    Insurance timeframe

I have Empire Blue and it took a little over a week. I was informed before my surgeon's office.

    post op Dr appointment

My post-op appointment was scheduled before my surgery. It was about 5 days after my surgery.

    ? for ladies

I had mine a week and a half before my surgery, and then a couple of days after, it came back. I don't know why.
  4. Hey Jon! I'm Amanda from Raleigh! This is a great place to get advice and get answers to questions. Good luck with your surgery!

    What to expect?!?!?!

My doctor mostly talked about possible, but rare complications with the sugery and with the band. Then they gave me my two week Optifast shakes. That was pretty much it.
  6. Like everyone else said, it is not easy. What got me though the two weeks was drinking a lot of water. Water, water, water. Crystal Light and even the off brands got me though the two weeks. Also, chewing gum! I had something to focus in my mouth. Another thing was crushed ice. Honestly, after a week, I really didn't care much about food. I was supposed to be drinking 5 shakes a day. Sometimes I would only have 2 or three. I wouldn't recommend that though. Also, I did some spring cleaning while on the diet, and that helped.
  7. I'm on the Nuvaring also, but I kept mine in this whole time. My doctor knows every medicine I take. I don't know. So many doctors are different.
  8. I don't think you're supposed to feel your port. I'm sure your doctor knows where it is at.
  9. Hey Andrea! I'm Amanda and I'm from Raleigh also. I was banded by Dr. Bovard on April 7th. I'm still sore also. I think it's going to be a while before we feel 100% better. Who was your doctor?
  10. It wasn't too bad until I started to feel like I got hit by a bus. I had my surgery Wednesday, and I'm feeling pretty good today. The worse thing was getting in and out of bed, bending down, and trying to sit on the potty. Many people are saying that their gas pains are the worse, but mine really aren't that bad. They come and go and they are annoying. The only thing that really hurts is the biggest incision that my doctor made. Sometimes it feels like ripping or tearing inside.
  11. I was banded on Wedneday. The only came nauseated when I took my liquid hydrocodone on an empty stomach. I am supposed to take 5-10 ml as needed. I was taking close to 10 ml without drinking anything and that made me nauseated. I hope he feels better soon!
  12. I just had my surgery yesterday. I was wondering if anyone has experienced a sharp pain where one of the incisions is at? Like he used a big instrument or something. It hurts soooooo bad. I can't sleep in my bed, bend over, or hardly sit. Hyrdocodone isn't working either! Anyone else have this problem?
  13. I agree! It kind of annoys me because I'm just starting this journey and never in my life have I lost 30, 40, 50, etc pounds. Pre-op I've lost almost 20 pounds and I'm happy with that! I wish people would realize that they probably could not do this on their own and be thankful for what they have. You see people on the TLC channel that are 1000 pounds and can't seem to even lose a pound. BE HAPPY!!!!!
  14. Yay! It wasn't bad, but geez I hurt! I only hurt in this one spot/hole. I guess it is the one that he used to do a lot of work with... IDK. It just hurrrrts. I finally got my pain meds. They haven't kicked in yet. I have had 2 oz of chicken broth and I am so full and bloated. So, I took a gas-x. That hasn't kicked in yet. My throat hurts from the breathing tube. I know this pain won't last forever - just a very very annoying inconvenience. So far, I'm happy However I don't know how I will get in bed tonight. I tried a couple of times and it so bad to do it. So, I got on the couch and sat and took a nap that way. Anyway, for those who are questioning their decision about getting the lap band: don't. This is the first day of the rest of my life. I doubted my decision, but now I am happy with what the future could bring!

    medifast...

I am using Optifast - 5 shakes a day and as much water as you want. That's it. I've lost a lot of weight, and hopefully my liver has shrinked. I'm not happy about this diet, but I'm no longer hungry anymore and I haven't seen the inside of my fridge in a while, lol. If it worked for you then try it.
  16. Probably. I like the magic bullet because it is small and easy to clean.
  17. Matilda, that's great and you got lucky! People in my area are selling them over the actual retail price. The one at BB&B is the cheapest I've seen (with the coupon). I even looked at ebay, amazon, overstock.com, Target, Walmart, etc. Overstock.com didn't even have them. The sellers on ebay are crazy and their shipping is through the roof. So, BB&B is the best price I've seen so far for new magic bullets.

    I'm going to need...

Do plastic surgeon's have payment plans or do they expect all of the money up front? Also, I think more and more insurances are covering plastic surgery, but I think it has to be medically necessary.
  19. I'm on day 10 of 14. I've found it easier. I'm on the 800 calorie Optifast diet. It is hard, but water is my best friend. Also chewing gum - it gets my mind off of food. Good luck with the rest of your diet!
  20. Right now I'm doing a total liquid diet with Optifast with only 5 shakes a day. I have no pity for those who get to eat food!!! lol Water is and will be your best friend. Water does fill me up. Also, Crystal Light is great for water. Make sure you get a ton of water! Trust me.
  21. You were trying to look out for her. Plus french fries from McDonald's isn't included in a pre-op diet. I used to be obsessed with McDonald's. Now I think it's one of many reasons why Americans are so fat.
  22. Manda87

    I caved....

I bowl of ice cream won't kill ya... maybe a whole gallon, lol. I used to eat crap loads of McDonald's when I got stressed out. You'll be alright.
  23. Why didn't your doctor just wait to schedule the surgery AFTER your approval? That doesn't make sense to me.
  24. Manda87

    First Fill Horror!!

"Only lost 20 pounds." Why does so many people act like that's a bad thing? Are you eating healthy and exercising? A 20 pound loss is better than a 20 pounds gain. Be thankful!!!
