who supports right to choose
LeighaMason replied to 396power's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Patty, I am glad your life worked out so well for you, I was also very poor and I have worked my way up and now I too live a very comfortable life due to my own hard work. However, I am qualified to say there are worse things than being aborted. I have 1 child who I hold very dear, but if I knew that he would have the childhood I did I would have aborted him. Period. I will not put the details of my early life on this public forum but feel free to ask this question to any first responder. Have you ever looked at a child in a situation and said to yourself "This child would be better off if he/she had been aborted."? Every policeman, fireman, social worker that I know will admit to thinking this at one time or another. -
"From a Christian's perspective, conservatives are more moral than liberals." In case you dont recoginise this quote, it was from you. 01-14-2010, 10:48 AM Also: "It is a clarion call, a flashing neon sign warning people that liberalism is the opposition party to God." Ann Coulter

That not what I said, I asked what is your plan to take care of them? -
I have a few questions, bear with me... :(
LeighaMason replied to NYC_gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe he is thinking, erase the board and start over, maybe the whole, liquid, mushie, etc progression is as much for your mind as for your stomach. Maybe he is thinking you personally have a stomach that is prone to swelling so he wants you to be really slow to reintroduce food so you don't end up in the same situation as last time. He knows something that is making him one of the most sought after bariatric surgeons, so I am going to suggest listening to him. (I know 3 weeks of this sucks so feel free to throw things, kick, yell, complain, etc) -

Here is my question for the Republican party. There have been at least 800,000 abortions each year since 1969 (when www.cdc.gov started tracking these things), at least 52% of these women live below poverty level (also found on www.cdc.gov). If I understand correctly your party is not in favor on any financial government assistance, so my question is: What happens to these babies once they are born? That is 400,000 babies per year on Medicaid, food stamps, HUD, etc. I am not smart enough to do the math but how many more is that to help? How are we going to afford that? Or are they just "precious souls" when they are in the mother then they are "a drain on the economy" when we have to help raise them? I would love for our country to no longer need abortion. But just to stop giving abortions is simplistic and unrealistic. -
PBing much too often!!
LeighaMason replied to Agnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK I need you to be more specific. Do you have slimeing? Do you actually throw up food or throw up slime? Does plain burping help the pain? Is it just a burp with a little something in the back of your throat? Sorry for the graphic nature but I think PBing could mean different things to different people. -
Has anyone besides me questioned if we are reverting to a feudal society with the corporations being the manor lords this time? We have the Republican party who is conducting a huge media campaign to convince average people to vote against their own interests, and its working. The campaign is so large that instead of buying time on existing stations they have launched the Fox Broadcasting Company, not just the news channel but a whole bunch of channels to entertain us with trivial entertainment to keep us from doing any thinking for ourselves. Look at the lineup on Fox's channels and see the list of pure drivel that is offered. First they use religion, "Liberals don't believe in god so if you want to go to heaven you have to be a Republican!" (This tactic was also used during the middle ages to keep people on the feudal farm.) Next, its immigration, makes it us against them. Finally, tie them to their jobs with corporate health care. Large corporations should be jumping for joy for the government to provide health care to workers. Large corporations pay billions of dollars every year to provide health care for workers, if it was available from a public option the corporations could keep that money as profit. So if they could keep billions as profit why do they want to keep providing health care? Because it gives them indentured servants. If you have a child with a health problem you cannot buy health care, therefor you have to keep your current job. You cannot go and open a small business and become a competitor. Its all about control...... So go get your sickle and get to work reaping the wheat!

First Fill and trying to get to know my new stomach
LeighaMason replied to Mrs Beasley's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also found that "cut your food into small pieces" and "eat slowly" were too vague for me. So I was having stuck episodes. So I finally figured out "cut your food into pieces the size of your smallest fingernail and only put 1 piece on your silverware at a time" and "eat no more than 3 or 4 bites in a row, then wait 60 seconds before you take another bite, when you have eaten 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup only take 1 or 2 bites then wait 60 seconds. If I get stuck I have to have 2 days of warm liquids to be able to eat solid food again. By the way I gained weight once I started eating solid food then when I had my 2nd fill I really started to get restriction and losing weight. Plus it could just be Water weight. -

