    August 2013 surgeries

Might be easiest to start an August surgery dates threads and just invite everyone to post their dates there so you're not hunting them down. Or you can do it on this thread and just ask everyone to repost their date so you're not searching. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.6

    What ya eating tonight?

I find it impossible to cook for 1 RNY patient with a freaky stomach and a nine year old!!!! I end up throwing so much away. It's such a waste. I need a book on cooking for 1.5! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.6

    Not losing as fast

I'm like one of Pavlov's dogs....I kept trying sweets and getting sick until I developed an aversion....I know I can take 2-3 bites but more will make me feel like crap for hours so I don't do it....it was a hard learned lesson though HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.6

    JUST GOT THE CALL

The first week on the liquid diet/protein shakes I usually lose 6-7 pounds....very low sodium so I dump some Fluid but very low calorie and high Protein so I lose fat too. Good luck!! You can do this!!!

    What ya eating tonight?

Well, it's normal for us, but not normal for people who have a healthy relationship with food :/. Right after I had my lap band I had a pretty crappy event, came home ready to curl up with something yummy and realized I couldn't....and cried and cried and cried....I mourned losing my best friend for 2 solid weeks then I'd mourn again for months when something would pop up and stress me out. Eventually it does get better and I think I'm happier overall because of a healthier relationship with food. Keep your chin up! You did good HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.6

    Pre-op 7 day diet

It varies a lot! Mine was 14 days of 4-5 Protein shakes per day with sugar free/calorie free liquids (Water, crystal light, decaf tea or coffee, no sodas!), SF Popsicles, and SF Jello. However, you need some guidance from your program. You don't want to blow it 1 week before surgery!!!!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.6

    Cloud bread .... Yummy yummy

The original recipe I saw specified not to use low fat or fat free, I guess it just needs that extra in it! Where do you get Greek yogurt cream cheese???? I've never ears of that?!?!? HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.6

    Not sure what to do?

There's a revision board on here and at least 1 thread full of sleeve to RNY revisions. I was a band to RNY and I'll tell ya what I've told everyone else. After the misery I had with my band I wasn't having anything but RNY, the success rates are the highest and I wanted nothing but the best. I had HORRID reflux with my band and absolutely wouldn't risk having similar misery with a sleeve. Sorry it's been such a long road for you! Good luck!!!!

    Not losing as fast

My revision was supposed to be same day...then I woke up with no band and no RNY. SUCKED. My band had prolapsed so I had urgent removal and when he got in to take the evil thing out I had so much swelling and inflammation that he didn't feel it was safe to do the revision. Band out August 1, 2012, RNY Feb.11, 2013. I was at 5 months last week and hit 50 pounds last week. I seem to be slower then my other February counterparts but no complaints....it is steadily coming off (except for evil stalls) and I feel FABULOUS!!! I can eat darn near anything. I never get sick or have heartburn (Pasta and brown rice!!!! Real meat!!!) I do dump if I get something too high in carbs without Protein but, well, it's stuff I shouldn't be eating anyway so I guess it helps keep me honest Wish I'd done this long, long ago! Hope you love it as much as I do!!!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.6

    Not losing as fast

My doc told me to expect 2-4 pounds a week (I'm band to bypass too). I'm averaging 10 a month but started out much higher than you. Isn't if freaking fabulous to actually eat real food again???!!!!!!!!

    Two weeks post op...

Purée is just gross....gross gross gross. By trend I was back to mostly shakes cuz I was so sick of puréed crap. BUT IT DOES END!!!!! And then you can chew again!!!! First day on salad was HEAVEN!!!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.6

    Bypass or sleeve?

Just be warned, many many people do not dump, you can't really rely on that as an effective weight loss tool because there's a very good chance you won't be a dumper.

    Food getting "stuck"

I was constantly stuck, sliming, etc with my band...I've had 1 semi-sliming episode in 5 months with my RNY it was ice cream which used to do it with my band too.....so I think it's just me an ice cream. I have never been stuck with my RNY, I can eat plain chicken, beef, rice, bread, pasta....it all goes down without incident. Every once in a while I'll swallow sooner then I meant to and get a full sensation in my chest for 5-10 seconds but then it is gone....it's a whole different world!!!

    ensure?

Just be careful which one you use....some have 9-19 grams of Protein but 250+ calories and 40 grams of carbs! The higher protein are a bit better but still heavy on the carbs. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.6

    Clear Liquid Pre-Op Diet Suggestions

Most Protein drinks aren't clear liquid...GNC has Isopure but in my opinion it tastes like battery acid with a side of skunk spray. I made homemade chicken broth. When I thought I was starving I'd sip warm broth. Made it almost feel like real food. Almost! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 204.6

    Liquid Diet Help!

I did a shake for Breakfast lunch and dinner, if I got hungry (Ha! I was starving) I'd have an extra in the late morning and evening (the evening one was when I had the urge to snack usually). If you want to time it: breakfast 7:30, lunch-12:30, dinner 6:00-6:30. If I did a morning snack shake it was typically 10:30, If i did a night time shake it was usually 8:30 ish.
