Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor No support
LeighaMason replied to dnunzo51's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think I am qualified to be a mentor based on the fact that I got my band 10/20/09, however, I am a great cheerleader! I understand the "why don't you just....instead of surgery" objection. At first my husband said the same thing. But like I told him "I have been overweight for 15 years if I could, I would have before now. (D*mn it!)" I think everyone that loves you becomes use to you the way you are and in typical human fashion resists change. Plus they are scared, it is surgery you know. But only you know if its the best thing for you. At 303 and 38 years you need to address it. It is impacting your life. I cant express the relief of just losing 34 lbs. (For instance, when I walk, my thighs are no longer in danger of starting a forest fire!) Please read alot of peoples stories and try and see if the lapband is going to be the right choice for you. If I had it to do over I would look through other peoples profiles and see what their eating habits were before they had surgery and try to pick our people who had the same types of eating habits that you do and see what kind of success they have had. -
I had mine done at a day spa. In Texas you have to be licensed. This is just like any other tattoo, make SURE that you SEE the tech take the needles out of a sealed pouch that has been in the autoclave. If you go to have it done and the tech says "Oh I just got the equipment ready and the needle is already in the gun", RUN LIKE YOU ARE ON FIRE! They need to be able to work with gloves on as well. Do not feel shy about asking the health protection procedures. If they do things like they should be they will be proud to show you.

I had bought Michael Thurman's extreme makeover plan (from the extreme makeover show) about a year before I had the band surgery. In his exercise recommendations he says to burn fat, keep your heart rate in the 65% range and not to let it go higher, if your heart rate starts to have an increase above this target you should slow your speed and it will keep you in the fat burning stage and not the cardio stage (I didn't know there was a difference). If I walk on the treadmill for 1 hour and keep my heart rate at 115-119 this seems to work for me. Plus I use a app on my iphone that is called lose it. (free) they have a website too. Those 2 tools help me the most.

Simple Poll - If you had it to do over...

So far I love my band. I see people who are overweight in my daily running around and I have to restrain myself from telling them my story. -
2nd fill!!!!!!!!!
LeighaMason replied to skinnygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my second fill a few weeks ago, and I think they got it right. I eat well, don't get hungry for several hours after eating and have been losing 2 lbs a week, and I have lost 3 so far this week. I am not going to push it and risk getting too tight. I think I will hang out here until I stop losing. I only get hungry when I have waited too long to eat and then I am hungry the rest of the day. Glad to hear y'all are doing well. -
October 2009 Surgery Date?
LeighaMason replied to Daria77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on finding your sweet spot. I think I have found it too. I only had 2 fills but I am not hungry and I have been losing well. OK maybe not last week but I had several glasses of wine, not at the same time, but on 1 glass on several nights. Stress is killing me! -

And for the record, I never said I cared what corporations paid their employees. I said I cared what the government paid the corporations. I am for free markets, however, I am not for government purchases of services and supplies without a bids being taken, this is called force accounts and they are notorious for being given to friends, families, and financial contributers. This results in overpayment for services. -

Cleo's mom, Thank you that is exactly what I was trying to say about overpayment of corporations. -
Before. I really felt pretty on this day, too.

You misunderstand my post, is it deliberate? The government pays the corporations too much. -
I just read a post where you put "slow and steady wins the race", I like your attitude!

I had my eyeliner put on a year ago. Top and bottom, I really like it because I have blond eyelashes and I looked washed out when I don't have my makeup on. I greatly underestimated the freaky-ness of having it done. Not painful but I can't even put in eye drops by myself. So I would recommend a good relaxing agent beforehand.

I agree we should cut our spending, just not at the expense of poor people. There are lots of corporations who receive huge overpayment's for their services. I think we should start there. -

Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. 14They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know you are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? 15Should we pay or shouldn't we?" But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. "Why are you trying to trap me?" he asked. "Bring me a denarius and let me look at it." 16They brought the coin, and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?" "Caesar's," they replied. 17Then Jesus said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." And they were amazed at him.Mark 12 -
Very liberal interpretation of the scripture. Patty:"Remember, there was a day when our country did not have welfare. Families and Christians helped each other." There was also a day, not long ago, when people starved to death on the street. That is why Social Security, public assistance, etc was founded. I am not interested in returning to these days.

I own 5 rent houses. In 2005 when one was available I was contacted by a person who had "section 42" (HUD) and wanted to rent it. So we did the paperwork and she moved in. She was a single mom who was working a job and going to college. She lived in my house until last May when she graduated (engineering degree) and went to work for Exxon. She moved to Humble for her job so she is no longer in my house. Of course she now has a good job and is no longer on public assistance. She had a choice she could have stayed in her situation of working odd jobs or she could get on public assistance (temporarily) and earn her degree and have a career. I am proud of her and I am proud that my taxes were well spent. Oh and by the way when the public assistance money is spent, it goes back into the community in the form of rent, groceries, school, etc. -
That is so funny, I was trying to friend request you this morning and my computer froze and I didn't have time to fix it so I was going to do it later today. Great minds think alike!

PBing much too often!!
LeighaMason replied to Agnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK my professional (haha, I am a car salesman) opinon is you may be too tight. If I were pbing more than the rare occurance I would have a .5 unfill. I would not risk a slippage just to lose weight faster. I would go with slow and steady instead of risk my band. -
Do you burp more now that you are banded? (non-productive, just air)
LeighaMason replied to dustout's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
After surgery I couldnt burp at all for 2 weeks, when I finally did I felt so much better, since then, I burp so much! I burp, gurgle?, and do this crazy hybrid hicup burp. I always feel better after. -
congratulations and good luck

I can't think of where in the bible it says God deems taking from the rich to give to the poor, wrong. Can you remind me?
