  1. I had lab band surgery on 2/11/10, I feel really bad, I can' hold down any liquid everytime I drink water or tea, a big gulp of foam comes back up. I spoke to my surgeon twice and he says if I still can't keep anything down by tomorrow then I will have to go back to the hospital to have an IV and an uppr GI done. I really did not think this was going to be so bad, if I knew it was going to be this bad I would not have had the surgery, THIS IS HELL!!!!!!!! I wish I could just keep some water down.
  2. They let me out of the hospital because I was drinking water and crystal light fine the day of surgery and the morning after, but last night everything I would sip would come back up with a lot of foam and spit. I know this sounds gross, I am sorry. The bloating has gone down a lot, and I don't feel so gasy, , but I just wish I could drink something and keep it down. The doctor says it might be the swelling that might be preventing me from keeping liquids down. I also don't have a problem burping. Thanks for the replies.
  3. I was banded yesterday around 6:00 p.m. I am already home, but I feel horrible. I had a hiatal hernia repair with the band surgery. I think that maybe I feel so bad because of the hiatal hernia repair. I have so much gas, I have been walking and taking gas x but the gas does not go away. I feel so bad, I did not think it was going to be so painful. Did everyone else have a pain experience?
  4. I just had the lap band surgery yesterday, this morning I was holding down fluid fine, but I find that tonight I can' t hold down fluid, I am spitting up what looks like foam. I soon as I drink water or tea, I feel like spitting it back up. I don't know if it is the gas that is making it hard to hold stuff down.
  5. I will be having my lap band surgery tomorrow, I am freaking out, though I am not letting anyone in my family know that I am freaking out. I am so scared that something will happen to me. I have two little girls that need me. The anesthesia is what I am most afraid of. Wish me luck, I want this part to be over with already. I can't wait to have my surgery and be back home. I will post as soon as I am back home.
  6. I was wondering if after anyone has experienced a visible port after losing all the weight. I really would not want my port to be visible when I wear a bathing suit, and also I think it looks kind of creepy.
  7. My primary doctor says she does not want to clear me for the lap band surgery because since I am not going through my insurance, then she said she has nothing to do with the surgery and that I should tell my surgeon to find a doctor to clear me. I am healthy, I do not have any co-morbidities. I spoke to my surgeon and he said that if my labs are within the gneral anesthesia guidelines, then I would not need a doctor to clear me. Has anyone had surgery without clearance from their primary? My surgery is scheduled for next week, I really hope I don't have a problem with right before surgery.

I am getting banded on Feb. 11. I really hope I can have as much progress as you have in only 4.5 months. You must be tall because you look thin and your still in the 200's. Continue your sucess.
  9. I will be self pay and the whole process was less than a month. My surgery date is Feb. 11, 2010, I am so excited.

    Opinions

I would probably not do anything, but if I did I would not go for the gastric bypass, I would do the gastric sleeve. The gastric bypass is such a drastic procedure, and you don't have that much weight to lose anyway. I wish you luck on your decison, keep us posted.
  11. Your post actually had me go online and check if my surgeon has any malpractice suits. I found that he has two malpractice suits, I checked in the states health department website, and that website had the option to be redirected to another site that would tell you exactly what the doctor was being sued for and the amount that he paid; it gave me very detailed information. My surgery is on Feb. 11, 2010, I am a little bit worried after I found out this new info. I am not going to back down now. I will remain positive. Good luck to you. I think there are a large percent of surgeons that have suits against them. Remember that bariatric surgeons also perform gastric bypass surgeries, and gastric bypass has a high mortality rate. When someone dies from a surgery, it is likely that their loved ones file a suit against the surgeon, and many people die from gastric bypass.

