  1. Nope, piece of cake to eat with RNY. I am a dumper so I have to watch carbs but otherwise I can eat anything. Celery, apples, all the yummy stuff that made me feel like I was gonna die with my band. I'm a slow eater and chew well so I've never had a 'stuck' episode for sliming with the RNY....it's heaven!!!
  2. I think after the drastic weight loss and ups and downs with the band, that my body has learned how to run off very little fuel. Granted, I still lose, but yes, compared to my peers who had virgin surgery at the same time, my loss is slower. Compared to what I lost after getting banded, my loss is slower (but much less miserable)

    What ya eating tonight?

. We do greens for money, but same theory (actually I hate greens so I do spinach). Absolutely sure it doesn't work but hey, it's tradition

    Open Or Laparoscopic ?

I find this odd and it makes me uncomfortable....if there's less risk with open why are so many surgeries changing to laparoscopic these days? I can see it being easier for him, just don't understand them saying less risk. I know recovery is significantly longer with open but that's where my knowledge ends. Good luck. I hope you get done good answers to this.
  10. good for you!!!! Please know we're all here for ya and can't wait to watch you succeed.

    What ya eating tonight?

Black eyed peas, greens, ham...welcome to New Years in the south! Couldn't bring myself to make cornbread only to eat 2 bites and trash the rest.

    Vitamin D increase post surgery?

. It varies significantly from person to person, your doc will have to watch your levels to determine what works for you. I average 1000 units a day and that keeps me at a good level. Pre-RNY I took 50000 units a week to keep me at an appropriate level.

    What Is....

. I'm closing in on a year and I'm around a cup total per meal as well (sometimes 4 bites and I'm done, it's crazy). About 1/2 protein, a couple bites of starch, the rest veggies.

    Got the FLU, Help!

If you actually have the true flu they will not operate. Flu significantly increases your risk of pneumonia, surgery significantly increases your risk of pneumonia. It's not a safe combo. If you really have the flu you need to get on tamiflu ASAP and hopefully you'll be clear in a few days. Good luck!!!!
  16. I saw a patient today who is losing insurance through her husbands employer and her employer only offers catastrophic illness coverage. She has 2 major comorbidities that her insurance won't touch. Her deductible is $4000 and basically they only cover if she gets run over or has a stroke or heart attack or gets cancer. It's insane. Being middle class sucks sometimes.

    The Slow Losers Thread

from someone who absolutely is not used to hearing compliments, it's totally unnerving!!! I like it!!! I like it a lot but it's still awkward and I still don't really know how to reply, I just give a self conscious laugh and say thanks and keep rolling. Don't know that I'll ever get completely used to it.

Survive Gastric bypass pre op diet

You just have to suck it up and do it. There's no easy way. Make sure you're getting all the protein you're supposed to get. Keep something with you to drink all the time. If you get hungry drink something immediately (broth and hot tea worked best for my hunger pains). Savor every bite of the veggies, so many of us couldn't even have a bite! The first 4-5 days are miserable. You're exhausted, grumpy, headachy....but it does get better and in the end it is SO worth it! You can do this, trust in yourself.
  19. Welcome and congrats on being so close!!!!! It's going to be an amazing year for you!!

    Self-Pay Complications

If it's charges that were supposed to be covered by your payment then it is absolutely double dipping and wrong wrong wrong. If they're additional and legit charges I suppose it's a different story. Without more info I'm leaning towards it being a it skeevy.

    Any Band converters under........

slow loss is still loss...it's not a race. And though it may be slow I feel fabulous! Nothing gets stuck, there's no sliming or PBing....I feel like a normal human being, not deprived or miserable. It's absolutely fabulous!

    Any Band converters under........

i was unable to eat and barely able to sip fluids once I had a full slip....I think I'd had a slight slip for a while though....GERD like crazy and sometimes I could eat anything and other times I'd take 1 bite and be ill.
