Try not to be too nervous, it is so worth it! Take a deep breath, relax, and try to imagine you and your life a year or two from now. (I cried when I met my doc too, go figure)

wierd stomach sounds?
SoccerMomma73 replied to dontgoggilme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too, me too! Although the burps aren't as bad as they were at first they're still impressive. The gurgling is almost constant. Had to hide when I'm standing inches from a patient trying to examine them, I spend a lot of time saying "excuse me!" although I'm not exactly certain that's the appropriate response when the alien in your tummy starts growling at strangers.... But, as above, well worth it! -
banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
SoccerMomma73 replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Leigha, I think the appropriate answer is "I try not to be" but I'm probably am way too protective. It's been just the two of us since he was just a few days old and I think that makes it even worse. Luckily we're a few years (he's only five) from dating so I have a while to prepare myself (can you EVER be prepared??). My co-workers already have a posse formed for the first little girl that breaks his heart...He's such a good kid, I'm excited to watch him grow and see who he turns in to, but that whole letting go thing, ECK!!!! I too am jealous of the pool, although Connor and I would essentially be bright red lobster people all the time from the sunburns, it'd probably be worth it! -
We got brave and hit the local buffet last night (my son's night to pick), so I paid twice as much as my 5 year old only to eat about 1/3 what he did. It just felt so wrong!

Need advice from the experts...trouble drinking water 1 day post op...
SoccerMomma73 replied to pmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very similar for about 72 hours then it got easier...then on day 7 I was starving. Take tiny sips and rest a few seconds/minutes between sips. I was told 3-4 ounces an hour so about an ounce ever 15-20 minutes...it's not much. If you can't get that much down you need to call your doc before you get dehydrated. Good luck, it does get better! -
I wasn't allowed to start eating solid proteins for over a month post-op, it may just be too soon and you're body isn't ready? Dunno but it's a thought.
-
I felt find but I stuck to the proteins and a little broccoli so really nothing that should have caused a problem for me. It was really weird to be staring at a plate that had almost nothing on it and know I wouldn't be able to finish even that little bit...but still yummy!

I've wondered too...who will I be (or maybe who I am really)? I've been fat since I was a little kid. I've avoided planes, men, changing jobs...a million thing for fear of not fitting in (into the seats) or rejection because of what people see on the outside..... On the outside I'm happy and outgoing but if you look deeply I'm actually always trying to make everyone happy. Is that the real me? Or is that just the me I created to try to get people to like me? Oh well, I guess we'll see! And yes, you are cute, sexy, and fabulous, keep bringing it on!

Surprises during or after surgery??
SoccerMomma73 replied to fhce13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We lovingly refer to it as "bandster hell"...from the time the swelling goes down to the time you start getting restriction...I woke up at 4 a.m. day 7 and would have eaten a cow had one been available....Just keep in mind it does get better and you can work through this! I actually was much better once I could start mushies...still hungry some but not starving. Good luck! -
Surprises during or after surgery??
SoccerMomma73 replied to fhce13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say the starvation that started a week post-op (I hadn't been here prior to surgery and my doc's office failed to mention it)...also, my new found amazing ability to burp loud enough and long enough to make my 5 year old son proud... And, how quickly I felt just fine and dandy like I'd never had surgery post op. -

I second the "work sucked today" statement. Our clinic went live with a new computer system last week and it's killing all of us. But this is the positive board so enough of that! I am currently surrounded by furballs. We have 2 very spoiled cats (good cat and demon cat from hell) whom we love dearly and are currently babysitting my parents puppies. Lily is a black and white cocker (spoiled rotten), and buttons is 1/2 mini-weener and 1/2, err, something? They are both adorable, sweet, well mannered, and spoiled rotten. I'm spending my nights fighting for space in my bed since they all are convinced they are supposed to sleep in bed too...It does stay nice and toasty! We've had a couple gorgeous days in central Arkansas and have got to spend a lot of time outside (my butt is KILLING me from yardwork Sunday...bend and squat, bend and squat, repeat a million times) but now the talk is of thunderstorms and severe weather...I love spring, I love a good storm, but the tornadoes...don't love 'em so much. -
Center for Excellence?
SoccerMomma73 replied to amey_idaho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some insurance companies (Medicare particularly) will not cover bariatric surgery unless it is performed at a Center of Excellence...fyi. -
I live off crystal light, have for years...lemonade and pink lemonade are our favorites around here (less stain potential...) no problems so far. Good luck!

