Hi Meriteri-tks for the encouragement-I am leary of going to a military base to have the surgery esp. the one that is close to us-I heard horror stories-1 military spouse my husband knows had her surgery done at that base & has had complications on and off for bout 2 yrs now & I heard bout some other similar stories-its my understanding that unless the surgeon has performed at least 100 sleeve surgeries than you shouldn't consider him-don't know how well I'll do w/trying to lose weight while I wait for the sleeve to be approved by tricare as I haven't been able to lose the weight b4-I've gained bout 75 lbs since I turned 42 & I'm turning 50 next mo-I need to lose bout 140lbs-but, Im positive I should not go thru with the bypass-so, I'll either have to wait for tricare to cover the sleeve or convince my hubby to self-pay for it - have a great day ;0)

Hi Cajun, I came across ur profile & was immediately drawn to u-I was born & raised n New Iberia , La-I now live in Ca due to marry'g a military man, something I said I'd never do-I also said I'd never b/c very overweight-havn't been home n 2 yrs-I miss my hometown, family, friends so much-I was approved for gastric bypass & was waiting on a surgery date when I woke up 1 day a week ago & just knew that the bypass was not for me-my ins. as of yet doesn't cover the sleeve-I found out that 5 major ins. co's now cover it so Im going to wait for my ins. co. to cover it-n the meantime I decided to act like I was still waiting on surgery date & follow a high-protein replacement meal regiment-I still had to lose 14 lbs b/4 getting surgery so hopefully I'll b able to stick to this new way of eating-my surgeon gave me a goal weight loss of 140 lbs so I'm trying not to look at that whole amount & just give myself '20 lb' goal losses-I pray ur doing well-take care!

Hello bayougirl-as soon as I saw your username I just knew you had to be from Louisiana-I am from south Louisiana also-born and raised there for 47 years-I'm on my 2nd marriage-married a man who's in the Coast Guard and now live in California-have been here for 1 yr & 7 months-I haven't had the lapband surgery yet-my 1st appt w/surgeon is Jan. 8th-it's a little nerveracking thinking about having this done so far away from family & friends & with my hubby out to sea 1-2 weeks of every mon.-my stepdaughter,15, lives with us which helps take some of the edge out of it-she'll be visiting her mother in LA the 2nd half of this coming summer but by then I will be about 5 months post op so I should be in pretty good shape by then-one of my main concern's is the possible slippage of the lap band-the other concern is being able to stick to a liq. diet b4 surgery-any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated-hope to hear from you-congrat's on your progress so far
