Success despite a Stall!
nurselroy replied to zrfhnbc's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Wow, you look great! Thanks for posting, you are an inspiration. I am not yet banded, but am scheduled for surgery on March 18 and I'm just petrified of failure right now. I'm reading my binder daily on diet restrictions and instructions I will be going by so that I can be as successful as possible. -
I had a moment today!

Congratulations! You are an inspiration and I can't wait to get to where you are. My surgery is coming up March 18 and I look forward to these types of successes. -
Pre-op diet beverage question
nurselroy replied to mimi368's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that's a pretty severe diet! My pre-op diet is all liquids, but I can drink anything and have to get in 60 grams of protein and at least 300 calories a day. -
Getting prepared.....an update
nurselroy replied to Megg40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm trying to get ready as well. My surgery is Mar 18 and my pre-op diet starts Mar 11. I am also doing Protein shakes now and trying to increase my activity so I can be ready for surgery. I need to work on the Water intake, though. I have a pre-op class on Tues that lasts 4 hours and will cover the pre and post-op diet again in more detail, excerise, and the whole hospitalization (I have to stay overnight). I am getting anxious and just hoping nothing comes up to delay the surgery. I started this whole process back in Oct with the first seminar and have finally made it to this point. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis during this time and am just hoping that doesn't cause any problems though when I talked to the bariatric program coordinator, she didn't forsee any issues with that. Just so nerve wracked right now! Good luck and keep us posted on here. -
I did the initial seminar in October 2009, had my consultation in November, and because of the holidays, was not able to finish all my pre-op appts until January. These were all requirements of the bariatric program at the hospital where I'm having my surgery and after I completed all these requirements, they submitted my stuff to the insurance company who approved within a day and I got my date a couple days later and that is March 18. So all in all, it took about 5 months. But, if I would have went elsewhere like a coworker of mine did, I could have had the surgery long ago because the program requirements are different for different surgeons in my area. I'm glad for the wait though because I have had time to make sure this is really what I want, and even now, I'm having some second thoughts just because I've never had surger and despite how minor it may be, its still a major event in my mind.

Did anyone have to convince their Doctor that you needed the Lap band procedure?
nurselroy replied to ShellieBell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have to convince my PCP. Actually, I did not tell her; the largest healthcare system in this area uses an electronic medical record that many of the physicians in the area have access to in their offices. So, she actually found out by looking through my chart while I was seeing her for another reason and we discussed it. This is also the way my rheumatologist (I have rheumatoid arthritis) found out. While neither of them said anything outright, I could tell that neither of them agreed with having weight loss surgery. I could tell that they believed more in good old-fashioned diet and excersise, despite the fact that I have been unable to lose and maintain a significant loss in this manner. Both of these doctors have suggested trying to change my eating and exercise more; basically give it another try before having surgery. I actually have changed my eating habits, but am really just now able to increase my activity since my RA is now better controlled (I was in horrible pain before and many days could barely walk after work). They have both cleared me medically for the surgery, though, but just don't agree with WLS in general. -
