Health Care Spending Accounts and Vitamins
SoccerMomma73 replied to LacedUp's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My experience as a provider had been that if I write a prescription for the vitamins then they qualify (and yes they can write a script for over the counter medications). -
Turning to you pro's, I need a list of ?'s to ask Doctor.....
SoccerMomma73 replied to meyouus's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
So I'm a band to RNY. I had band issues forever but eventually ended up with a slip and required urgent removal. I was to be revised to RNY at the same time. Much to my dismay, I woke up post-op after my band removal with no RNY. I had so much swelling and inflammation from the slip and my band was beginning to erode so the doc felt it safest to sew me up and send me home for 12 months to heal. Also, the upper portion of my stomach was stretched out from the slip so if he had done the RNY, he would have had to make my pouch larger than usual....I don't need a larger pouch!! Let me tell ya, it SUCKED!!!! I cried for days then was mad for weeks. When I went for my post-op I had absolutely no reflux, difficulty swallowing, in fact, I felt better than I had in the 3 years I'd been banded. So he upped my surgery to 6 months. Boy I'd I ever enjoy the holidays!!!! Ate like a pig and went back for my pre-op 30 pounds heavier. Oops. I'm now 7 months post op and love my RNY so much I wish I could marry it. It's been a little slice of heaven. I can eat anything as long as it isn't too carb heavy (I'm a dumper) or super greasy fried. I feel soooo good. My weight is slowly creeping down but I'm good as long as it keeps creeping. So questions I'd ask: differences between pre and post op diets between band and RNY. Recovery differences between the 2. Differences in supplements between them as well. Neither recovery was bad but I was much more tired for much longer after the RNY. I also had some major funky depression following both but RNY lasted right at 6 weeks. What can you as the patient do to be more successful with an RNY? I'll try to think of more. Fabulous February Post-Op's
SoccerMomma73 replied to ArmyWife&Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Labs fabulous, except my B12 is low, which is odd since I've been getting monthly B12 injections for almost 4 years and rarely miss em! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198 -

We were required to drink 100% pure juice mixed 50/50 with Water (either 32 or 64 ounces a day, can't remember now!!). If I skipped my juice, my brain died....I had to have that bit of sugar consistently throughout the day or I just couldn't think. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

So I get asked daily by my patients what I'm doing to lose weight and I'm totally open about it. Most people are awesome and congratulate me, a lot of people ask questions. About the only people that respond negatively are my morbidly obese patients ( don't get me wrong, most are nothing but supportive but on the rate occasion I get negative feedback, it's almost always from an obese patient). I get the impression they think I failed or cheated. Maybe it is cheating because it is a WHOLE lot easier than losing weight without the RNY but I hate that I feel like they're judging me. That said, I've had several look in to the surgery and some active in the process of getting it approved so YAY for them for taking control of their lives!!!!

Any October surgeries out there...
SoccerMomma73 replied to debbiedenise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just makes me sad to see SO many people 3-4-5 weeks post op freaking out and doubting their decision because they don't feel they've lost enough weight or they've stalled already....be prepared! It's gonna happen!!! But if you stick with your program, it WILL happen. Maybe not as fast as you want or as easy as you want, but the weight will come off. I encourage you all to have realistic expectations and to enjoy the journey, not just focus on the destination. That said, this is pretty freaking awesome!!! One of my coworkers slapped me on the butt yesterday and said 'oh my god look at that tight little ass!!!' (Yes we're weird at work). No one had EVER said stuff like that to me before!!! -
I can handle 3-4 bites of almost anything. More and I'll dump. But, 3-4 bites satisfies the urge so it works for me!

Any October surgeries out there...
SoccerMomma73 replied to debbiedenise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dear October, your lives are about to explode!!!the most exciting time in your life is here. You're going to be a mass of nerves and emotions. Excitement followed by bra ra ra ra ra......so followed by complete and total confusion. Do I really need this? What about kids and spouse. It's your month on the roller coaster of emotion. Just know, going in, this ain't magic, it's close but it's not magic.it took us years to get this fat and out of shape.it takes years ro get it off. Comparing your loss to others leads to heart ache. If you follow your docs rules, you will lose weight. It may not happen as quickly as you like but you will lose it. You will have stalls, there are times when your body just stops and reevaluates what you've done to it. Ignore the stalls, they are evil and make your brain hurt. Face the stalls with a sense of humor and possibly a glass of wine. The magic trifecta is exercise, protein, and water. Missing any components will slow down weight loss. If you have a true stall (not a 2day stall) either enjoy and wait it out or increase calories and decrease work out intensity or just change things up! Enjoy the ride, enjoy the ups and downs. There are so many moments along this journey that should be savored, don't lose site of the journey while staring at the goal. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198 -

Daily menu samples at different months out
SoccerMomma73 replied to Obeasta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you let the coffee cool? I've tried this on multiple occasions and ended up with nastiness even after allowing the coffee to cool down to 120 degrees before adding the protein. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198 -

Help after Surgery ?
SoccerMomma73 replied to RDCLambert's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I left the hospital on Thursday (late), stayed with my parents until Sunday, went home with my 9 year old. Was home alone BORED Monday and Tuesday and started working 1/2 time on Wednesday. I was fine by myself. My son carried the laundry to and from the washer, otherwise I did everything on my own from 6 days post op. simple cleaning, easy meals, it was fine. I truly believe part of the reason my recovery was so quick and easy was because I was up and doing almost everything within days of surgery. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198 -
Fabulous February Post-Op's
SoccerMomma73 replied to ArmyWife&Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 month bloodwork drawn today (we're a bit off schedule). The rest will be back tomorrow but for the first time since I was a teenager I'm not mildly anemic!!!! For the girl that sucks at taking her multivitamin this is a good thing! Funny weirdness, I've always hated Greek yogurt. Stuck with the dannon light and fit Greek because it was the least nasty to me. Got my son some regular yogurt out for dessert tonight and licked the spoon...and hated it. Would rather have the Greek. Never thought I'd see the day :/ HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198 -

SoccerMomma73 replied to debbiedenise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had this occur....BUT, in the product insert it says if it does happen rinse it off and stick it back in. (FYI I'm like the most constipated human ever since my RNY....we've got some serious effort involved in having a BM and even with all of that I haven't pushed my nuvaring out.) Take a deep breath, you'll be fine. Very very doubtful that you've stopped losing at 8 weeks out. Your body is really freaked out by what has happened. It's doing its best to keep you from starving to death. If you are following your docs rules for diet and exercise, Protein, water, etc, YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT.....but it does take time. Take a breath, you'll get there. Freakin out only causes more creaking out.
