12/28/2009 Lapband surgery. My highest weight was 365 lbs., I was 357 lbs when I got my lapband. I got down to 322 lbs. The lowest weight achieved from the lapband. My lapband slipped and no longer worked. I had GERD, got gallstones, then was diagnosed as Diabetic. My bariatric surgeon and I spoke two years ago, and he stated that if I did not lost weight in two years, I needed to consider the gastric sleeve. I ended up setting up surgery to remove my band, my gallbladder and repairing a hiatal hernia.
Once my insurance was approved for surgery, and was scheduled I went in for a preop visit. Being newly diagnosed as diabetic, I was really worried. I decided to add the gastric sleeve to my surgery list. My surgery date was set for July 1, 2015. I have to cash pay for my gastric sleeve, pay for two nights in the hospital and pay 45 minutes of anesthesia in cash! My insurance does not cover any Bariatric Services. They agreed to pay for the band removal because of the pain it was causing me. I had to have the esophageal scope and biopsies too before they would approve the band removal.
So my surgery is in 4 days. I'm nervous, because I am worried I will fail again at losing weight. This is my last chance. I have been obese my entire life, and I'm ready to be healthy!
I'll be adding to my story after surgery! Good Luck Everyone with your journey!
