Why do I seek approval...from my scale?
LeighaMason posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK I am not an approval seeker, I have never been one who is worried what others think. So why do I care what the scale says? I usually lose a pound every 4 days, so today, the 4th day I get on the scale and it is 158.0. Same as 4 days ago, if it said 157.9 then in my mind I lost a pound, and I was successful. But instead I am sorely disappointed over .1 of a pound. I stand on it 4 different ways trying to get it to say 157.9. How crazy is that? What the hell? Why do I care what this piece of metal and glass thinks? I bought 2 new pair of size 10 jeans yesterday, I have been working out and I feel so much better, do these things make me happy? Yes, but then I step on the scale and that overrides the size successes? WHAT? I am beginning to question my sanity! Anybody know what this scale obsession is about? (Or is it just me?!?):smile2: -
Why do I seek approval...from my scale?
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Betsy--I talk to myself constantly, I don't watch TV or listen to the radio so that really gives me lots of time to talk to myself. And your right you do have to be careful what you are telling yourself. You should tell your gyn to change his scales to weigh 13 lbs light instead of heavy, its bad enough what we have to be subjected to there without being abused by the scales too. Jennifer--"scale whore"... to funny for words. :cursing: -
Easter Challenge Anyone?
LeighaMason replied to mrsgriffin2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I just posted my Friday weight on the spreadsheet. I lost 1 pound instead of 2 but (here is my excuse) I started the challenge on a Monday so I still have until Monday to lose the other one and still be on track. :cursing: -
Not sure what to expect
LeighaMason replied to aliison88's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was low BMI @ 34 so I wasn't really a candidate for GB, and I wasn't to big on the idea of cutting away most of my stomach with the sleeve. So I went with lap band. I had failed at so many diets that I thought well if this doesn't work at least I can take it out. But it is working beautifully. I did tell my husband last week that if anything ever happened and I had to take out my band and it couldn't be replaced, I would get a sleeve. I never and I mean NEVER want to go back to having my full stomach that was always screaming "I"M HUNGRY". I'm glad to see that you are interested in doing research to know what to expect. It will really help you be successful. -
My journey begins on Monday!!
LeighaMason replied to vanishingvixen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on the start of your journey! We are glad that your here. What a sweet little girl, just look at how she is looking at you. I think our children are great motivation. Let us know if we can help you with anything. Leigha -
Jason good luck with your diet. The good news is your insurance will cover it just not right now. I'm glad you are on the path to make yourself healthier. Let us know if you have any questions. Leigha

I think baby food is more in the mushie stage. Full liquids to me means being able to pour it through a strainer. Not just get it to go through a strainer but pour through. I think it helps to think of your new stomach pouch as a strainer. Congratulations on your band!

Congratulations! I know your excited. Good luck with your schedule.

Patty, Do I look stupid to you? "You need to shop around." Please. Do you think I didn't? Some plans were over $20,000 a year, the $12,000 number is a high deductible, low lifetime limit, preexisting condition exempt, piece of crap policy.

Yeah because tort reform worked so well in the Texas workers compensation fund. Tort reform was sold to us as a way to lower costs (in our Oilfield Construction company, it is a huge expense) so we voted for it. Guess what? Now the costs are the same but the benefits that the workers are entitled to is limited. The insurance companies just took the profits and increased their bottom line. So now we still pay the same but if one of our employees gets hurt they don't get paid as much as they would have, great plan.

Insurance for me and my husband is over $12000 a year. Making it $11,700 doesn't help me buy it.
-
That is what insurance is spreading the risk (cost) out over all the people. The more people involved, the less the cost.

3 days into the Pre - Op diet
LeighaMason replied to Countrychic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had to trick myself into doing it. I would say..."I don't know what I will do tomorrow but I know that I can hold out and only drink the shakes today. I can do anything for 1 day." Then I would tell myself.."OK I did it yesterday if I give in today then my suffering yesterday would be a waste. Maybe tomorrow I will give in" etc until the time is gone. I also used "If I am good for the next (fill in the blank) days then I have a real chance to be thin again." I told myself anything that would help me even if it wasn't true! Good luck, I hope everything goes well for you. Leigha -
Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Would just like to have someone to talk to
LeighaMason replied to Alyce24's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh good I think thats great that you move around at work, I bet that really helps. Plus with another fill you will probably be getting closer to restriction. Sorry to hear you have been sick, I don't like to work out when I'm sick either. (OK I just don't really like to work out) Plus lets don't forget to celebrate 37 pounds! I don't care how long it took 37 pounds is a lot! Good job. -

Banded 1.4.10 - Am I A Complete Failure?
LeighaMason replied to moxie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Moxie, I would now like to take the time to celebrate the fact that you have lost 32 lbs! Way to go! Yeah! (I really need to develop a weight loss cheer, I'm just not that creative) But I am excited. Your doing great, keep up the good work. If you can do this well before you get restriction what can you do after? :cursing: -
Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Would just like to have someone to talk to
LeighaMason replied to Alyce24's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't have enough experience to consider myself a mentor, however, I love to give advice and encouragement. You don't mention fills, where are you on that? (I think that can be at the heart of a slow process.) What do you do for a living? Are you very active? Tell us more about your story. If you don't want to tell in public feel free to PM me. Leigha -
Plus there is a difference between 5% and 5 cents.

Made it through the FIRST Day
LeighaMason replied to 1unknownperson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a little tight since my last fill, I am trying to wait it out and hopefully loosen up. I can drink water and protein shakes fine but I have to eat sooo sloowly it is driving me crazy. I guess illuminationlady and I are going to do the too tight thing together. Last night I ate 4 crackers with cheese spread for a snack while I cooked dinner then I was so full I couldn't eat the rest of the night. (Bad Leigha!) So back to the rules. Protein first. But I did lose a pound on the scale today (Yeah me!) so I moved my ticker. I am more of an instant gratification girl, I'm not about to wait for Monday weigh in. I'm glad to see you doing well today, have a good weekend. -
To get a weightloss ticker search btrieger & ticker, he posted instructions that I followed.

No I didn't think it was bad at all. My shoulder was like an ear each and the port site didn't hurt at all it was just itchy. -
Why do I seek approval...from my scale?
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that I have been whining about the scales not moving but I have been having some disbelief at my weight (or non acceptance of my new weight). When I am thinking to myself about weight, my mind will still use 185 (my standard answer, if anyone asked) as my current weight. If anyone asks now, that still pops out first. Habit or something else? -

I just had a mental picture of myself stopped at a redlight, weighing myself in the street. OK maybe not the car....
