    lap band prejudice

To be honest, the most negative remarks that I receive are from those who are already overweight. I get a lot of praise and good feedback from those who are skinny or who do not have a weight problem. However, for some reason many of those who I have encountered that had something negative to say where from overweight individuals. I've been told that I'm losing weight too fast. That I have saggy skin. That "they don't need surgery to lose weight." It just goes on and on. Yet, it's almost funny. I laugh at these people. It's like they want to justify their fatness or something. They want to explain to me why they are fat and not losing weight. However, I don't care. I don't even start these conversations. Somehow these people need to justify something and bring these conversations up. The best thing to do is ignore them. You're doing this for yourself and no one else. Each time someone asks you "how much have you lost" tell them and make a big deal about it. That's what I do. You're going to be looking hot, rockin' out in a mini skirt and stilettos while they sit on their asses complaining. THIS IS A GOOD THING!

I don't have a problem with it, but I think everyone is different.

    Excess Skin

I'm 22. My highest weight was 327, and now I'm 241. I have notice some excess skin, mostly around in inner thighs. I guess you just have to wait and see what happens, you know?

Loud noises but NOT a newbie!

It probably could just be air. My stomach made the biggest noise today. It was so loud that I actually said "Whoa!" out loud. lol

    Medicare and lapband!? HELP

Medicare is for older people. Since you're 21, I'll assume you mean medicaid. The coverage for it depends on the state. For example, North Carolina's medicaid no longer covers bariatric surgery.
  8. I work out with a trainer. Some days are crazy hard, while other days I can handle it. It's so worth it though. I think I am losing weight faster with the training.

    2nd opinion

Ooooh. Ok. lol My band and I make a good team. People do need to do their research. I research everything, even the antibiotic I was on when I had a URI and the color of my snot that I couldn't stop blowing out of my nose! (A little TMI?! lol) I just feel if someone wanted a quick fix, they should have went with the bypass... that's just me though.

    2nd opinion

I'm not sure if that was a stab at me or her. Oooh well. I still have last 76 pounds.
  11. You look nice! Congrats!

    2nd opinion

I was banded in April also. I've already lost 76 pounds. The band isn't magic. I've had to work my butt off to lose those 76 pounds. I've had to change my eating and activity habits. I exercise 3-4 times a week, and around 1-2 hours each time. I also got a personal trainer. I've also gotten the Bodybugg to help me along the way. The band isn't the thing that is losing my weight for me. The band is there to control my eating. I am the one doing the work. So maybe you need to evaluate your eating and activity habits, and possible have an attitude change? Because it does work. It's just up to the user to do the work.
  13. I don't like this. 1. The whole purpose of the band is to change your eating habits. 2. The amount of Fluid in your band has nothing to do with how much weight you will lose. 3. You can get your band as tight as possible and still have crappy eating habits and still gain weight. 4. Getting a fill would be futile.
  14. Ugh! I did the same thing! I'm kicking myself for it now. I've been searching on Craigslist and eBay for clothes. I'm also asking around. With my last pay check, I set aside $50 to buy some new clothes. Just get a little bit here and there. Also, make sure you buy a size smaller. They may be tight, but not for long! :wink2:

    Itchy incisions

I didn't have glue. I had steri strips and I remember them itching like hell! If you are worried, just give you doctor's office a call. Just tell them what's happening and ask for advice. I do it all the time. :wink2:

Hello Everyone. I hate mind games.

Good question. I have thought about this too. Why can't I have done this in the first place? I think it's motivation. For me, I paid money to get this surgery done so I HAVE to make this work. The Lap Band is a tool. The surgery gets the ball moving. The ball is at the top of a hill... a probably very big hill. The surgery pushes the ball toward the bottom a little bit. As you lose weight, the ball moves closer to the bottom of the hill. There might be a few bumps and rocks on the hill, but you can easily adjust and keep it rolling. Do you kind of see what I mean? My Lap Band isn't losing the weight for me. It's helping me. I have to work with it because I am the human and it is the plastic tool. Kind of like having a hammer. The hammer isn't going to do anything until the human picks it up. Do you see what I mean? I was on a pre-op diet for 2 weeks. In fact, it was during Easter. When I think about it, I kind of laugh. I remember craving pickles and watching the food Network 24/7. Good luck!

    Is it all worth it???

It is worth it! I wish I had done is sooner. I don't miss my past life. I don't miss spending money that I didn't have at McDonald's. I don't miss being over 300 pounds. It was sooooo worth it! What I don't understand is why so many people are against weight loss surgery. :-/
  19. Most people don't feel restriction with their very first fill...

    Unflavored Protein Powder

Unflavor has a flavor. It's called NASTY! Ugh. I would go with vanilla. You can mix that with anything. Seriously. Go with vanilla.

    Smart One

I saw them at Target today. However, I can see myself getting stuck on the potatoes and sausage. :huh2: However, this will be good for those who haven't had many fills.

Eating is becoming a pain in the arse!!!

It is very frustrating. I can't really eat breakfast. My band is so tight in the morning that I have a hard time keeping eggs down. I'm starting to just do protein shakes. They give you a lot nutrients so your body won't think it's starving.

    birth control

I have the NuvaRing also. My doctor never told me to stop using it. In fact, I had it in during the surgery. I guess each doctor is different. If that what he says, then, I guess, do it.

    Cheeseburgers

Thinking about eating bread makes me sick. It's like I have the phantom stuck feeling my throat. Just walking past the bread aisle in the store gives me that feeling. The smell and the taste of a cheeseburger is wonderful; however, swallowing it is a different story. :huh2:
