Trouble with pre op liquid diet!!!!
LeighaMason replied to dontgoggilme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is a trick I used on myself, "I can do anything for 1 day, so today I am not going to eat anything solid, I don't know what I am going to do tomorrow but I am going to make it through today." Then the next day I said that same thing and then I added "besides if I eat something today the amount that I suffered yesterday will be wasted so I am not going to eat anything solid today..." and so on until the time is up. By the way, I had a small unfil today so I am on liquids for today and tomorrow, too. And I plan on using this trick to make it...... -

Newly banded with a question
LeighaMason replied to Elation's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained weight until my first fill, since then I have lost 2 lbs a week! Use this time to learn to eat healthy, normal foods in smaller portions. This is the foundation for a lifetime of good eating habits. -
Relax, everything will be fine, don't worry, your doctor isn't the only doctor in town and that isn't the only anesthesiologist. I don't think its a "no" I think its a "change your plan". If that doctor wont help with appeals someone else will. Too many people get this done with insurance. And I also don't think you will need a pain pump after surgery anyway. I was in the truck on my way home (2 hour trip) less than 3 hours after I went in to surgery.

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I bought Chobani Greek yogurt at Sam's. Its really good! (Of course I haven't eaten in days but I don't think its just that) It comes in a 12 pack, 6oz size, 140 cal. and 14g of protein. Its the first yogurt that I have seen that meets my 1g protein per 10 calorie rule. (Kind of pricey, almost $1 each, but still cheaper than my protein shakes) I'm so excited.... -
Day 6 post-op, and I wouldn't believe I'm banded had I not seen the x-ray
LeighaMason replied to Jennilyn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are singing my song! I did exactly the same thing, STARVING, HUNGRY the about to DIE type of HUNGRY. So I had runny mashed potatoes too. (I am not advocating breaking your Doctors rules, I want you to call them in the morning and tell them what you have done. They may want to see you.) But, what I did want to say is....it gets better, I had no restriction with my band until I started getting fills, as a matter of fact I gained weight after the surgery and before the first fill! I was so hungry and then I felt like a failure and that I had wasted my money but it wasn't true. The band just doesn't work by itself, after your stomach heals and you can start getting it tightened you will not be so hungry. It will be OK. Try Greek yogurt, I bought some today at Sam's and it is fabulous. Most Doctors recommend 1000 - 1200 calories a day. (Once again check with yours) But at 500-800 calories you will be very hungry and will resort to cheating. Get your Protein, it will help you not be hungry. I try to get at least 1g of protein for 10 calories on any protein source (This rule does not count for veggies.) only for shakes, yogurts, Protein Bars, meat, etc. Good luck and let us know if you have other questions. -

Trouble with pre op liquid diet!!!!
LeighaMason replied to dontgoggilme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor wanted my stomach and intestines empty for the surgery besides the liver thing, that is why he had me on shakes. 1)You may be thinking, oh I just wont tell him, but there was a thread about a week ago about a lady who didn't tell her doctor everything and she died. This is your life you are messing with. 2)Amy is right about him taking a peak inside and see that you haven't been following directions and sewing you back up without a band. 3) The band doesn't work by itself, if you cant stick to the pre-op diet, how are you going to work with the band after? I hope this doesn't sound too harsh (because I am saying it out of the hope I can save you a lot of trouble) but you need to take a serious look at your motivation and determine if you are going to be able to follow the after band diet. There are several times that you will be on shakes only, after surgery (2 weeks), after fills (2 days) and after any stuck episodes (2 days). These aren't for fun and games if you don't follow the shakes only part after the band you can ruin your health. Call your Doctor's office tomorrow morning and lay it on the line for them, your health depends on it. (Sorry but my mommy gene just took over) -

BT, I am too far away for the support group, so I don't know either. Betsy, I am modifying my favorite saying, from now on it will be "Kids and denim don't lie!" -
Quote--Longtimecoming--I don't know if I'll be able to afford plastics I am with you I was self pay on the band so I am out of money for extras at the moment. So I decided that extra skin without the fat layer beneath is better looking than extra skin with the fat layer.

Well I am back from Dallas, what a relief! I forced myself to drink a Protein shake before I went and for the 2 hours it takes to get there it was gurgle, gurgle, burp. When the nurse took the .3 out, she told me to stand up and drink Water to see how it was, when I stood up I felt the Protein Shake from that morning drain out of my pouch. It was so weird. Immediate relief from the pain. From now on I am a "too loose instead of too tight girl", all the way. Jen- I cant wait to hear about your Monday weigh in. I wanted to say welcome to AtGoalgal, Adagray, and laugnleo. illuminationlady and humming bird- I hope ya ll are at your sweet spot it really sounds like you are. Tarajim, welcome we needed more guys. BTW, I love the description under your name it always makes me laugh. btrieger--I didn't know about your heart attack, that must have been so scary. Love the pallbearer crack. I'm so glad that I have y'alls posts to read everyday, it is a major source of laughter for me. Anybody seen Elfie today? I'm wondering how she is.... -

