  1. I found this to be very true when I lost 80 pounds 12 years ago on Phen Fen.... Everyone said I was Not the same jolly person they knew blah blah blah.... Prior to the weight loss I was the one who cooked for and fed everyone and afterwards, I stopped because I didn't want food to be the main focus of my day all the time.... And Yeah, my attitude did change as well. I had a ton of self confidance and was the mealy mouthed let everyone walk over me person I was before.... I guess people didn't like me standing up for myself and saying no to their millions of requests to babysit and host every get together.... I was no longer the Jolly floormat and I was happy... And that made them dislike me... But my happiness faded as my marriage got WORSE due to my weight loss and my husbands own low self confidance and self esteem issues so I put the weight back on and became the floormat again... This time, I've ditched the husband and those old friends and am surrounding myself with positive people and again finding my self confidance...

    weight loss programs

I have not yet, but I saw NUtri System at costco for like $258.00 for 30 days worth of meals... I have considered trying that just to learn portion control and to boost my weight loss... If I get the 6-month position to go to NYC for my company, I may just do it since I won't have to cook for or feed anyone else... Thats a great bargain for a month of food for one person.... But kinda spendy if you still have to buy food for a family....

    Bummer...

I make "eggplant" Lasagna and I just replace the noodles with Eggplant... With all the sauce, meat and cheese you can barely taste the eggplant if you don't really like it too much... Another version I have is I but the Shredded carrots and brocolli at the grocery store and I layer that in place of the noodles... Either way its yummy and you feel like your eating real lasagna.... Side note, I saute the Eggplant in a little olive oil... I used to cut it in circles but that took forever frying two circles at a time and used more oil... Now I just diced it up into chunks and I saute it all in one batch, then layer it... Or you can mix it with the meat and sause and top it with Cottage cheese, more sauce then mozzerella cheese then bake it...
  5. I remember a few weeks ago we were talking about hummus on another thread and I was looking for a good recipe.... Well, I found several recipes and I pulled out a few ingredients from the various ones and I made my own.... It turned out fantastic.... Ingredients 1 (16 ounce) can garbanzo Beans, drained and rinsed/or my preference is 1 1/2 cups dry beans soaked and cooked according to package directions... 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 medium red bell pepper, cut into 1/2 inch pieces and sautéed 1 tablespoon tahini paste or in a pinch creamy Peanut Butter or cashew or almond butter will work too... 1 fresh lime, juiced (1 to 2 Tbsps lime juice) 1 1/2 tablespoons Water (Or more) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon Minced garlic Directions 1. In a food processor or blender, mix the garbanzo beans, olive oil, sauteed red bell pepper, tahini, lime juice, salt, black pepper, and garlic. Blend until smooth adding water as needed to get desired consistancy. Serve with Pita chips or warm pita bread or as a dip for fresh vegetables…. Can also be used as a spread in Sandwiches’ and wraps… Or 1/4 to 1/2 cup just eaten as is…

    Ideas? Advice?

I've use my George Foreman Mean Fat reducing grilling machine and almost all that I cook in it comes out tender perfection.... It cooks both sides at once so you only need a few minutes. 1 chicken breast takes about 3-5 minutes. Most chicken breasts are too thick for me so I slice them into two thinner pieces... So 3 minutes is about perfect... Thick ones maybe 5-7 minutes... Boneless skinless chicken Thigh meat takes about 8 minutes... Lamb Chops the same... Steaks take about 7 Minutes... Mostly it depends on how thick of a cut you are cooking but the cooking time is pretty fast and it makes everything so juicy delicious... Now I MUST learn to cut out the side dishes of Pasta, Rice, stuffing and potatoes!!!! Those are the death of me....

    Wowza! Restriction is great!

WOW. Congratulations... YOU GO GIRL!!! I am hoping to be there with you on being at my sweet spot after my fill tomorrow... Like you, I have problems with being tight in the mornings so I have to do a Protein shake or Runny oatmeal or cream of wheat however, since I go back to work finally on Thursday, I think I'll start doing the shakes each morning anyhow... I am hoping to kick start my weight loss since I have been plateaued for the last 3 weeks since my second fill... I had bypassed a third fill because I thought I was too tight... But I am still able to eat more than I "think" I should be able to... Even with all the things that get stuck... I still seem to eat too much...

    Totally devastated

you see, its because I know people can make insensitive remarks and have higher expectaions for us that I am choosing to not tell anyone.... My feelings get hurt MEGA easy.... ANd I don't feel it is my duty to always be educating everyone I talk to about How/Why banding works or not.... I think you have done fabulous and you have nothing to be ashamed or disappointed in yourself about.... I know we fight to lose every single pound... It is not easy... It is not magic... BUT in the long run, it is WORTH it.... <<Hugs>> From Mama Jen
  9. OMG I am so glad you posted this... I have been seeing the $1.29 Filet o Fish Friday signs at the Mc Donalds by my house and was wanting to go get one for about 2 weeks now.... I think you just cured my craving.... Either that Or I'll peel off the bun and feed it to the birds.... But Since I make fresh fish so often what would be the point of that.... I'm kinda new to eating fish, maybe two years or less, and always had this fear of getting it done enough and so have always erred on the side of overdone... Now, I'm learning how to get it not so over done as I have discovered it is much more tender and flakier and easier to eat... Haha... I thought it was supposed to be tough and dry... Haha... And Bless my boyfriends heart, he never complains so I didn't know......

