banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
SoccerMomma73 replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's 43 and gray and misting...great day to be inside, curled up with a book. Which is exactly how I intend to spend the day. Maybe not the most exciting Sunday ever but I'll enjoy every second of it. -
Be VERY careful. I've had 3 fills and with 2 of them was tighter the second or third day.

deflating the band
SoccerMomma73 replied to fredgood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sort of with HB. While I'm eating healthier and being more active, I can't imagine a point where I'll ever not need the band giving me a "friendly reminder" that it's time to stop eating... I can say I had some restriction after I got the band before I got a fill so I assume you'll have a little even if it's empty. -

Newbie Questions

First congrats on being banded! My surgery was in December so I'm out a bit but after the second or third day I could drink an entire Protein shake without difficulty as well....Until you get a few fills and really get some restriction going you probably won't notice a difference. I've tried a couple different protein powders and didn't like either, either chalky or had an after taste. My doc actually prefers you eat your protein rather than drink it (solid food sits in the pouch longer and keeps you full...) so I only do the shakes for a couple days after a fill then I get my protein from real food....sorry I can't be more help! Good luck! -

Snow???? Seriously snow??? That's just WRONG! We had a lovely morning (70ish and sunny) which has morphed into rain rain rain....better than snow! I'm nice and dry in my house watching a sappy chick flick and enjoying the fact that I have not hurled, puked, PBed, whatever you want to call it, in a while 24 hours now! After the last 3 days I was starting to wonder. Banded life, it certainly takes some adjusting... I found a secret hidden stash of old underware (like new, apparently bought during one of my brief episodes of shrinkage and then stashed away because I knew someday I'd lose the weight again), so, I'm now the proud wearer of non-butt-sagging-panties! Woohoo!!! I attempted the purchase of new bras today as well, however, that did not go so well, so, no sagging butt, but no comment on the other. Have a great evening! -
FYI, I was sent home on pills and have never had a problem with any of them (3 months out). I was told to wait until I returned for my post-op check-up at a month before I started my vitamins...different strokes for different folks!

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group

Welcome chickadee, join the party! I keep trying to get myself to commit to a 5K and backing out. I broke out the couch to 5K information and the first time I tried jogging sprained my butt which then bothered me for a month...so I'm using that as my excuse...but I really wanna do it!! I just don't want to take the commitment to do it if that makes sense. On the fill front, I'm stuck somewhere between liquids and mushies, anything thicker has dire consequences. With that in mind I hit 41 pounds lost today! Woohoo! Apparently not being able to eat anything chewable agrees with me. Hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm curled up on the couch with a trashy romance novel and a warm purring cat. Things are VERY quiet when the boy is gone. :frown: -

Surgeon disappointed in weight loss / Bandsters a Dying Breed?
SoccerMomma73 replied to A New Woman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would tell him to kiss my big (but smaller than it used to be) white butt....seriously, I would be finding another surgeon. Lap band surgery is what you make of it. We could all eat around it (easily) if we wanted to. Fifty pounds in a year is completely and perfectly on track and is NOTHING to feel bad about. Take care of yourself and keep up the good work. I don't care if he was having a bad day, he has no right to take it out on you. You deserve someone who cares about you and has your best interest at heart. -
Eight pounds until I'm no longer morbidly obese and move down to "super obese" WOOHOO!!!!

Awww...good for you! Ain't life not being selfish, miserable, negative, argumentative, pessimistic jerk with a huge chip on my shoulder feeding on others' misery grand? Life is good but short, might as well enjoy it while you're here for the ride!

Holy moly, so that's what tight feels like! Very very weird. I'm drinking fine so I'm not too tight, but tighter than I'd want to be on a permanent basis. I can eat a couple bites at a time (lunch was the meat out of 1/2 a roast beef sandwich and a pickle spear...over 30 minutes...and it took every second of the 30 minutes) and I have now officially been welcomed into the world of PBing...not exactly what I expected, but still ewwww. Does that mean I'm a big girl in the band world now? I was hoping to hit 40 pounds by my birthday (next Wednesday) as of this morning I'm 39...I think I'm good for the 40 at this rate! Anyway, I'm good, just surprised, having never felt anything like this before. Hope everyone had a great day, hump day is OVER!!!! Connor's spring break is next week, we leave for Ohio early Wed so he grandparents are kidnapping him after school Friday and taking him up to their lake out until Tuesday...which means AN ENTIRE WEEKEND CHILD FREE!!!! I have a massage, pedicure, and manicure scheduled for Saturday (gift certificates from Christmas, I'm not one to splurge on myself that much) so it should be heavenly! (please note, I love my child beyond words...I also love having 2-3 days where I can sleep late, read when I want to, and have a totally whine free zone, and run around half naked in my now saggy underwear all day if I feel the urge) Come on Saturday! -
Why do I struggle to eat those last 2 bites?
SoccerMomma73 replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a mess, I have both the first bite syndrome and the last bite...the warm tea or a couple sips or warm Soup (egg drop is the bomb!) seem to "loosen" things up a bit for me and then I'm fine. Took a while to figure that out, I kept thinking I was eating too fast or taking bite that were too big but I'd pay attention and I wasn't. I almost always try to convince myself I can take another bite or two...and then regret it if I do. Luckily I have a 5 year old who is a mooch and constantly asking if he can have a bite...works for both of us! -
You're pre-op right? It sucked and I whined a lot...but eventually it DOES get easier (around day 4 or 5) HOWEVER...if you cheat, the suckiness starts back over...similar to being a heroine addicted..coming down sucks but if you start doing it again then you have to go through the suckiness all over again. Good luck, you can do it. It sucks, but you can do it! (SF jello, popsicles, jello, popsicles...all day long, got so tired of them I got tired of eating in general after a while)

