banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning everyone! Its going to be another beautiful day! I am going to work in the yard again today, when Rob and I got married in 2008 we moved into his house and I rented mine to a "good friend" that I had known for 10 years. Well, to make a long story short, when she moved 10 months later, we moved back into my house and my yard was ruined but it was fall so now that it is spring I have a lot of work to do, but it is recovering nicely. NSV ALERT! Yesterday I was trying to dig up 2 plants that were here when I bought the house, they are ugly so I thought I might as well replace them. So I am outside, and I have the shovel balanced and I am jumping up and down on it and it wont go into the root ball. So Rob sees me and comes outside and says "Your butts not heavy enough to push the shovel down!" Plus I get up this morning and have a scale victory as well! I have lost 3 pounds this week. I am giving credit to riding my bike to work and gardening. Which leads me to wonder, do y'all think that gym workouts could be less effective than actually doing stuff outside? Well I guess I better get outside and get busy! I will take some pictures when I am through and post them tomorrow. Have a great day everyone! -
Can we please stop using the word "only"!?!
LeighaMason posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can we please stop using the word "only" to describe our weight loss? Example, I have been banded for XX months and have "only" lost XX pounds. Almost every time I read this statement and then I count how many weeks and divide it out, it is usually in the 1-2 pound a week range. People we are not giving ourselves enough credit for what we have done! I have seen people say they "only" lost 40,50,90 pounds! I don't care how long it took! You did it, its wonderful, life changing, in fact. I don't care if you "only" lost 1 pound thats one less than you had. I hope we can start celebrating our successes and stop "only-ing" them! -
Starting my journey
LeighaMason replied to AllieBearRocks's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Willingness to try and positive attitude are everything when you have the band. I was also really worried about failing, I spent $10k on the band, talk about pressure! But once I started getting fills and following the eating plan everything started falling in place and I started losing 2 pounds a week, then I slowed to 1 pound a week or so. But I only have 18 pounds to go. Make sure before you get the band that you are going to be willing to "work the band" to make it work for you. -
You can never change the behavior of another person, you can only change the way you let that behavior affect you. You have to let her find her own way, it may not be your way but when its your turn, you get to choose how you are going to do it. Good luck.

Going nowhere over two months
LeighaMason replied to Awkward customer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took 3 fills for me to start having restriction, you need to make an appointment with your Dr. I physically can not overeat. When I have eaten about a cup of food (or less depending on what it is) my body gives me an almost pain in my sternum, if I take one more bite I have pain, I mean real, I cant take this kind of pain. I totally disagree with the "just concentrate on the texture of the food - as long as I was not having runny slider food, I should forget calories" school of thought, I paid $10k to lose weight not just casually go along. I like your WW idea or I use Lose it on my iphone, others use daily plate or other tracking on the web but the whole point is you have to learn a new way of eating to get different results. But the first step has to be restriction to stop the hungry feeling. That is what the band is all about and your right without the fills the band isn't worth squat! -
I think chickening out is a valid option, I hate when someone feels they have to go through with something just because they are this far along. Lap band is not for everyone, and sometimes it may be right for you, just not right for you now. So reserve the right to change your mind. I hope you are able to lose the weight on your own, some people do. But I do want to encourage you to stay here on this site, I think that the way we eat, high protein, fresh food instead of processed, etc. makes a good diet with or without the band. Good luck.

If I could do it over, would I get a lap band??
LeighaMason replied to Woodstock girl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Quote from Spartan --But this whole concept of “invasion” is pretty absurd. There are three main categories which describe the invasiveness of surgical procedures. These are: non-invasive procedures, minimally invasive procedures, and invasive procedures (the latter of which may also be called open surgery).--Wikipedia So basically if you are comparing laparoscopic lap band to open gastric bypass, then lap band is technically less invasive. If you are comparing both surgeries as being done laproscopically, they are equally invasive. -
HELP and encouragement

I also wanted to chime in with the fact that if you are giving your body more whole foods with better nutrients it will be able to use these nutrient building blocks to improve your results from the workouts, if you are going to work hard you might as well get the best results possible. I try and get 1g of Protein for each 10 calories especially in a snack, for example Greek yogurt is 140 cal and 14g protein, this rule of thumb helps me pick my Snacks. Your doing great, these are just my ideas for tweaking. I always say, when you get advice, take what you can use and discard the rest. -
I'm getting Banded May 6th and I am worried about vomiting!
LeighaMason replied to Quinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its not really vomit, its more like gagging up mucus. If I eat too fast and get the stuck pain, then the mucus starts and then I go and kind of gag up this mucus. I don't think this is the type of vomiting that makes the band slip. I think it is more like if you have food poisoning or a virus and just keep throwing up that creates that problem. Trust me you will know when to stop, the band screams it at you. First you get a subtle warning, and if you don't mind, its like your mom if you came home from the prom at 4am. Not pretty. Don't worry, you will do fine. -