    My Fabulous New Hummus Recipe

Just a note to let you know that the Hummus is even better the second day after the flavors have had time to meld together... The garlic is really noticable now... Yesterday, I was debating adding more but now I am glad I didn't... 2 heaping teaspoon fulls of hummus microwaved for about 20-30 seconds brings out the flavor and warms it just right or its also delicious cold or room temp if your packing it to work for your lunch... I went out and bought Garlic Pita Crisps at costco and Wheat Thins and some Crunchmaster Multi grain crackers... The crackers all average about 2-3 grams of Protein for a decent quantity and I've discovered about half a serving is MORE than enough... Spread some hummus on them and it is very filling and satisfying.... Toss in one single serve Cheddar or Mozzerella cheese Stick and it makes a great lunch... According to the packages this is based on ONE serving: 6 Bagel chips has 3 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat, 130 Calories... 16 original Wheat Thins has 2 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat, 140 calories... 15 Mutigrain Crackers 3 Grams of Protein, 5 grams of fat and 140 calories... I hope everyone enjoys this as much as we have.... :frown:

    My Fabulous New Hummus Recipe

Ohhh and for those who like to kick it up a notch, you can spice it up by adding Jalepenos or Crushed red pepper or Curry or Cayan Pepper.... Etc.... It's really a very easy to modify and change or add to recipe....
  12. Haha I can so relate to you... Well, I keep my kitchen and bathroom clean and make my bed etc... But I don't do spring cleaning type of stuff like cleaning out closets and dusting all the nick nacks... This is my boyfriends house and his wife collected a lot of cute things (She passed away 7 years ago), and he won't part with them or let me put them away so there they sit collecting dust... I'll hire a cleaning company before I try and tackle all this stuff that is not mine... LOL... I work from home, so I have that to occupy me for a few hours, then I go visit my grandkids and play with them, or watch Law and order or Criminal minds in the evening with my BF.... Before October 25th when I fell down in the mountains and blew out my knee we did a lot of hiking together and I look forward to being able to resume that when my Dr and Physical Therapists say I'm good to go....

    do u?

I have heard many reasons for not drinking soda pop... I have also read about a lot of people who do... I'm not a soda drinker by nature... I prefer milk and Water and since being banded Crystal light... HOWEVER, with that being said, When I am at the movies with friends I love a little popcorn and soda.... I will take a small 1 cup size bowl and limit myself to that much popcorn and I usually take one or two swigs of my friends or daughters soda... (I sneak in my own crystal light or Vitamin water and drink that as my main drink)... I have done that twice and I didn't feel gassy or bloated or pain... But, because I am not a soda drinker, I can stop at one or two drinks and not go crazy hog wild with it.... Don't ask me about chocolate though because thats a whole NOTHER story... haha....
  14. I'm gonna guess that you could pack them in your checked baggage... My Question is, where can you buy just one or two. I'd like to try them before investing in a case... I see all kinds of things like in 7-11 and gas stations etc but never sure what they are..

Question about Post Op Followup from your Dr.

I met my Dr/surgeon on November 23rd... Saw him again on November 28th when he did the pre op thing (The camera down the throat to look in my tummy thing...)... Then He talked to me before and after my Surgery on december 4th and called me on the evening of the 5th to see how I was feeling... I had my first follow up visit with him on Dec 7th and he does all the fills and follow ups himself so I have seen him 3 or 4 more times since the actual Surgery... He is very quick and efficient... And his staff is very good at taking my calls and answering my questions if I ever call the office... My last visit, I didn't think I needed a fill yet so he said okay, just give my office a call when you feel like you need one and so I called on Friday and have an appointment coming up on Tuesday...
  16. Even though I don't "think" I am eating a lot, I am having more carbs than protein becasue I'm so afraid of getting stuck.... I Have had a lot of beans though but very little Chicken and fish. My Dr. Doesn't do Floro... What exactly is that? I see My Dr. On Tuesday and we'll see how it goes then... For now, I have to make concious efforts to make wiser food choices and stay away from easy carbs and slider foods... I'm going out of town tonight to celebrate a birthday at the W Hotel in Westwood... I will refrain from Birthday cake and limit myself to 2 drinks... Either wine or my other stand by of cranberry juice with Malibu Rum... Tomorrow will be a day on the beach and I'm sure I can find some delicious fish to partake in.... Have a good weekend and thanks for checking in on me.... I'm glad you got your fill. Has it made a difference? Have you gotten stuck on anything? I now have hope at least. LOL...