Welcome newbies!!! Jump in! We don't bite, well, most of us don't bite, I've heard rumors about this Felix guy that lurks around but have no proof. Grandparents are the greatest blessing...My dad is retired air force so we saw my grandparents once or twice a year, loved 'em but was never close. Connor and my folks have an amazing relationship and all parties involved start whining if they go a week without seeing eachother (we live about 15 minutes from them). They are also my wonderful and amazing sick kid back-up...as a single mom, I can't imagine life without 'em. The fill was yesterday at 4. I'm supposed to be on liquids but cheated and had crackers this afternoon (no yelling!!!) I've just been sort of queasy all day and wanted...something...I dunno what, but it actually seems to have settled things down. I had great restriction for the first 2 1/2 weeks after the last fill so I'm expecting bigthings out of this one...I think I'm getting close to that mysterious "sweet spot" but we'll see! They call me their "easy" patient...they ask a million question and I keep saying "no" "no" "no"...I feel fine, I'm great, not losing a million pounds a month but steadily in their 1-2 pounds a week range so I'm certainly not going to complain. I'm at 8.2 in a 14 cc band, they found an extra 0.5 when they pulled the Fluid out yesterday...go figure. We are off to soccer practice! If the boy is behaving I'll sneak away and walk around the bigger fields a couple times rather than sit and stare. I had a patient come in today I haven't seen in a year and her eyes almost bugged out of her head. There was no "are you losing weight? it was "HOW MUCH HAVE YOU LOST!" it felt great (makes up for the shrinking boob issue!) Bob, what's on the menu? Have a great evening everyone! -
Fill #3 today, no problems at all. I'm now at 8.2 in a 14 cc band, much to my surprise. (She pulled out everything and I had an extra 0.5 cc no one has mentioned yet). But whatever, as long as it keeps working! I love my band, I love my band, I love my band!!!!

A couple months is nothing if you look at how long it took you to get here...take your time, consider ALL your options and do what's right for you. I'm glad you questioned what your doc said and sought out advice. I can't IMAGINE anyone having surgery with this guy and thinking they can live (happily) like that after... Good luck! We're here to help!

Elfie, I think we'd be much better dates than a mother-in-law! Betsy, the fastest way to my heart is to compliment my boy...little monster looks just like my dad it's hysterical. Being the only grandchild and having poppa wrapped around his little finger just makes it all that more amusing. (and the pic is gorgeous!!!) Karen-that just makes it even more obvious you are totally hot...I mean, when they hit on you even when your husband is there...sheesh girl, you got it going on! I've been shopping in my closet...finding things that have been crammed in the back for years, it's ALMOST as good as buying new stuff. I'm going to have break down and buy some new drawers and bras...I spend all day hitching up my underwear (what can I say, I'm a classy girl) and the bras are hooked on as tight as they'll go but still sagging off, the going down a band size works for me, the going down a cup size SUCKS...but c'est la vie! Hope everyone had a great day, one day closer to Friday!!! Woohoo!!! (oh and fill #3 today, anxious to see how it goes) -
I'm perplexed about almost everything you said...my doc too pulls the stomach up and sutures it to itself to hold the band in place, helps decreased slippage and I THINK most docs do it this way now...however, it can still be reversed. I think anyone who tells you to live off of shakes and vitamins for all of eternity is not in touch with reality and would not be the doc for me. Or an ounce a meal...that's just not realistic. And I can't imagine healthy either..... I would ask for clarification and if that's what they are really expecting I would go elsewhere, convenient or not. We joke about my doc being a food nazi be even he permits 4 ounces at a time! Good luck with everything!