He is an idiot if he doesn't hire you, you can tell him I said so! -
I'm wondering why you didnt post this part of the article. But National Treasury Employees Union President Colleen Kelley says the comparison is faulty because it "compares apples and oranges." Federal accountants, for example, perform work that has more complexity and requires more skill than accounting work in the private sector, she says. "When you look at the actual duties, you see that very few federal jobs align with those in the private sector," she says. She says federal employees are paid an average of 26% less than non-federal workers doing comparable work.

Sorry I forgot that reality is irrelevant to you. My bad.

More lies and deception. Stick to reality please. "The authenticity of this speech is questioned, however, since the Register of Debates and the Congressional Globe do not contain transcripts of speeches made on the House floor, there is no way to know whether the speech is authentic." --Wikipedia

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good afternoon everybody! Well it is really spring in East Texas. Its so pretty outside, I decided to ride my bike to work again today, I did on Monday and was in such a good mood I sold 2 cars so I thought I would try it again. Dottie, Your body cant hold on forever, when I am not losing I think of my body like a spoiled 5 year old that I am dragging into the other room and they have a hold of the door frame, if you keep pulling eventually they will let go. (For those of you who might be wondering, this is just a mental picture, no 5 year olds to drag) So just keep pulling! Eventually your body will "let go" and Whoa Nellie, the pounds will just fall off! Anne--Glad you are enjoying your trip. Jacki--We cant all be positive all the time, the good news is the projects will be over soon and you can take a breath. I hope you have fun tomorrow. I have decided to try the green smoothie thing from Jachut. I am going to do it without the protein and if I am able to drink them, then I will buy some unflavored protein powder. I have been having a hard time eating this week, yesterday I realized it was because I was eating too fast. That is so deeply programed I don't know how I am going to overcome it. I was eating a Tuna Lunch to go yesterday and I said OK, I am going to eat 1 cracker with tuna then wait 5 min before I eat each one, guess what? First thing I had eaten in a week that didn't cause me pain. So for Dinner I made 6 sections of food on my plate, the new rule was I can't start on a new section until 5 minutes have elapsed. This worked well for me, so maybe I can use that to retrain myself. Ahem, has anyone noticed my BMI lately, I'm now normal! -
Cutting teachers, police, fireman, etc. pay in half? You think thats a good idea? Now I have heard everything.

A few questions.......please help?
LeighaMason replied to soooconfused's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1)I had to get use to the idea of not drinking while I was eating, however, you can ease into it because as you get fills it becomes semi-painful if you do it and that really helps you stop. 2) See response above. 3) I refuse to let my lap band be a shameful thing, I don't volunteer the information but if someone asks, I tell. As in "I had lap band 6 months ago and I am doing great!" Because this is a positive statement people don't react negatively, if they don't approve or don't want to talk about it they will change the subject, if they are interested they will ask questions. I hope that my experience gives others who are looking for a change the courage to look for the solution for their own weight concerns whether that includes the WLS or not. Good luck. -
The beginning of the journey
LeighaMason replied to kellyjoiii's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes I went home about 2-3 hours after the surgery, after surgery they had me drink 1 oz of Water every 15 min for 1 or 2 hours to make sure my stoma was open. (I can't remember exactly how long because I was still kind of high from the meds!) Then I went home, the only contact that I had with the Dr after that was the next night I was having a reaction to milk and had intestinal gas pain and in my paperwork he had given me it didn't say exactly what I could take for it. I knew there were some medicines that we were not suppose to take so I called and left a message and the Dr called me back within 5 minutes. That was almost 6 months ago and was the last time I talked to the Dr. I get my fills at the hospital that he is affiliated with and they are done under floro so my band position is checked every time they do a fill. And luckily the fill nurse is also banded so if I have a question I usually just call her. I'm sure if I felt like I needed more contact with the Dr I could make appointments and see him on short notice, I just don't feel the need to. However, studies have shown that people who stay in contact with their Dr and see them regularly do better. I just count my fill nurse as my "staying in contact". I am a firm believer that this is a very personal journey and you need to figure out what works for you and do that. Read everyones examples and then pick out pieces of advice that will help you, discard the rest. Good luck. -

A horrible night...
LeighaMason replied to sweetbean70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry you are going through this, but since you are keeping water down it was probably a stomach bug or food poisoning. I bet your band is OK, keep us updated. -
