    Surgery scheduled but nervous

I was told I'd get both done at the same time unless there was a problem, then woke up with my band out and no RNY. That totally sucked! There's an actual band to RNY thread around here somewhere, the norm seems to be having both at the same time. I personally vote that if they can be done safely and with a good pouch, do it all together. Having to go under anesthesia twice and have someone dig around in your innards twice isn't my idea of a good time . In my case he said there was so much inflammation and scarring that he would have had to have made a bigger pouch if he'd done it at the same time. I approve of his choice to wait! Good luck!!!! Surgery scheduled but nervous

what if it takes you a long time to get the weight off??? As long as it's coming off and your health is continually improving do you really need to have it off by a certain date? Please don't start being hard on yourself before you've even really started the journey. You will do fine, you will LOVE life without a band. Follow your program and all will be well. But know it's not a race. Enjoy the journey, suffer through the stalls and setbacks, but know as long as you're headed the right direction then you are a success with this. (And to your husband I'd saying having company over 10 days post op to eat food you won't be able to eat...probably not a great idea. Could I have done it? Yup! Would I have wanted to? Nope!) Dark/thick skin

It will likely fade as your insulin levels improve. I can't give you an educated answer on whether it will go away completely. Logically, in my medical mind, as your insulin resistance improves and insulin levels decrease, you will continually shed skin and gave new skin regrowing. I would THINK that if you get to a point where you have healthy levels for a long enough period of time, the skin would eventually return to normal. But that's just me hypothesizing, I've got nothing scientific to back it up. So excited to see how well you do with this surgery and your comorbidities!!!!! Stage 2B Diet Questions

Definitely take the time to bake it in the oven, you want it bubbly and getting crusty! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

    Stage 2B Diet Questions

Somewhere on here there's a recipe for ricotta bake, it's ricotta, eggs, seasoning, and spaghetti sauce. Baked until bubbly. It was my first 'real' food and it was delish!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

    Getting sick at work?

At 7 months post, I haven't been sick. Guess it isn't an issue for everyone (yay!). As mentioned above, I would use caution if adding new foods while at work, just to be safe! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

    Looking for a New PCP

It really depends on you and your health problems. In general, a good family practice provider can deal with most typical things (including diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disease, etc) if you have any complicated issues you may prefer an internal medicine doc. General medicine is really just family practice. BUT, as you've shown, it's important to have a good fit with your provider so a lot is based on personality, and there's really no way for someone else to gauge that :/ HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198
  8. To start off, I deserve this, I know I do. I dealt with morbid obesity my entire life, I took control of my life to make myself healthy. I work for every pound that is ever so slowly falling off. But I look at my friends, or my coworkers and feel bad for them because they've given up, they've decided they can't do it so have accepted a life of fatigue and self loathing, and misery....I feel bad for them, but at times feel guilty for feeling so good. They make comments often about how great I look and how happy I am....and I feel guilty. I know there's nothing I can do other than support them, but it makes me sad sometimes. June Post Ops!

Realty check. It's 980 calories. Not 9800 as I'm sure most of us did at some point pre-op. 980 is still an extremely lie calorie intake. Cut yourself a little slack. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

    Camping!

I know there are a few campers out here. I need good suggestions on dinner meals while camping that aren't too elaborate and will appease my 9 year old Cub Scout. Trying to avoid chili til it's cooler! Thoughts??? HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

    Any Band converters under........

My biggest post op issue was nausea. Terrible with the first 3-4 months, now less but sometimes for absolutely random reasons I feel like in going to puke. Zofran always goes with me. It doesn't happen often now but it's intense when it hits.

Just HOW many pills do we have to take?

One of the perks! Good luck with your decision. It's not easy, but it's so much better than the lap and was HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

    B12 Injections

The standard is 1000 mcg, that said, in severe deficiency we do use more sometimes. That should be somewhere on the order for the B12 shots though. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

Just HOW many pills do we have to take?

I do not absorb B12 well through my GI tract so we bypass that and inject the Vitamin in a shot once a month. A lot of bypass patients don't absorb B12 well and some of us were lucky enough to not absorb it even when we had normal stomachs. Low B12 can cause severe anemia, fatigue, and neurological damage. Just HOW many pills do we have to take?

I have to take 2 flint stones with Iron daily (generic is about $5 a month, probably less), Calcium +D twice a day (again generic, maybe $8 per month), plus an additional Vitamin D tablet once a day ($10 for about a 6 month supply). Total is less than $15 a month and I sure save more than that on food. HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

Hate to break it to ya but I'm a slower loser and shed like crazy. At 7 months, the hair loss is just slowing down and I have little baby sprouts popping up all over! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198
