SoccerMomma73 replied to pookybear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It would kill me...but I'm a dumper. Does the ordering doc know you're an RNY patient? -
spitting thrice and washing hands in iodine...again, never speak the name or it shall appear....

Is Unjury Protein Powder Any Good?
SoccerMomma73 replied to A_ReNUDE_me's topic in Food and Nutrition
I liked the chicken soup pre-op, couldn't stand it post op....was just too salty for me. Wasted 2 canisters . As far as shakes I prefer the syntax nectars, unjury is second, don't love either of em though. -
I was good til you added 'in dinner' bleh

New Directions Products, Required By My Doc For Pre Op
SoccerMomma73 replied to Bronco0605's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sigh...this just can't ever be easy. I agree with the doc/practice providing samples, even having products to purchase. My issue is when patients are told they have to buy exactly what the doc sells and only what they sell. I just don't agree with it. My surgeon says 'hey, these 3 or 4 products work great, try em out, let me know what you think, and hey I sell this one if you want to get it' (he also says you can get it elsewhere if you'd like or can find it cheaper). No where on my post did I say or imply that I'm more knowledgeable than my surgeon or that anyone should go against their surgeons advice. I am not trying to start an argument, I was not personally attacking anyone. I was simply stating my opinion. You are welcome to yours. -
New Directions Products, Required By My Doc For Pre Op
SoccerMomma73 replied to Bronco0605's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a medical professional, I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY dislike when a doc requires you to use a product he sells.....you gotta do what you gotta do but I just find it extremely skeevy of them (I can see offering products, but not requiring them). -
Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery
SoccerMomma73 replied to hayleylamas's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
On that line let me say, when my band prolapsed (not because I'm a pig and did bad things but likely due to a GI bug...) I was supposed to revise to an RNY. When my surgeon got in to take the band out I had so much scarring and inflammation he couldn't do the revision at that time. He originally scheduled me for 12 months out but caved and did it after 6 months. I know of 2 banisters that had do much damage from their band that they've had to have them removed and are unable to have further bariatric surgeries....removable doesn't necessarily mean completely reversible. A point they seem to not share much when educating patients about the band. -
What ya eating tonight?
SoccerMomma73 replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cheeseburger soup. It's cold and yucky and totally comfort food weather. -
Takes longer to heal, decreased oxygenation for increased respiratory risk from surgery including pneumonia, increased risk of ulcers and GI bleed.

My son is the best little soccer goalie ever and I was born in 73.

Anyone Following A Paleo/primal Diet?
SoccerMomma73 replied to nomorecupcakes's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Very much just a vague guideline... 4 small meals a day consisting of a Protein plus a veg, fruit, or grain (or combination of). Each meal should be 200-250 calories with 20 grams of protein per meal and 15-20 grams of carbohydrate per meal. Grains should be whole grains, avoid processed grains like ready to eat Pasta and cereals. My approved list of grains (really it's more of an approved list of carbs): quinoa (which, nutritionally, is a rock star), chickpeas, lentils/beans (except wax Beans and green beans), fat free retried beans, whole grain crackers, Melba toast, potatoes, peas (except snow peas), corn, hominy, oatmeal (not instant) m cream of wheat, grits. In moderation, whole wheat, high Fiber bread, whole wheat pasta, multi grain English muffins, kashi whole grain cereals (or other whole grain cereals), whole grain waffles.... It's more about appropriate amounts than it is barring foods (except for junk foods). Now, in all honesty, 1/2 of the above I cannot eat because I will dump (super sensitive to carbs, yay me!) but I'm the same with fruit...grapes have kicked my butt 3 times now and they are absolutely an approved item. Obviously I'm not too bright -
Sleep Apnea Tube Question
SoccerMomma73 replied to Angi281's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh just wait . You'll get crazier. It's totally normal . I've had a c-section, gallbladder removal, 2 surgical repairs on an arm, lap band placement, lap band removal, and most recently an RNY. I'm also a medical professional, and absolutely a realist. I spent the weekend before my RNY crying and writing letters to those I love...just in case. . Part of it is starvation brain, part if it is just fear of the unknown...it's normal but don't key it make you back down. You deserve a new and healthier you and you've gone through too much crap to give it up now . Good luck!!!!! -
Sleep Apnea Tube Question
SoccerMomma73 replied to Angi281's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're out before they insert it....maybe a sore throat post-op but otherwise you'll never know it's there. -
Sleep Apnea Tube Question
SoccerMomma73 replied to Angi281's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely! You're more likely to have a compromised air passage if you have sleep apnea so they need it as much, if not more, than those without sleep apnea. -

Anyone Following A Paleo/primal Diet?
SoccerMomma73 replied to nomorecupcakes's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I keep reading about this and I keep thinking COOL!!! WE GOTTA TRY THIS.... But then I think, cookie??? No more cookie??? No more bread?!?!?!? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Then I get lazy and blow it off again.....one of these days...maybe..... -
Okay also, since you like to flaunt your knowledge, you might want something to back up your claim above about most RNY patients gaining their weight back by the time they're as far out as you are. That, my friend, is blatantly incorrect information.

I'm a fan of the vanilla crunch and coconut cashew. They have 22 carbs but the VAST majority of that is fiber. 18 grams!!!) so really the net carbs are 4...not too bad for a protein bar. They don't have the texture I want in a bar but they're pretty good overall!

Getting Sleeved Is Like Getting Married.
SoccerMomma73 replied to ih8fat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I want a divorce!!! Wait, no, I divorced my band and got an RNY, I love my RNY. I never had a sleeve so I can't compare. Dammit, I just want a cookie but I'd dump if I had a cookie..wasn't bariatric surgery the easy way out and always so much fun?!?!?!
