Ya know...there may be a future in "crotchless shapers"....I've always wondered how anyone was able to snap the snaps in that area, I suppose I'm just not that flexible, but the crotchless version...yup, that makes sense!! (as long as no manpart bulges slip out)

If I knew pre-op what I know post-op, I would have....
SoccerMomma73 replied to warriors_journey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
::thumbup:: started exercising instead of waiting until I was a week post-op and already tired to begin with...(can't say they didn't tell me to!) -
Research before you have the band...
SoccerMomma73 replied to ElfiePoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
 You'll be fine! It's kinda like parenthood, you can research it forever, but you never REALLY know how you're going to do until you're thrown in head first. I'm glad you've been reading, you know the basics, you know about bandster hell, you know what you need to do, and you'll do great. Just take a deep breath and enjoy tomorrow then wake up the next day knowing it's the first day of the rest of your life. Good luck Thursday! Can't wait to watch you on your journey! -
Hungry after 3 weeks
SoccerMomma73 replied to librarychick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be 3 weeks tomorrow and while I definitely can eat more than I am supposed to I'm also definitely as hungry as I used to be. I'm trying to eat 3 small (but not small enought) soft/healthy meals, late morning I break out the string cheese and late afternoon I eat a small low fat yogurt...it seems to be the magic combo that will keep me from grazing until my next meal....I don't know what else to tell ya, it will get better, just do your best and be patient! Good luck! -
Congrats on the band, what a wonderful way to start the new year! Stomach growling like crazy it totally normal. If you're like the majority of us, in the next couple days the "not really hungry" will give way to "starving" until you get to move up to soft foods and then get your first fill (come on first fill!!!! Only seven ore days!). I'm so happy for you and can't wait to follow your journey!

My surgeon puts you on a protein shake/liquid diet for 2 weeks pre-op. He doesn't care how much you lose, as long as you lose. His nurse said he's had people who lost 2 pounds and people who lost 30....but yeah, I've heard tothers say they had to lose x number of pounds of their surgery would be cancelled so I suppose it varies from doc to doc.

Considering a LapBand. Would you do it over again?
SoccerMomma73 replied to pmommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just shy of 3 weeks post op so I can't help you out with a lot of this but I can tell you there are already times when I forget I've had it done. I just feel like me. I've only had 1 bad episode of heartburn, about 2:00 a.m. New Years morning after I'd had snacks I shouldn't have as well as sparkling grape juice...so, no more carbonation for me (luckily I've never been a big soda girl so that won't be too hard). I'm struggling with the liquids with meals issue but it IS getting better every day so I figure in a month I won't even think twice about it. I was on liquids (protein shakes) for 2 weeks pre-op then clear liquids 24 hours pre-op and 24 hours post-op followed by 2 weeks of full liquids, 2 weeks of soft/mushies, then another month of being cautious (no lettuce, peels, etc, most of the things you mentioned above). Weight loss post op varies a lot. The first week it melted off, then my appetite came back (damn the luck), I've continued 2-3 pounds a week but it's not as easy as I'd like it to be and I'm anxiously awaiting my first fill. I've had no complications at all an would do it again in a heart beat simply because it makes me more aware of what I'm eating...so, even if I don't drop 100 pounds this year I'm fairly certain I'll at least continue a gradual decline....definitely worth it! Good luck with your decision!! -
The best friend part...it's so true...and I'm still trying to figure out how to replace that friend.... Good luck, it will get better

Congrats and welcome! Keep getting up and around but take it easy for a few days. Fluids fluids fluids and GAS-X!!!!!! Gas-x saved my life! Take care of yourself. Can't wait to follow your journey!

