I was eating mashed potatoes, and I was getting full. All of the sudden I heard, but most likely felt a pop. This makes me nervous. Could I have slipped my band or have a stitch come out?

OK now what do I do with all these clothes?
Manda87 replied to patsal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ebay, Craigslist, yardsale, Goodwill, clothing exchange. -
I'd rather have 5 scars than all of this excess weight. Honestly, I wouldn't mind losing a finger if that meant I would lose 160 pounds.

Wow. It's obvious that every doctor is different. Some doctors say 4 weeks, 6 months, or never. I suggest follow doctors orders or ask them if you aren't sure.

Best Skin firming lotion/cream...ANYONE?
Manda87 replied to pureimpurefection's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the above poster. I've heard that if you have stretch marks, your skin is already ruined. -

They sell them on ebay with all kinds of pretty colors and styles. -

You don't plan on having accidents. I should follow that with a "DUH," but I won't. Luckly, I have a bunch of family members that know my medical history, and there is a slim chance of a medical person not being able to contact any of them. -
Poll: Medical ID Bracelet

I really don't see a point of getting one. Unless you're in some kind of accident... My surgeon told me to tell doctors to not put a stomach tube in my belly. But honestly, if it were life vs. death, it would be a different story. -
Thanks everyone. I do feel better. I have a lot of things going on in my life, and change is really hard to deal with on top of everything being stressful. No matter how prepared you are for this surgery, there are things that you will always be unprepared for... like emotions.

I'm doing pretty good. The first 3-5 days are the hardest. The first 72 hours is the worse. The port incision hurts the worse. It feels the wound is ripping and tearing on the inside. It still feels like that when I move the wrong way. I was not prepared for the pain. I don't have any kids, so this is by far the worse pain that I have ever been in. Pain medicine will be your friend. I decided to take a month off of work. I have a pretty hard job and I knew I would not better within a couple of weeks. However, if I had a desk job, I probably would have gone back in a week. Good luck to ya! -

Hi, I'm Amanda and I'm 22. I was just banded April 7th. I wish I had done it earlier. My insurance covered a good bit of it, but my doctor was out of network, so I had to pay more. Thank God for those monthly payment plans. Good luck! -
I suggest you check out a book called Eating For Life by Bill Phillips. I don't think the Lap Band should be all about counting calories. We've done that before with our previous failed diets. In the book, it is all about eating the right foods, the right amounts, the right combos, and the at the right times. It's about a great combination of Protein, carbohydrates (many people think they are bad, but we need them! They are the first and foremost a source of immediate engery!), essential fats (omega-6 fatty acid and omega-3 fatty acid are good for you!), Vitamins and minerals, and last but not least, Water. I really suggest you read this book. You can get it on half.com, ebay.com, or amazon.com for half the price. I'm seriously not going to spend the rest of my counting stupid calories. Trust me. (My surgeon strongly recommends this book, and I can see why.)

HELP!Antidepressants,do I have to stop pre-op?
Manda87 replied to noosagirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took my meds the day before the surgery, but I skipped a couple of days after my surgery - my choice. I also have the Nuvaring, which is a type of birth control. I even had that in while I had surgery. -
2 days post op pain...

I was using liquid tylenol for adults. I thought it really helped. They have a vanilla and cherry flavor. I like the cherry though. -
Post-Op and Freaking Out A Bit
Manda87 replied to Healthy4Life!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been banded a little over a week. I'm having the same issues. I'm scared of my band, lol. I'm scared I'm going to break it. I'm scared it's so fragile. I have issues, I swear! I wish I had my own x-ray machine so I can keep checking it to make sure it's ok. I'm having a hard time with the Protein too. I can't find a shake that I like. Hopefully, when we start eating a normal diet things will get better! -
Day 4 of pre-op liquid diet+artificial sweetener allergies
Manda87 replied to Cai's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It will be over before you know it! I thought it was never going end. But guess what? After the end of that diet you'll have a whole new start with the band! Look toward the future! -
My BMI was 52, and my doctor was very happy that I decided to do the Lap Band. So, it can be done with those who have a high BMI.

You can also become chemically dependent upon laxatives to have a bowel movement. Regular use of stimulant laxatives will result in an eventual loss of bowel tone, which can in turn result in Irritated Bowel Syndrome, chronic constipation, and possibly complete bowel incontinence.

Mental Clarity with Post-Op Diet?
Manda87 replied to jenpen2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You were just banded on Monday and already on mushies? Wow. -
They ask questions about your health, about your family, and if you have been hositalized for anything mental. It was really easy. Don't worry about it. Even if you have a mental illness, they won't put that against you.

being too overweight to feel good but not overweight enough for surgery
Manda87 replied to SUSANG0264's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you should try going to a nutritionist. Even though I have only been banded for a week, I really have to watch what I eat. I can just as easily eat from a tub of frosting or go get a sensible mound of mashed potatoes. I used to eat frosting at of the tub, lol and I could still do it if I choose, but I choose the mashed potatoes. For me, it still is a hard choice. Once you're banded, you don't get good eating habits already programed into your brain. It still takes a lot of work... -
My doctor suggested 4 weeks without soda. The reason why soda is because the carbonation may not agree with you, and also because regular soda is just empty calories. Also, finally some say that artificial sweeteners are bad for you.

This board doesn't look too active. Anyway, I'm Amanda and 22 years old. I just got banded yesterday by Dr. Scott Bovard. I just thought I would say "Hi!" and see if anyone wanted to talk. :smile2:

No one has any ideas as to what it could be?

I have insurance also, but my doctor is out of network. I'm having to pay about $2700 - not including all of the pre-op bils.