I'm glad everyone likes our new spot. If you only have a minute, it is nice to be able to look in and check on how everyone is doing in one place. I guess I am going in for an unfill today. I have really struggled since my last fill. Yesterday when I woke up I was barely able to drink coffee (warm or hot stuff usually helps me). I was able to nurse a Protein drink and get it all down after an hour. Then I really messed up. I wanted to see if I could eat so I had 4 sun chips. They went down well so in my mind everything was fine (hello? chips are sliders!) so I proceeded to have some of my husbands famous green chili. After about 3 or 4 small bites, my stomach really got pissed and started cramping and sliming. After about 4 hours it finally stopped. Later I was able to drink a hot green tea and then an hour later a cup of chicken broth, but now I cant even drink a Protein shake. I totaled less than 200 calories yesterday. I use a program called lose it on my iphone to track my food intake and my calories and nutrients, and there is a graph on there when I looked at it yesterday the graph shows a definite decline in my ability to eat enough. I am scheduled to eat 1009 calories a day and prior to today I am 2975 under for my weekly budget (6 days), so I am averaging 513 calories per day. OK whining is over.. now on to the positive side. 1) I did 5 hours of weight lifting last week! 2) I lost another pound. 3) I found a notebook where I had started a diet in 3/08 and had measured myself, I have lost 5 inches off my waist. I also wanted to mention something, I am very against commercial messages on these boards, however, when I do it its fine. Wait, what was my justification? Oh yeah, if someone is from Dallas and considering surgery, I am very pleased with the service that I have gotten from Dr. Kim and Forest Park. My fill nurse gives out her personal cell phone number. I called her yesterday (Saturday)and told her about my problem and she is meeting me at the hospital today (Sunday) at 11 to do an unfill. When I need a fill I can call on Friday and get one the following Monday or Thursday. They have been so helpful :wink2:....(OK the commercial is over you can go back to your regularly scheduled program.) -

I had a hard time deciding to put this under the health care or hypocrisy thread.... Obama to GOP on health care: `Let's get this done' By ERICA WERNER, Associated Press Writer Edited for space. Obama plans to release an updated proposal in the week ahead, likely on Wednesday, according to press secretary Robert Gibbs. Gibbs suggested it would include concepts put forward by Republicans at the summit. One attendee, Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., was contacted Friday by the White House and asked to submit details of suggestions he made to tackle waste and fraud in the medical system, Coburn's spokesman said. John Hart said Coburn views Obama's legislation as a government takeover and would not be able to support it even if it includes some of his proposals. "Unfortunately, even before the summit took place the majority in Congress signaled its intent to reject our offers to work together," Coburn said. "Instead they want to use procedural tricks and back-room deals to ram through a new bill that combines the worst aspects of the bills the Senate and House passed last year." What?? We just said we want to use some of your ideas.

LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My last fill gradually loosened that is what I am hoping for. I had this fill on 02/18. I had good restriction after the 2nd fill then it went away, so when I went for this fill I told my nurse I probably only needed .25 or so thinking .5 max. But she does it under floro and needed .7 to get good restriction so I am thinking that if I was good that day under floro I probably just have swelling and I should just be patient (not my strong suit) that is why I am giving myself a deadline of a week from Monday (March 8th) to call for an unfill. If I call that Monday I can have it done that Thursday and that would be 3 solid weeks to get rid of the swelling, I think if the swelling were going to go down 3 weeks should do it. Betsy, I'm glad your doing well, sorry about the snow impeding your exercise. Cocoa, Thats cool that you have a good PCP. I have never found one I liked. You should post some pictures of your dog, I have never seen a putz dog before!:wink2: Humming bird, Oh I love Denver! But not in the winter. Congrats on the BMI milestone! -
What was ESSENTIAL Post-op - Comfort and Food wise
LeighaMason replied to pmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I had it to do over, I would have ordered the unjury chicken soup protein powder, by the time I discovered it in my post op freebie package, I was almost through with the liquid stage. I was sick of cold protein drinks and it hit the spot. -
Getting banded on Monday and freaking out!!
LeighaMason replied to wannababy2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I have seen, the people who have lost weight in the past and just couldn't keep it off are the ones who are the most successful with the band. One lady says "Once you have the band everything that you know about losing weight actually works". Portion control was my problem and now since I have my band and my fills overeating is physically impossible. I hope you find it that way too. -

I had a pretty good week so far, I have lost 1 pound but I go Monday to Monday so I could pick up the other one by then. I try and lose 2 pounds a week. Since my last fill I am too tight, but I have to go to Dallas for fills and its 2 hours away. I can drink water and shakes and I can eat (very slowly and carefully) most of the time. I am going to give it a week, if I am not any looser by March 8th I will call to schedule a partial unfill, maybe .3 or so. I just hate to drive to Dallas for that small amount! Silly! -
Oh good! I was afraid since nobody had replied to your post that you might have been discouraged. I am happy to hear that your doing well. Losing before the surgery really helps with the safety aspect of it. So is your first goal 299? If so your are 25% of the way there! Good job!:cursing:

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor i need a buddy
LeighaMason replied to Countrychic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well thank goodness your finally going to get some help after spending all this time working on it. Once you have the band (and start getting fills) it will be so much easier for you. Its great news that you love to cook because I personally think eating out really cuts down on your weight loss, because of the amount of calories that are in restaurant food. The fact that you have lost 11 pounds on your own is wonderful. Plus you live in a location with great weather so when you start losing you can start doing more stuff outside which in turn will help you lose more. I am so happy for you. Keep us updated. 3/11 is just around the corner!