No restriction whatsoever!
SoccerMomma73 replied to SwanGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, basically if you were banded in December you're currently trapped in bandster hell/heck! WOOHOO!!! I seriously was thinking by day 10 that I had so screwed up by getting a band and wasted a small fortune :blushing: THEN I found this website and discovered so many other folks in my shoes....I'm now off liquids and on soft/mushies and while I can definitely eat much more than I'm supposed to (my surgeon says 2-4 tablespoons is a meal????!!!) I'm sticking to much smaller portions than I would have before and at least not starving to death. I was banded on 12/16 and I'm 8 days from my first fill, WOOHOO!!! Still losing, though much slower than the first week, I'll take it! We're tough, we can make it! -
Starving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SoccerMomma73 replied to JustBreathe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're normal!!! Congratulations! I woke up at 4:00 a.m. on day 7 STARVING and stayed that way for about 5 days. I was allowed cream of wheat and oatmeal on my liquids but make sure you make them fairly thin the first couple times, I didn't thin my cream of wheat out enough the first time and thought I was going to have a heart attack and die for about 3 hours after I ate it, chest pain/pressure radiating up into my left shoulder...It was miserable but eventually did pass. I'd also recommend blending the oatmeal the first time or two so you don't get hung on a chunk. I was also allowed pudding on my full liquids which I fudged and added fat free whipped topping too...that satisfied a craving too  I also created a cream cheese/pudding/whipped topping concoction for Christmas that filled me for a while (sorry, no recipe, just a little of this and that until I liked how it tasted). Good luck, it gets MUCH better once you hit the soft stage! And like they said above, get your Protein, it helps :blushing: -
Live alone - post-op care
SoccerMomma73 replied to SippNSotaGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You know, there are people on here who have had the entire procedure and never told a soul. I don't know how they made it. I had surgery on Wed. and was back at work on Monday, the first 2 days were tough, by the third day I was pretty much good to go. I guess if your job doesn't involve a lot of physical activity (and absolutely NO lifting) you can probably make it. I will say my weight loss has been much quicker than you would expect on your average diet and by 10 days post op I had patients noticing and asking how I was doing it so have a good answer ready! I told the people closest to me before surgery then decided after that I'd just tell anyone who asks and so far I've had nothing but support from everyone, a LOT of questions from a few but still support. Do whatever is right for you, but it's nice to have someone you can confide in and who can support you with this. Good luck! You'll do great -
Live alone - post-op care
SoccerMomma73 replied to SippNSotaGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You'll be fine, achy and tired but fine. I'd probably make a bed on the couch to rest on for the first 48 hours where you're close to the kitchen (to get in all those liquids you'll be sipping) and hopefully you have a bathroom downstairs....just keep in mind that pain meds can make you dizzy so be careful on the stairs. And you can't drive yourself home so you'll need to hitch a ride with someone. Good luck! -
Hello - New to The Forum
SoccerMomma73 replied to VBomber22's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck with your decision. You're right, now is the time to do something before you have any serious heath problems. I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and have been overweight my entire life. I'd lose 30 pounds, gain 40, I think we all know the drill. I was tired of hiding from cameras and refusing to look at pictures because I didn't want to see myself. I'm a single mom with a 5 year old son and while I do as much as I can I still felt like I was missing out on so much of his childhood because I was tired and worn out by the end of the day. I'd go out to practice soccer with him and 10 minutes later would be exhausted. I still have a long long way to go and can't wait to get my first fill and have a little restriction but so far am loving my band. The pre-op and post-op 2 week liquid diets SUCK but eventually end. The surgery itself was a breeze to recover from. And I'm already feeling better, less tired and run down and kicking my son's butt on Wii fit . My best advice? Go to your PCP and get started on the supervised weight loss program so that you've got that going, even if you decide against the lap band it will be beneficial to you. Then read, read, read, and read some more. There is some excellent advice on this site and a lot of people who are ore than happy to help with any questions you have. Again good luck! -
You're right, it is a tough decision and not to be taken lightly. There are problems that could arise, no one can argue that. I'm a single mom of a five year old, I'm all he has...I didn't take it lightly either....however, for me, the risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, etc...plus the fact that I was missing out on so much of my little boys life made me opt to go for it. I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery but haven't regretted it for a second. Good luck with your decision. I suggest you go to a seminar, it'll scare ya but give you a lot more information to base your decision on.

Don't be ashamed! Just start over!!! If you read other posts many of us are struggling through before our first fill. Apparently it's very very common to have little to no restriction and be starving all the time. What does your surgeon want you eating 3 weeks out? For most of us it seems to be soft/mushy stuff. Stick with what's approved for you right now so you don't mess up your surgery (even if you're eating more than you are supposed still stick with the approved stuff), make sure you're getting plenty of water and protein and get your booty moving. Nobody said this was going to be easy. This is your first real post band challenge and you can beat it! Keep your eye on the prize, a healthy you. It will get easier after you get your fills and get some resistance but until you get there do your best and don't beat yourself up too hard. You can do this, you really can!