LeighaMason replied to Agnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just a thought, could you be confusing being full with being stuck? They feel very similar to me. I only eat 4 bites then wait at least 60 seconds before taking more food then when I get to 3/4 a cup of what I am going to eat I only take 2 bites at a time because I start getting that feeling that on the next bite it will be too much and I will get that stuck feeling. So I go from full to stuck in 1 bite. This might not be it for you, just a suggestion. -

ThinnerKimmer "I know it has a lot to do with me, but there are so few foods that I can keep down that I find I eat the same (sometimes not so good-like mashed potatoes) things all of the time." Option 4: Keep the band a loosen it. You should be able to eat healthy foods. The lady who does my fills also has a band. She told me that if I am too tight all I will do is eat slider foods and drink my calories and then I will stop losing weight. This sounds like what is happening to you. She said too tight is worse than not tight enough. Please dont have GB. Remember how much weight you have lost, you havent gained it back. I really wonder what these Dr's are thinking when the want to give GB to someone who is 50 lbs overweight! My Dr would barely even give you a lap band for 50 lbs, much less GB. I wonder if they just want to get paid? Its like asking a car salesman which car you should buy (The one that pays him the most will be his answer.) Remember GB is not pretty and I know someone personally that eats around it. What if you had GB and still didnt lose the weight but had all the health issues that go with it. Yuck.

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Not sure where to post this... need some advice
LeighaMason replied to kirafiki's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
WOW.. I hope everything is ok with the cancer scare. Keep us posted. I dont have insurance either but please dont get me started on that subject. But here is what I do know. You have lost restriction and if you didnt have to fight a physical hunger you wouldnt have the lap band in the first place. It is not your fault that you are hungry. Can you call your Dr and explain the situation, ask for a fill and see if you can pay it out? -
Drinking question
LeighaMason replied to MissMelissa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really struggled with not drinking during meals until I had restriction and now it is painful if I drink while I am eating or too soon afterwards. Have you started eating yet? -
I see the so you meant national debt is $12 T instead of the deficit.

I'm so hungry...help???
LeighaMason replied to lamar44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was starving too. I started eating mashed potatos to fill me up. I also gained weight after my surgery but before my first fill. However once I started getting fills I started losing again. And I wasnt so dang hungry all the time. -
Should Medicare/Medicaid cover the band?
LeighaMason replied to wrk-n-prgrss's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, medicaid and/or medicare should pay for the surgery. Its not a question of whether people "ride" the system, its a matter of economics. Its the same if you are self pay or not. If someone pays $15,000 for a lap band and that ends their high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, joint problems, etc.... you will save money in the long run. By improving their health it could even give them the ability to go to work and leave the system. -
Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?
LeighaMason replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Would you wait to have a tumor removed because its not "big enough"? Obesity is as dangerous as cancer, just maybe not as fast. -

I have a question for those who are opposed to abortion, are you opposed to In vitro fertilisation (IVF) also? -
The the 2009 deficit was 1.42 trillion dollars not 12. Can you please let us know where the 12 trillion number was quoted from? Thanks, Leigha http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/107xx/doc10708/11-06-mbr.htm After fiscal year 2009 ended Sept. 30, the Congressional Budget Office reported that the actual deficit for the year was $1.42 trillion

Accused of Taking easy Way out!!!
LeighaMason replied to Mary Ash's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Strangely, weightloss can be very threatening to friends, significant others and family. Sometimes they are afraid they are going to lose you. That you will change on the inside like you are on the outside. Reasurrance is in order. I am very happy for you to be taking this step, I was obese during my 20's and 30's. Good luck to all of you........ -

LeighaMason replied to theglassmanswife's topic in Insurance & Financing
I cant help you on insurance (I was self pay) however, I am really happy with Dr Kim in Colleyville. I would check with him. -
Cristina, congratulations on your new band. I got mine in October and I have lost 31 lbs so far. I was self pay too. By the way, I was so hungry before my first fills so dont panic. I have had 2 fills and I am afraid to say it but I think I am at my sweet spot. Now if I would just get off my lazy butt and excercise, I would probably lose more than the 2 lbs a week that I have been.
