's really easy to stick to that plan when I'm working. It gets harder on days off. I live with my parents and they don't choose a healthy lifestyle so I am surrounded by fats, carbs, twinkies, etc. In that aspect, it is very hard to avoid those things. Is it on your mind all the time, a whole new hobby, or can you live like a "normal person" who just eats only small amounts of lean protein and veggies? I do think losing weight is on my mind all the time. I weigh in every week with my personal trainer so I have to show him and myself that I'm actually putting the work in. Also, don't forget your fruits! (Not including exercise.) Exercise is insanely important! Do you find that, if you slack off, your band gives you a nice slap upside the head? If I eat too much, I get uncomfortable and I stay that way for hours. Do you get physical feedback if you eat the wrong things or do something unhealthy? It depends. You can eat a twinkie, and the band won't reject it. It doesn't know the difference between a cookie and an apple. I get a bad mental feeling when I eat something bad (I also got that feeling before being banded). Some things I do get stuck on, which are apples (ha!), peaches (haha!), some bread, and sometimes eggs as a few examples. Is it less mental work than doing a strict diet? It's more mental work. You have to be 100% committed to this. This is IT. You've tried so many diets before that have failed, so you cannot let yourself fail again! WLS is serious. You have to be on your game. You have to eat right and you have to exercise. Does it feel more like normal (but adjusted) life? My "normal" (or past life) included not exercising, eating McDonald's, and just not caring. My life has done a 180. I eat better than most people I know. I exercise more than most people I know. So, this doesn't feel normal for me. It will one day. Did I help or you scare you? lol :smile2:
  22. Just to be clear: throwing up has nothing to do with losing weight. There have been times when I would go see my doctor and not have a fill.
  23. I still live with my parents. My mom buys ice cream, cupcakes, cookies, etc. She makes unhealthy meals. It IS hard being banded and living in my house. She doesn't put a gun to my head and say "eat this or I'll shoot!" but it doesn't make a lifestyle change any easier... you know?
  24. Erik Chopin, season 3 winner, gained a lot of his weight back. They help them take the weight off, but don't teach them HOW to keep it off. 'Biggest Loser' Champ Gains Back 122 Lbs | PopEater.com