I'm so excited for you! The day before surgery is almost like the day before Christmas...the anticipation!!! I am very glad to hear you have help and support, you also have a great attitude going in. Take care and good luck, we'll be waiting to hear from you on the other side!!!
-
I'm so excited for you!!! Be glad you didn't have to do 2 weeks pre op liquids like a lot of us. You can make it 2 more days. Just think 2 days out of the rest of your life, not such a big deal! Good luck, we'll be thinking about you!!!!

Can't imagine a lifetime of this
SoccerMomma73 replied to ZACHYSMOM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You shouldn't be having that much trouble with clear liquids, if you're not getting at least 64 oz. of fluid a day you're likely getting dehydrated and that is going to complicate everything. I would call your surgeon for advice, if he's comfortable with how you are then I would stick with broth and gatorade, hit the gas-x like crazy, and walk walk walk....but absolutely I'd call and let him know how much pain you're in and how little you are able to get down! Good luck, it will get better, really it will!!! -
My surgery was supposed to be at 9:00, the day before they called (which freaked me out, I just KNEW they were cancelling) and moved it to 1:30...at 3:20, after having been NPO since 10:00 p.m. the night before they finally came to get me to take me back. It was all worth it but just something to whine about . Glad you're doing well, you'll be sore a bit but it's really not that bad is it?

I have a stitch sticking out!
SoccerMomma73 replied to Melinco's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded the day before you and have one sticking out also....I'm just pretending it's not there for now so let me know what your surgeon says! -
Just know that we're here for you in and support you in your decision. I'm sorry to hear you don't have support at home, that makes everything hard but shoulders back, chin up, you can do it on your own. Three months is nothing when you consider how long you've had bad habits and how long it took you to get where you are. You lost 6 pounds over three months, three months that included Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years...In an average year I probably would have gained 15 pounds during that time so consider those 6 pounds to be pretty freaking amazing and keep on going!
-
I've only been banded about 2 1/2 weeks but came out to my co-workers as soon as I got my surgery date. I've now got patients (I'm a physician assistant) noticing that I've lost weight and asking questions and made the decision this week to just tell whoever asked...I have several (MANY) patient who would benefit from the lap band and decided that maybe I can be a role model and encourage them to do what they need to (and have had 2 of them schedule appointments with my surgeon this week!). I figure if I can give someone hope or encouragement it's worth blabbing about it! Whatever decision you make is the right one for you, don't fret about it too much!
-
Welcome and good luck! The waiting is HORRIBLE! Once you make the decision to go for it then having to sit back and wait while everything else gets done is terrible, but you'll make it. Use this time to read read read and ask us anything that pops into your mind. I'm early in the journey but will be the first to jump up and say "if you're ready to do the work GO FOR IT!!!!!" Again, good luck! We're rooting for ya!

So, I'm new here, just found this world earlier this week when I googled "2 weeks post lap band and starving" and boom, here you are, and 'lo! Apparently everyone 2 weeks post surgery is starving right along with me!!! I was starting to have my doubts, "oh my God, I"m going to be hungry forever?!?" but now am on mushies and while not full or satisfied, no longer starving and anxiously awaiting my first fill in 11 days. I lost 12 pounds in the 2 weeks pre-op and now have lost 12 pounds post-op, so 24 pounds since Dec. 3, not too shabby! I jumped up to get something off the ceiling at work earlier this week and almost lost my pants (much to my co-workers amusement). Oh, and a little about me in case you're curious. I'm a divorced single mom to an amazing 5 year old boy. My ex was verbally and on a few occasions physically abusive. But we got out and never looked back and our lives are amazing. I've been overweight forever, in fact, my mom got yelled at when she took me to my 6 week check-up because I'd gained too much weight...My mom had a gastric bypass almost 30 years ago, I think I am a combination of genes and learned behavior. My family loves to eat, it's what we do to celebrate, it's what we do when we get together, it's what we do to show our love...and we can cook too...bad combination to be a good cook and a great eater! So...I'm cruising right along, feeling great, little to no pain unless I do something stupid (lift something too heavy, etc), hungry, but not starving, exercising/walking 4-5 times a week, and happy and excited about my future (something I haven't felt in a long time), not to mention well on my way to a healthier me. I'm happy to be here and thrilled to have someone to ask my millions of questions to when I need to! Best of luck on your journeys!
