Lapband removal/bypass insurance approval
SoccerMomma73 replied to amvg85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had issues with the band from the beginning. Chest pain, nausea, at various times couldn't eat for weeks and lived off shakes. Never reached goal but did Lise a lo and not regain the vast majority of it. I was just miserable. This past summer my band slipped and my stomach herniated up over it. Was living off slow sips of Clear liquids. Fun times! Sominehad to be urgently removed at that point. -

My doc uses HMR shakes. Since I've done this rodeo before, I've tried about everything and seem to dislike his less than I dislike others so I'll continue to use his. I am adding unjury chicken Soup when I think I'll scream if I drink another sickeningly sweet shake and want something a little salty.

emotional mess
SoccerMomma73 replied to laurelle1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Give yourself time and try not to stress. Your body has been through a huge physical stress. You are going through a huge emotional stressor. Fat holds estrogen so as you lose weight you've got some wild hormone surges that make things worse. Plus, if you're like many of us, food has been your best friend and companion for years....you can no longer turn there for comfort. It absolutely is a grieving process. -
Band to Bypass Scheduled for 1/14
SoccerMomma73 replied to tzbandtobypass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I soooo wish I could have done the revision at the same time!!!! I'd be six months down the road instead of having gained 20 lbs :/ however, as arrogant as my surgeon is, he's a damn good surgeon and I trust his judgement on this. Good luck tomorrow!!! Update us when you can!!!! -
MD Supervised Weight Loss?
SoccerMomma73 replied to mightyschratt's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Depends on many things...typically (but not always) the 6 month supervised diet requires monthly weigh ins and that your doc document that he discussed diet and exercise with you at that time. Some insurance companies just want documentation that you've had a long standing weight problem and that you have discussed it with a medical professional who provided Some type of counseling on weight loss. Good luck!!!! -
Fingers crossed!!!!!

Lose Skin After Surgery
SoccerMomma73 replied to Lovebone89's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My reply keeps getting eaten!!! So, a lot of variables in skin elasticity: genetics, age, how long you were obese, how much extra weight you have, where you carry your weight, general overall health. Keep your skin well hydrated, tone the underlying muscle as much as you can, pray, be patient.... In the end loose skin, other than rashes and such, won't hurt you. Every day you're obese is having a drastic impact on your health. -

Go to a movie or on a plane without worrying I'm spilling over and rubbing elbows with the stranger next to me. Have a guy flirt with me and not think there must be something wrong with him or that he's just messing with the fat girl. NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN HEAR 'but you have such a pretty face....if you'd only lose....' OY.

What to bring to the hospital?
SoccerMomma73 replied to al70switz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hospitals are noisy and restless!!!!! Don't over pack, you won't be doing much but sleeping and walking. My list of must haves: chap stick, phone and charger (and iPad so I can play with you guys!!!), slippers or socks with grippy things on the bottom for walking, toothbrush and paste, hairbrush, MY OWN PILLOW!!!! (Hospital pillows suck and having a pillow to hug on the drive home rocks!!!). I wear comfy clothes that I can wear home as well, don't worry about pajamas, wear the hospital gown so your stuff doesn't get nasty!!!! I think that's all!!!! Maybe a book but I never end up reading em while I'm there!!! Good luck!! -
Help, insurance problem :(
SoccerMomma73 replied to thaskett's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your insurance company and ask for a written copy of their criteria.....a LOT of insurance companies are changing from 6 months of supervised weight loss to a couple years of documented obesity (you get weighed every time you go to the doctors office so it'll be documented). Some will even take documented proof I'd weight watchers and such. Good luck! Don't give up!!!! Also $165 a visit with no labs, etc is a bit much!!! -