Wow you look great, what is your current weight? Are you at goal, you look like you are. You must be so happy. Have you had any complications?
  13. Everytime I go on this lap band forum I feel that I read another post of yet another person that is not happy with their results. There are a lot of people that are not losing and there are a lot of people that are gaining. Some people are only losing very little. People say that this is a tool and that you need to watch you diet and exercise. If we could watch are diet and exercise consistantly, then I think we would not need the lap band. I had the impression that the band would totally prevent us from overeating, which in turn will make us lose weight. I am so worried I hope I have made the right choice. My surgery is in a week in a half. Wish me luck.
  14. Congrats on your surgery date. I am also being banded on Feb. 11, 2010, I am excited yet nervous. This is a very good forum, if you want to learn about the pros and cons of the lap band. I joined about two months ago, and I feel that I have learned a lot. I think we will not know exactly how the lap band works, until we actually have the band. I wish you luck, and maybe we can keep each other updated throughout our journey.
  15. I am in the process of getting my lap band. I have an appt. with my surgeon this week. I have found that I am eating constantly, because I know that I will not be albe to eat much after I have the lap band. I find that I spend the entire day eating. Has anyone else had this problem?
  16. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you. I finally have my date, and my pre-op testing is next week, I hope everything goes well. I have had many sleepless nights. My advice is just relax, and whatever is meant to be will be; remain positive. I really wish you luck on this journey. Please keep us posted. I hope everything goes fast and smoothly for you.
  17. OMG!!!!!!! Congrats. I went to my surgeon today, I am also scheduled for Feb. 11, 2010, I am so excieted, yet nervous. I have two small children and I am a bit nervous about the general anesthesia because they need their mommy, but I think everything will be okay. We only have two weeks to go;yay!!!!!!..... I know I can't think about anything else..... Hopefully we can share our journey throughout this post. I wish you all the luck.
  18. I have been reading several post on this website, that indicate that a lot of people really don't lose that much weight with the lap band. Some people have no lost any weight, others have only lost a bit in the beggining and then stop losing, and others have even continued to gain. Almost everyday, there is another post stating that they are having problems with weight loss. I am worried that I will spend all this money (self pay) and this will be another failed attempt to lose weight. I can't afford to fail at this. Is there a lot of people that do not reach there goal? I try and focus on the positive results, and I have seen post where people have lost a lot of weight and look amazing, but for every, one sucessful weight loss post, there are three or four unsucessful weight lost post. Please Help with any advice or info.
  19. I am having lap band surgery on Feb. 11, 2010. I have a get together this weekend, it is around three weeks from surgery, would it be okay, if I had some beers and or wine. I wanted to know how long does the doctor usually say you must stop alcohol before surgery.

    Primary Care Physician??

So, you did not need a clearance letter from your PCP; your surgeon was the one that cleared you from surgery? My surgery is scheduled for 2/11/2010, I am afraid everything will not be in order by then.
  21. My lap band surgery is scheduled 3 weeks from now. I have been reading some post, and I am really scared. I read that the band can slip and you can be strangled to death; WOW, this is really scary. Can the band actually slip up and cause you stop breathing? I have already been so nervous about the operation, and now I am even more stressed out. Please Help.
  22. I recently had an upper GI and they found a hiatal hernia. I will be paying for the lap band surgery (self pay). I don't think the surgeon that will be doing my lap band is in my insurance network, so they will not cover for him to fix the hiatal hernia. My question is, is it necessary to fix the hiatal hernia in order to get the lap band surgery, or can I do the surgery and level the hernia the way it is? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Hiatal Hernia ????????

I really appreciate all your responses, I have being going crazy. I am still waiting for a call back from my doctors surgery coordinator, she said she would let me know if it would be an additional cost. If the cost is much more I would not be able to do the surgery, because I am already paying so much for the surgery. My insurance will not cover the hernia repair with the surgeon I am having surgery with.
  24. I feel your pain, I had my upper GI on Friday, and the tech said he saw a hiatal hernia. I don't know if the hiatal hernia repair will be included in the price for the lap band surgery ( i will be self pay). I am so stressed out, this is such a long process, and I find that there are so many up and down, one minute I think I am having the surgery, and the next minute I feel that some pre-op test will prevent me from having the surgery. I really wish you the best.

    Hiatal Hernia ????????

Humming bird, you don't know how much I appreciate your response. I have been extremly worried because I thought it was going to cost me a lot more. I called my surgeons offfice today and they said they needed to contact the hospital and check if there would be any additional cost. I don't know why there would be any additional cost, I am already paying for a 23 hr. stay at the hospital and everything that comes with that. You have made me feel a lot better, I was getting so disappointed, because I am already paying 16,500 for the surgery; I don't have anymore.
