Is It Normal?
SoccerMomma73 replied to Aprilsnewlife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You had a ton of IV fluids....chill...and don't weigh yourself for a week post-op. it takes at least that long to return to normal fluid balance. -
After a long and bumpy road and moderate success, I had my band removed August 1, after a severe slip. I was supposed to convert to a bypass at that time but I had so much damage and inflammation from the band that my doc decided I needed 6-12 months to heal before he could safely do the bypass. I did lose and keep off approx 50% of my excess weight with my band but I feel sooooo much better with that little beastie out! I believe any weight loss surgery has the potential to be successful as well as have the potential to fail. I'm choosing bypass simply because I am more comfortable with it than I am with the sleeve. Good luck with your decision!

Revision From Band To Rny And Why.
SoccerMomma73 replied to Vicki Loichinger's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good luck! I hope you get approved!!! In a sense, I guess I was lucky to have a slip. That made me officially a failed band and my insurance gave me no issues at all with approval. They're even basing my approval on my pre-band stats (my BMI is now <40 and I have no major comorbidities since my 70+ lb weight loss with the band). All in all, other than the actual healing from the slipped band and waiting 6 months to get RNY due to damage from the band, this whole thing has been pretty easy.... So keep your head up! And keep us updated!!!! -
So I made it a month without a band and no weight gain....was pretty much thinking I was a rock star!!!! I spent Labor Day weekend with my parents and gained 2 1/2 pounds....I've always said no one can be skinny around my mom's cooking!!!!! Darn that woman!!!!

Ditto that!!!

Question For Those Who Revised To Different Procedure...
SoccerMomma73 replied to MrsBerggren's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm 6 weeks in to my 6 month wait (due to stomach issues not insurance) so six weeks without the band and 5 months exactly til I get my bypass...,it's Driving me crazy!!!! Yes, it do seems like wasted time (logically in my care I know I need to heal, but still I want it now!!!!) good luck and I hope the rest of your journey is smooth. -
Why Do I Need So Many Unfills?
SoccerMomma73 replied to missthaaaang's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums

Yes, it can still slip, less liely, but still possible. I had almost no fluid when mine went crazy.

I had an urgent band removal, so much damage to my stomach that the band had to go. Depends though, sometimes they'll do an unfill and watch for a few weeks/months, sometimes they can surgically repair it, sometimes they remove it.

Just an FYI, I see a lot of people on here concerned about hair loss post-op and their new diet being responsible for it. While this is true in some cases, it's also really common to have hair loss for a few months following almost any surgical procedure. I had my band removed 5 weeks ago, am eating better than I have in 3 years and more protein than I've ever gotten and am shedding like its molting season!!!! Luckily I have enough hair to share :/
-
You sound very similar to how I was when I slipped!!!! Can't they do a barium swallow sooner than the endoscopy? That is way too long to wait! If nothing else, you need fluid removed until the testing can be done. Good luck!!!!!!

Me too, still a registered user and dude, I talk a LOT around here

Discomfort Around Band With Cold/sinus Imfection
SoccerMomma73 replied to JessRess's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The only thing that saved me when I had allergy or sinus stuff with my band was sipping hot tea....seemed to relax thing enough that I didn't get dehydrated. Good luck!!! -
Quick loss? Go on Protein shakes only and start walking 15 minutes twice a day and increase by 5 minutes weekly until you can do 60 minutes once a day then start pushing your speed. The shakes are low fat, low carb, low sodium, high protein and low cal as well...I think they're nasty as hell but when I really stick to them I lose 4-6 lbs a week and usually 10-12 the first week due to losing retained Fluid. Good luck!!!!

Talking To My Children About Lbs
SoccerMomma73 replied to ChicagoRose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I told my son who was 5 at the time that I was having something done to my stomach to help me be healthy (later, post-op and older, we had more detailed discussion). Like someone else above said, he told me he loved me and I was perfect like I was and I told him thank you but I needed to lose weight so I could be healthier and be around to watch him raise his kids some day. Initially he was worried about me having surgery so we really down played what was happening. I didn't tell him the morning I was actually having it done because I was worried he'd be fretting all day. My dad picked him up from school that day and told him the doctor had decided to go ahead and do my surgery, it was the last day before school break and he got a GI bug and puked all night so really didn't have the time or energy to worry! -
ROFLMAO, I love that you had the nerve to post this

Girly Question ......birth Control Choice?
SoccerMomma73 replied to Erin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The Nuva ring, goes around your cervix, non uterine exploration and the patient removes it and puts in a new one. It's pretty good stuff! -
Some are still doing revision at the time of removal but the latest studies are showing for people with a band complication (not just removal due to lack of weight loss or personal choice) have less complications I there is a 6-12 month healing phase post and removal before revision is done. Mine band came out 8/1/12, we were hoping for revision of removal but I had so much inflammation, swelling, scarring, etc, my surgeon didn't feel he could give me te best pouch at the time. And dammit, I I'm getting a pouch, I want the bed one!!!!

I'm on an iPad but on my screen there's a button on the top right corner that does it, it's an arrow inside a box but no clue what the tech term is or if it's an iPad only thing. Sorry!!
