Eating the wrong food
LeighaMason replied to Sunnyklydi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with you on the fast eating thing, its my worst habit. I got a fill last Thursday and I have to eat so slow, I actually get bored before I get full. I need to go in there now and try and eat the rest of my dinner so I have enough calories and Protein for the day. Can you take your lunch? I know its not fun but I think its important. My husband cooks for us and on Sunday, he will cook 3 or 4 meats so that when we get home at night all we have to do is make the veggies. You could pack a lunch at night so you have it the next day. Boil a dozen eggs on Sunday as well. If you have a desk job you can eat a boiled egg without causing too much drama getting it ready. I have to cut this up into fingernail sized pieces or it gets stuck. I do the worst when I am not prepaired. When I wait too long to eat and then I do eat, I am STARVING! and I am STARVING! for the rest of the day. (This is where the shakes come in). Besides you have lost 25 lbs! Thats great. Just keep trying, it will all be good. -
Eating the wrong food
LeighaMason replied to Sunnyklydi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My opinion (remember I am a car salesman not a health care professional) is that you are relying on sliders. I feel that Cereal with milk becomes a slider, yogurt is a slider, the breaded prawns could go either way on the slider scale. All this stuff leaves your pouch too soon. Can you eat eggs? Try 2 fried eggs (I keep boiled eggs in case I am in a hurry) for breakfast with a sausage link or a piece of bacon. Then I am usually full until lunch. Then I will have a piece of fish (I have a kitchen at work) with a veggie (usually canned) at lunch. If I am busy I will open a can of tuna and add mayo and have 6 crackers. This usually holds me over till 3 or 4 then I will have a shake. I use the EAS low carb one (its ready mixed, plus only 110 calories for 17g Protein. Then for dinner, a slice of chicken (or other grilled, baked or slow cooker meat), peas (or other green veggie) and a baked potato (I shouldn't have the potato but it makes me full). The lady who does my fill is also banded and she says that being too tight is worse for weight loss than being too loose. She says if you cant eat regular food you will be overly hungry and will resort to sliders without realizing it. I hope you don't feel like I am preaching to you, I hope this helps. -
I drink 2- 1/2 cups of black coffee every morning. I can't drink fast first thing so I only get 1/2 a cup at a time or it gets cold. (I gave up beer for gods sake! Isn't that enough?!? You can't have my coffee too!)

Eating the wrong food
LeighaMason replied to Sunnyklydi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please tell us exactly what you ate today. Thanks, Leigha -
You mean diet? Oh, I haven't even thought of trying that! I was just going to go straight to surgery, spending thousands of dollars and putting myself through tons of pain for no reason. Oh thanks so much for the suggestion, you saved me so much hassle........

Put some Worcestershire sauce in it, it always makes it taste "meaty" to me. -
Do I Need A Slight Unfill? What do you think?
LeighaMason replied to BarbaraWM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as I could eat good solid food I wouldn't do an unfill. If I started counting on just sliders and shakes then I would. You probably still have swelling in your stomach. I would give it 2 weeks to go down. Small meals are fine you probably just want to make sure your getting your protein. If not I would supplement with protein shakes. -

Mice are definitely not considered a liquid......... -
Most Dr's want you to heal for 6 weeks before you get your first fill. I would call and check with his office.

4TH FILL! feeling discomfort!!!!
LeighaMason replied to Kelleeelliott's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my 4th fill on Thursday. I ate chicken noodle soup last night and I was OK then about 10 min later I took a drink of tea and that got stuck. Maybe the noodles swelled up? I think I will leave the Chicken Noodle alone for a while. -
4TH FILL! feeling discomfort!!!!

My fill nurse says only clear liquids for 2 days and then only mushies for 2 days. Did your soup have anything in it? Or was it thick like potato? -
Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Could use regular encouragement
LeighaMason replied to JudyLSavin52's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Judy, We are glad your here. I personally got the band because I have portion control issues. Once I started eating I couldn't stop until I had 2 plates of food. I was always hungry. If you don't mind me asking, what type of eater are you? (Such as too much at one time, a little bit at a time but too many times a day, all carbs, too much sugar, etc?) What about fills? How has your follow up care been? I believe in head hunger but I also believe in body hunger too. There are a lot of people on this site going through the same feelings.... -
Abdominoplasty before hitting goal weight?
LeighaMason replied to reneek's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I would start the insurance process. At the rate you are losing you will probably be close to goal when the 3 months are up. Besides you can delay the surgery at that time if you decide to, that will give you 3 months to make up your mind and get a professional opinion from the PS. -

I signed, not that I think it will do any good. Anyone with the ability to say these things is too big a narcissist to resign. Then again, maybe he should stay in office. He is a very good example of the bigotry of the GOP, he is a gift (to the democrats) that keeps on giving. -

I had my surgery on 10/20/09 it is working wonderfully for me. My main problem with my weight was portion control, which the band is perfect for. But before the band I could (and did) eat 2 full plates of food at one sitting, the band physically stops that from happening. This is what I attribute to my success so far. I don't drink sodas, I gave up beer forever, my husband or I cook almost every meal from scratch and we rarely eat out, I don't snack, I don't eat any processed foods, bread, or pasta. This is what I could do for better results. I don't exercise like I should. Sometimes when my husband has cooked something really good, I will let my food settle and go back for seconds and make myself sick. Stubborn I guess. :cool2: Good luck with your surgery, I know you have done your homework and you will get what you want from the band. I think that is what this is about. Some people want to be in a bikini and some just want to lose some and feel better. You decide what you want to put in it and what you want to get out of it. :tongue_smilie:

I know how you feel. I actually gained weight between my surgery and first fill. I over eat that is why I had lap band but remember if they could just put it in and have it work it wouldn't even have the port. Fills are more important than the band itself. By the way I paid for my band too so I thought holy crap! a $10k failed diet! but no, just as soon as I started getting fills I started dropping weight. I am averaging 2 lbs a week (and that means 4 lbs one week and none the next) but I try and keep the long term in mind. And yes I was starving until I started to get my fills. You are in what everyone calls bandster hell. Ride it out. Don't give up. When is your first fill?

Easter Challenge Anyone?

I just wanted to move kdee's spreadsheet link to the last page for anyone who still wanted to join. Good luck everyone!:tongue_smilie: -
I was glad to see the part about a new doctor. You couldn't get in because of an insurance change? They risked your health just to make sure they were going to get paid? But on to a more positive note, if my math is right your still down 35 pounds or so? I don't know about you but I gained almost every year of my adult life, so you have a wonderful head start and with a re commitment you can do as well as before. Congratulations on your fill.
