My Dr. Says If I Gain 1 More Pound I Will Be Given An Extra Month Visit But....
SoccerMomma73 replied to KeeWee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have to agree, cheating pre-op can lead to cheating post op which is bad and can have dire consequences. I only say this because I want the healthiest and safest outcome for you. Do what they tell you, don't lie, be very very careful. -

Sleeping Comfortable After Surgery...
SoccerMomma73 replied to linda305's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thought I was weird because I laid on m tummy with my left side lifted up on a pillow to take off the weight. Slept like a baby . Plus, it's easier to get out of bed from that position Just slide to the edge and push yourself up. -
I was in patient 3 1/2 days, they held me hostage an extra night because I wasn't 'passing gas' (now, post RNY, I pass gas CONSTANTLY...irony). I stand all day, I took off a week and a half then did 3 days 1/2 days, at 2weeks post op I was full time....and man was I washed out by the end of the day! I kept my heating pad at work and when I had a chance to sit down and do charts I'd have that puppy snuggled up to me....it was awesome. I had hot tea I sipped on all day cuz I was freezing I was ready to go back though, it kept me busy and moving. I had an amazingly easy recovery..

Anyone Have Flare Up Of Gout?
SoccerMomma73 replied to kvdme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So...one of the known risks of high protein weight loss diets is gout....all the protein (not all proteins but many meat proteins) causes increased Uric acid levels which causes the gout crystals to accumulate, which causes ouch. Google low purine diet or gout diet and see if there's a way for you to meet your protein requirements while staying lower purine. Also drink lots of water. I hate that this is happening to you. Gout is miserable!!! And I really hope they gave you good drugs for the pain!!!! -
sent ya a request

What's your MFP name? Also, don't judge my son gave me a tummy bug, haven't been on all weekend because I lived off crackers and chicken noodle soup...protein? What protein??
-
Me too I think that's the last weird quirk I'm seeing though.
-
Your hair, skin, nails, metabolism, all depend on protein. Hair growth and bad nails would be common but of bigger concern would be malnutrition or 'wasting' if your protein intake was way low (think of cancer patients that are sick and can't or won't eat...that gaunt appearance). Protein is a biggie. Minor deficiencies would likely slow your weight loss as well, before the really bad stuff starts happening.

There's a learning curve with RNY just as there is with band and sleeve...as a revision to RNY I never got that awesome 10 pound a week weight loss some others do, I think I maxed out at 3 a week a time or two, very similar to my band loss (dammit!!) (off topic, if anyone has data to explain why revisions lose slower I'd love to see it!!! My surgeon warned me, my personal experience says the same. I assume it's because my body has gotten smart from the previous ups and downs and knows how to conserve every ounce it gets but really have nothing to back it. If you read the RNY boards (which I encourage, cuz again, we're all in the same boat essentially) at some point between months 3-6 there tends to be a rather long stall then a significant slow down in how fast weight is lost. If you've done the lifestyle changes things pick back up, if you haven't then they slow way down. The thing with Amy of these surgeries is that the surgery is only a small part of the equation. Long term, eating healthy and exercise are what will get you to goal and keep you there, the surgery helps for sure, but it's not magic. Two of my best friends are sleevers who have lost next to nothing over 2 years...they don't exercise, one lives off soda. This equation doesn't add up to weight loss. I have at least 2 acquaintance that are years post RNY and are around 300 and 400 pounds respectively...they had decent success initially but again, being parked on your ass with a Big Mac and big gulp does not work long term. I am VERY direct with my patients about this before I refer them to a bariatric surgeon. They look at me and think damn that was easy but in reality I'm 40 pounds from goal and work hard for what I lose....the RNY helped (couldn't have done it without it!) as did the band in step 1, but the majority,of this was hard earned

Asthma, Can I Still Have The Rny?
SoccerMomma73 replied to meyouus's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Asthma is not a contraindication for the surgery, no. If it's severely flared they may postpone it though. Best of luck!!! -
yum! Thanks . We like easy!!!

Nurses As Bariatric Patients
SoccerMomma73 replied to LynRN's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have patients come to me specifically because they know I won't look at them and blow off their complaints or concerns because they're obese...they truly appreciate that I've stood in their shoes. And if I ever lose that compassion, it's time for me to move on. -
I'm not! Post more!!!

What Do You Look Forward To?
SoccerMomma73 replied to wildlyme's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Being comfortable....in chairs, on planes, on rides, in elevators. Whatever. Not fearing the bar won't latch or the belt won't reach of my fat will rub up against someone....life at <200 pounds is AMAING!?!! I can't even imagin life 40 pounds smaller. -
Pot...kettle...black G'night lovelies!!! It's been a fun filled day.
-
::sigh:: I think I love you.

. My son gave me a GI bug and I threw up for days on end, had to have an emergency unfill because I could tolerate fluids. My band never worked correctly again although I stuck it out for 2 more years. In hind sight (and my surgeon agrees) it likely slipped just a tiny bit with that episode.

Oh geez, I have no answer but am so sorry you're having to go through this. Both physically and emotionally. It is absolutely exhausting. Fingers crossed that this is it and y'all can get back to normal after this.

Pardon, but I did not quote studies or attempt to educate anyone on their bad choices. The topic was about decreasing lap bands in certain areas. I've had that specific discussion with my bariatric surgeon and thought, obviously incorrectly, that some might like to hear his perspective. I bashed no one. I've used the line 'cant we all just get along' on the band, RNY, and sleeve forums and I truly believe it. We are all here for the same purpose, our health. We have much we can learn from each others experiences, both good and bad. There is no dividing line that forbids me from entering either the band or sleeve forums. My failed band journey and what I've learned from it is as valid of a perspective as that from someone who has been banded and lost 300 pounds successfully. It is my perspective and it is valid whether you agree with it or not. You will not find me bashing the band or starting inflammatory arguments. You will find me providing my opinion when it feel it may provide some insight or knowledge. Like it or not, agree with it or not, I don't really give a rats ass at this point.