You might try low fat sour cream...it'd have a twang but better than ranch. Good luck and let us know what you come up with! -
Amazing Drop in Blood Pressure
SoccerMomma73 replied to adagray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, similar to many of you. My doc stopped my BP meds while in the hospital post op because my BP had been doing amazing without meds for 2 days. At about 2 weeks out (about the same time I was allowed to start mushies) I restarted at half dose because I was creeping up and hanging out at the 140/90 range. The half dose has kept me well controlled but now at 35 (ish) pounds down I'm starting to get the light headed/swimmy issues again so I'm likely looking at cutting back again, WOOHOO!!! I had the wrist BP monitors and beg my patients not to buy 'em, they just aren't consistant so go for the arm cuff if you're going to buy one. Part of it is the weight loss, part of it is the fact that we're exercising (most of us anyway), and part of it is our healthier diets (including less salt from not eating the prepared crap I used to eat) but it all adds up and can be dramatic! -

SoccerMomma73 replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FYi, my doc stopped my blood pressure meds while I was in the hospital and told me just to watch it really closely. I was averaging around 110/60 in the hospital, med free for 48 hours...which is amazing. About the time I went on mushies I had to go back on 1/2 a dose of what I was on but recently swarted to get that swimmy feeling a couple time so need to start watching it closer, maybe, just maybe it's time to get off of 'em! Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous, today is supposed to be close so the boy and I will be spending the afternoon out back doing yardwork, then off to dinner with my older brother who is leaving tomorrow for Wisconsin for 2 months before heading off to Afghanistan...again.... My son will likely cry, he adores his uncle James, which in turn will make me cry, bleh. For those of you who have it, enjoy the sun! For those of you who don't we'll enjoy it for ya! -
I was told by my doc's office to take pictures of every teeny tiny rash and got and to call or e-mail them about each and every one of them to use as documentation should I choose plastic surgery later on....

Must agree Greek yogurt is the nastiest of the nasty! I bought TONS of it pre-op (and that stuff is expensive) and 2 days post op bit into a big spoonful....BLEH. I can tolerate the honey (don't particularly like it but eat it once or twice a week at work if I start feeling "snacky") but have boycotted the rest. Yoplait all the way baby!!!!!!!! Bob, glad you're feeling better. Day 3 I felt great and went shopping, it kicked my ass. Had to sit down and rest in the middle of the store (luckily it was a furniture store so I just looked like I was testing things out), weak, shaky, lovely feeling, then made it home and slept for 3 hours...apparently I wasn't as ready to go back out into the big bad world as I thought I was. Take it easy! -
I'm ready for Friday. Very ready for Friday. My clinic "went live" with a new computer system yesterday and holy smokes batman, it sucks! So much for efficiency! The crankiness is making us all more cranky. I tossed and turned all night with dreams of the person in charge of the big switch last night (and no, not THOSE kind of dreams, she's not my type). Forget a cookie, I want a margarita! One of my least favorite things about Arkansas is that I've yet to find a good margarita up here, Texas spoiled me I suppose. On a lighter note, my recently retired parents fly off to Costa Rica tomorrow. I am very excited for them and so very glad that they've planned for their retirement and can afford to go do things like this. I am, however, REALLY FREAKING JEALOUS, but my turn will come some day too (I hope!). I have inherited their adorable and really spoiled rotten dogs for the next 2 weeks so keep your fingers crossed the weather holds and we can all get out in the evenings for a walk. Now it's time to go snuggle under the covers with the 2 really spoiled dogs who also think they belong under the covers...at least I can keep the heat turned way down while they're here! Hope you are all having a great week!