    Full liquid ??

My Friends don't know I am banded and took me out to dinner at Claim Jumpers for My birthday 2 weeks after I was banded... To top it off, I was due to have Knee replacement surgery the following day... So I used that as my excuse to pass on "chew" food and I ordered the French Onion Soup with No onions... Just the broth... It was so rich and delicious! (I did sneak 2 packs of crackers all crumbled up into it) I was always afraid "onion" soup would be gross but it didn't taste like a bunch of boiled onions like I thought it would.... Hehe... At IHOP and Dennys, I ordered the chicken noodle soup and I asked for only the broth... Most places are happy to accomodate those kinds of requests....
  18. Hi Leigha... It's going... Kinda disappointed in myself... I haven't lose a single pound in two weeks now...

Not sure if my last fill was too much and I am relying on too many slider foods or if I need another fill to stop me from eating too much.... It's all so confusing...

The Good News is I went out and bought a new pair of jeans today one size smaller so I will be motivated to fit in them good and not like a stuffed sausage, by the time the Easter Challenge ends.... Haha...

How are you doing? I have browsed the boards a little here and there but have been too busy to look at all the new posts and see what everyone is up to... Jennifer

    How long off work?

I had Reconstructive Knee Surgry less than two weeks after I was Banded, so I am still off (well, not off really because my company gave me a laptop to work from home). If I had to go back after being banded, I would definately have needed two weeks. I have a desk job and sitting made it feel worse than being up and moving around... Working from home allows me to get up and move around and walk whenever I need to... I finally had to get a girdle around the third week and wear that for a couple of weeks and I felt much better! Each person is different so if you are only planning a few days, have a back up plan in your mind just in case... Something like half days or what not because you never know... Besides the pain you have the feeling weak factor from not being back on full foods yet... The broths/clear liquid portion was 5 days for me and theres no way I would have felt like working during that phase... It's not that I was hungry, because I wasn't but I still didn't have full energy.... Hope all my Ramblings make sense... I'm in a hurry since I have to go see my Orthopedic Surgeon now.... See ya all later and good luck with your Surgery Dear....
  20. Banded Dec 4th and have only lost 24 pounds... However, I fell off the wagon with my TOM and was craving chocolate so I made a batch of fudge for my BF and ate about 2 pieces a day for the last 4 days... Today is a new day to start with a clean slate...

    Do you miss eating?

I don't miss eating because I still do it every single day... I just make sure to have a much smaller portion... And If I'm not careful, it comes back up which is a quick reminder... ohhh and I had a zero pound loss this week becasue I have been indulging in a couple of peices of fudge every day since Thursday.. It was my TOM so I was craving chocolate and I made the fudge for my BF for Valentines day... Today, is the start of a new day and a new week... I am back on track...

    Easter Challenge Anyone?

Gaaacccckkkk! I am exactly the same as last week 189... I better ramp up my excercise this week and get back on track with my eating... I know what my downfall was... I made fudge for my man on Thursday for Valentines day and have been eating about two pieces a day since... Okay, So That was also the day I Started my Cycle so I WAS TOTALLY craving chocolate... I'm at the end of my cycle so I can get back on track from that now too... This was the first time I have craved Chocolate during that (TOM) in about 4 months so I guess I can't complain too loudly.... This week I will try to make up and lose two weeks worth... So 3 pounds, so Buh Bye to my body!
  23. I was terrified right before my first fill and almost cancelled and rescheduled since I had worked myslef up into such a state of panic... Then after the Dr. Swabbed the area with an alcohol pad, I actually reached down and put my hand on the spot and said "wait... I'm not ready" and he was peeved and had to swab me again... After that he made me put my hands under the back of my head... LOL... Turns out it wasn't that bad after all.... He does not numb since that would require two shots and I'm glad of it... Once is enough... He also does not do Floro... It takes about 30 seconds and I'm outta there... Very easy with minimal discomfort... Afterwards, the nurse makes us drink a 4 oz cup of water to make sure we can swallow... This gives us about 15-30 minutes to sit and chat with Prospective and current LB patients in the waiting room and answer questions and just share our story or advice.... It's like an unofficial therapy group, which I like since I have only told 4 people whom I don't even see often... It's my opportunity to talk talk talk about it....

    too much water?

I looked it up online... It's Not How Much You Drink, It's How Fast You Drink It! The kidneys of a healthy adult can process fifteen liters of Water a day! You are unlikely to suffer from water intoxication, even if you drink a lot of water, as long as you drink over time as opposed to intaking an enormous volume at one time. As a general guideline, most adults need about three quarts of Fluid each day. Much of that water comes from food, so 8-12 eight ounce glasses a day is a common recommended intake. You may need more water if the weather is very warm or very dry, if you are exercising, or if you are taking certain medications. The bottom line is this: it's possible to drink too much water, but unless you are running a marathon or an infant, water intoxication is a very uncommon condition.
