    Fabulous February Post-Op's

    I'm overwhelmed by their response

I'm pretty open with most people about my weight struggles. When I got my band I wasn't so open. Within 2 or 3 months pretty much the entire community knew. (Funny story, one of my sweetest elderly gentlemen came in one day and was complementing me on how great I look and how proud of me he was for getting the surgery....I asked him how on earth he knew and he said he'd been down at one of the car dealerships here in town talking about me with another older gent who is also one of my patients, they were worried cuz I'd lost so much weight when a third patient who was also a close personal friend of my nurse caught the conversation and told them not to worry, that I'd had a lap-band...and they say women gossip!!!!). Anyway, as I lost weight and patients started to hear about it I got to where I'd tell em almost anything, the good and the bad. As life with a band collapsed I chose to stay open with them. My co-workers have been in on all of it from the beginning and have been amazing. I couldn't ask for more support. What has really cracked me up is my patients though. As the weeks have passed and the comments have started I have started telling them what I've had done. I've had a few tell me horror stories and a couple give me the 'you weren't big enough to do that' speech, but the vast majority have been nothing short of fabulous. Gotta love small town life!!! Fabulous February Post-Op's

I had a moment this morning....I always knew my tomach, thighs, and noobs were screwed and destined to flap in the breeze. I thought my arms were gonna be okay. I was blow drying my hair with my skivvies on (bra and panties) and realized I actually have a bit of muscle in my upper arms!!! Then realized, oh shit, there's some major flapping going on underneath....craptastic!!! I'm going to be a freaking shar pei, fabulous. To log, or not to log

Love that you're trying not to obsess. It worries me a bit how obsessive some people become post RNY and band. I am using MFP. You'll notice a day is occasionally skipped, like when I'm camping or something. Won't kill me I miss a day or meal here or there but I have discovered I tend to over guess my protein and MFP keeps me honest with myself. But again, I'm trying not to obsess about it and be crazy.....
  5. We ran through Wendy's the other night to pick up dinner after soccer practice. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and baked potato (was going to take the bun off), got around to the window and the told me they were out of baked potatoes, I could have salad or fries. I'm 6 weeks post-op, I can't have salad for 2 more weeks and I'm just not gonna have fries. Rather then say cancel my order I went in to a big gastric bypass speech.....I am such an idiot HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 225.8
  6. Agreed! There's a difference between abusing them and letting them help and be responsible for stuff.....man I used the no lifting >10 pounds for six weeks rule the entire 6 weeks when my son was around HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 225.8
  7. I only have 1, he's almost9 and loves being my assistant. He really took it all in stride and was a huge help toting laundry and stuff. He's also my #1 cheerleader and every few days has to say something like 'you really look pretty mommy, you must have lost a lot more weight'. He's been a great mommy sitter HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 225.8

    What ya eating tonight?

I am apparently extremely lucky??? If I take small bites and eat slow I haven't found anything that really bothers me going down! (And chew well of course). A lot of times the first bite or two feels funny and if a wait a couple minutes it's all okay, almost like it has to get stretched out. Go slow and keep trying!!!
  11. The order of these posts made me laugh....right after how do I keep my toddler off me came 'we caged em'

    Reroutng of intestines

I guess for me it's rearrange the plumbing and accept those risks or leave it as it was and deal with morbid obesity, high blood pressure, and likely diabetes, increased risk of MI, CVA, cancer, and premature death.... Yes there are risks associated with RNY....the risks associated with obesity are far worse (as are the odds).

Anybody else with low vitamin D?

I was diagnosed with vitamin d def and B12 deficiency before my first lap band surgery 3 1/2 years ago. Get my B12 shot once a month and take my D every day....won't have a post RNY level for about 6 weeks so well see if my dose is doing okay or not!

    Fabulous February Post-Op's

I'm doing soft fruits (so far cantaloupe=HEAVEN, and canned peaches, this weekends mission is fresh peaches) I'm supposed to avoid peels and membranes...makes sense since those are fibrous And more likely to wedge somewhere i don't want em. I'm also just starting cooked veggies, again supposed to avoid raw/fibrous stuff.... My surgeon is a jerk, but I agree with his logic on foods (most foods anyway). In a couple weeks I'll be cleared to eat anything. His diet after 8 weeks is essentially all foods but avoid foods high in sugars and fats (calorie dense foods with little nutritional value), otherwise he wants us to have a healthy well balanced diet with Protein as the focus but carbs with each meal....which really, long term, I think is the only practical diet plan. Fabulous February Post-Op's

Okay so I feel good, really really good. My emotions seem to be back to semi-normal (I started my period today and haven't cried in over a week. Success, I think yes!). I get a slight ache in my abdomen once in a while...the palpitations and heart rate going sky high have evened out....I am good!!! And then every once in a while get so queasy I think I'm gonna die! I walked into a store last week while it was raining, there were a bunch of smokers huddled by the door, the smell hit me and I was queasy for 4 or 5 hours, sometimes if I'm hungry I get queasy, sometimes if I eat I get queasy.... I am thankful this has gone so well so far but I am SO over queasy!!!!! HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 225.8
