I am having problems with my band and no one knows what is happening, so I thought I should call Allergan. They are SO not interested in helping me. But I get the impression that my surgeons in Canada (not in Mexico) and the company are hoping that my band will come out so they can sell me another one. They told me that there is no warranty on the lap band and even if they find out that it is the lap band that is defective, that is not their problem. They also said that because I am not in the US, there is nothing they can do. Are they allowed to sell a defective lapband and not have any responsibility?

Hi everyone, I am in a situation. It looks like my band has slipped, although I haven't had it confirmed yet. Because I did my lap band surgery in Mexico, I have a private fill doctor who tole me basically that medicare cannot do anything (even if I am rapidly losing weight because I cannot eat anything) because it was done in Mexico. My choices are to go back to Mexico and pay a lot of money or to stay in Canada and pay close to 20 grand Canadian. Does anybody know if that is true?

Too tight all of a sudden with nothing going down. But actually, it is not a slip. It is something else.

It looks like my Canada doctors are very adament on taking it out. I will wait to go to Mexico where they have more experience with the band. I am sure that you can get a US doctor. Cash seems to work everywhere in the world, fortunately or unfortunately.

When I got my lap band over a year ago, it was heavenly. I really loved the satiaty and didn't miss eating larger portions. I was quite happy. But then a few monts ago, it got harder and harder to eat solids. Now, I put things in the blender with some broth so that it liquifies and stick to juices and Soups. I also get reflux at night which makes it hard to sleep. Now, my lap band is very tight, yet there is no saline to remove. The saline was removed several months ago, but it didn't make anything better. There has not been a slip according to radiography. According to gastroscopy, the entrance to the stomach is extremely narrow. There are many possible causes, but the band being defective is definitely one possibility. I do not know what to do and am scared that everyone wants to remove the band. I also do not want to have two surgeries, one to take out the band. And then return to normal while I fight with everyone and raise tons of money to try and put a new one in.

The manufacturer of the lap band, Allergan, does not take any responsability for bands if they are defective. Shame.

Thanks for all that wonderful advice. I ended up in a lap band doctor office quite by accident. It is not a slip, but nothing is getting through and they don't know why. So, they will have to open me up to find out what is wrong. And they say, that probably means that they will remove it. I am hoping that they won't because I cannot live without my lap band. I don't have to fly back to Mexico, but I might lose my lap band.

Wow. All I can say is that you have a wonderful boyfriend. Keep him. Most of the men in my life really wish I were a lot skinnier and that I was a lot hotter and tell me as much. Even after I have lost weight, they still remind me how much more I have to lose and how much plastic surgery I would need to be moderately acceptable. If I want to hear how I am beautiful no matter what, I listen to my women friends.

Hi everyone, I am a very discreet bandster. While I like my band, there are times when I pb and throw up and cannot control it. I prefer not to throw up in public, but sometimes I cannot help it especially when I am travelling and don't know where the bathrooms are. In one case, I was on a trip waiting for the bathroom, and threw up in the sink while waiting for the bathroom to be free. In another case, I threw up in a garbage can on a very public street. Believe it or not, most people do not even notice. It is pb so it doesn't smell and I try to hide it. But, I think there must be a better way. I especially hate it when I eat out and people try to rush me while I am eating. I know that I am slow, but really. Or when I just chewing very slowly and in the bite the waitress asks me how the food is. I then am obligated to swallow quickly and respond dearly hoping for my life that the food will not get stuck. Or the hurt person comes along when I have eaten just a quarter of the meal saying "But you did not like it?" Or how do you throw up quietly and quickly in a public bathroom without having to keep leaving and coming back and leaving because you haven't been able to get it out? Any tips on how not to be a social pariah while still not compromising ourselves?

Things going from Not Great to Decidedly Bad

If you are in Canada, there are several ways to get seen fast. 1) Show up in the emergency room, and then they will refer you quicker. 2) You can choose to go to a private doctor for the lap band, pay for it, and then they will see you when they have an opening.
