What does 'clinical review required' mean?

Depends on insurance company policy. Typically, if it's not an emergency situation, they'll get you an answer in 2 weeks or so...my question is why don't they think your paperwork is good enough to get accepted??? If your been doing this for a year they should have tons of information. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 199

Why does Medicare make you wait?

Most insurances have some waiting period....I think there are multiple reasons. Some hope you'll give up and they won't have to ay for surgery. Some truly want to make sure you are educated on what you are about to do so you'll have the best possible outcome. From a medical standpoint, I can say a lot of people approach this with little to no knowledge about the surgery or post-op lifestyle changes. I've seen people eating steak a week post-op. I've seen someone die weeks post-op essentially because of gorging herself. While I personally view this surgery as being just short of magical, there's still a lot of work that has to be put in to being an RNY success story. Waiting sucks, but knowledge is necessary for success! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 199

    This stall might kill me!

IT IS NORMAL!!!! You're doing great. Take a deep breath and chill. The only thing that breaks a stall is time, however, sometimes shaking up your routine can help. Add or subtract a coupe hundred calories for a couple weeks. Focus on weights instead of cardio for a couple weeks. If you're not exercising well darn it, you need to start! Pull get there, but it IS beyo d frustrating at times!!!!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 199

    Protein shots....

DONE!!!! And I'm alive! So, not exactly good...but not the acidic bitter taste of the other shot I tried years ago. Definitely have something around to drink after. I will warn ya, shake it up well, there were clumps I wasn't expecting that gave me a definite ewwww moment. Won't be a staple but will keep them around for the days my Protein intake just stinks (had 2 days this week I was in the 40s...) HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 199

What does 'clinical review required' mean?

Happens all the time. Just means your file is either going to a nurse or physician for review to see if you qualify. Bariatric surgery rarely gets a simple yes or no answer since so many variables are involved. No worries, it will be fine! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 199
  9. I was told to expect to average 2-3 pounds a week. You're well over that. Enjoy your success. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 199

    Protein shots....

The shots arrived today. I've yet to try them but the consistence reminds me of a tube of snot....truly the only word that describes it....not sure I'll make it. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 199

    Anti-inflammatory

FYI, if ya wanna know, There actually is a tablet form of toradol (ketorolac) it's not something we prescribe often and typically only for 2-3 days at a time....because it causes ulcers and GI bleeds (surprise!!!). Also there's now a form of IV Tylenol (acetaminophen) I think the brand name is Ofirmev. It's really gaining in popularity because it isn't an NSAID or a narcotic but has decent pain control. Tylenol arthritis is not an NSAID either, it's just a different strength of acetaminophen.

    Apples

I can eat apple slices with peel, I cannot eat it just off the whole apple, and I have to take small bites. I assume it's the amount of peel I get in a bite.
  14. Yup this has not changed for me.

    Obama Care

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/07/04/obesity-disease-insurance-coverage/2447217/ It's a definite maybe.....they don't have to cover bariatric surgery. They may only cover obesity screening (height and weight measurement) and verbal or written education on obesity and the importance of weight loss. Older plans won't have to change anything they're doing. Moral of the story? Don't hold your breath but there's a chance. (PS it's a newspaper article, it's not written by a rocket scientist, but it is a decent summary)

When to start new birth control?

  19. I've had a crazy year. August 1, 2012 I was getting my band removed with revision to RNY but woke up with no RNY. Then had 6 months to wait til my RNY. As of today I'm 7 months post-op, 57 pounds down, 44 pounds to a healthy weight. It's been one heck of a journey dealing with the highs and lows of not getting the surgery and being frustrated waiting...so, I just wanted to say thank you to all those who have replied when I've asked questions or responded when I whine. My friends, family, and coworkers are awesome....but they just don't understand! You guys are my weight loss family,my friends, my cheerleaders. Thank you all so much for the support you've given me the last 13 months. We really are all rock stars for doing what we're doing! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 199
  20. So my surgeon (that did my band, band removal, and RNY) will not do a band on anyone with crohn's or other autoimmune disorders. There's a theory (I don't know if studies prove it or its just a theory) that inserting a foreign body (in this case a lap band) into the body of someone with an autoimmune disorder will cause worsening of the autoimmune disorder and that the body can attempt to attack and eradicate the foreign body causing inflammation and other various rejection symptoms. I'm not a doctor, nor did I sleep at a holiday inn express last night, but I was a miserable lap-band patient....I won't say don't do it but I will say research like crazy before you make that decision. There is also a lap band talk forum...but they're kinda mean if you don't agree with everything you say or don't support the lap band 100%. VERY different from RNYtalk :/ Good luck!!!!!
