I weigh and measure everything. I eat 2-4 oz of meat (weight) 1/2 cup veggie, 1/4 cup starch at the most at one time. I think that it protects my pouch from stretching, but it could just be that I am neurotic!

Banded in october--updates please
LeighaMason replied to delfinajones's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wouldnt it be fun to have a lapband party where you have to wear clothes from the year when you last weighed your current weight? (ex. pipedoc is at his 1988 weight, I am at my 1994 weight) -

I want to take the time to publicly declare my dislike for my new BB. Now that I know what it takes to actually burn 2150 calories a day I want to go back to saying "Its not me, I am exercising, I am just on a plateau." OK I admit it, I wasn't working hard enough. To reach my burn rate today I had to ride my bike to work, back home, and a 2-hour, 3-store marathon to get groceries for tomorrow! Can I please just go back to being ignorant? -
I finished week 1 yesterday, I noticed on my 3rd run that when I got to the place that I ended the first 2 times I still had a minute left so its not gotten easier but I got faster, plus after 1 week of that, when I rode my bike to work this morning it took 5 min less time than usual.
-
I am thinking that yes you are able to reach further than before and are pulling germs forward. OK, your right this is uncomfortable, but I go from between my legs in front to back not all the way around and then front to back.

Is this the right thing for me to do?
LeighaMason replied to JustJude's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I tried to look at it as a means to an end, I can do a month of shakes if it means that I will have a "cure" for my lifetime of being hungry. -

RUN DOG RUN! I'm not thinking dog filet would be that good. Too tough. On the BB website food journaling, the program suggests things that you have eaten in the past so that is helpful because I eat the Greek yogurt and EAS shakes daily and it helps not to have to look them up. I am glad that I bought the BB because it has reaffirmed what I suspected. I am not exercising enough, apparently my body is very efficient and doesn't burn that many calories when I exercise. Yesterday I went for a run (OK its really a walk, run, walk, etc) for 40 min. and then plugged it in, (it has a predictor for the rest of the day) and I still wasn't even close to my 2150. So later in the day I also walked on the treadmill for 45 min. I finished the day at 2224 so I was 74 calories over. It takes a 40 min run/walk and another 45 min walk to reach my daily calorie burn! No wonder I haven't been losing more steadily, I was only exercising 3 days a week and not getting to my needed amount of burned calories! So today I rode my bike (5 miles) and only burned 197! And I am only tracking for 1775 for the day! Crap, I am going to have to work harder! ETA: The good news is the cord for my scientific calculator also fits the BB so I have a cord for work and a cord for home, now I can download this several times a day as well. -
I am going to have to change my position and side with the NRA (as much as it pains me to say those words) I was thinking about this last night and the reason we have the right to bear arms is to keep the government in check. If this law passed technically the government could put the names of dissenters on the list and compel us to agree with them. So in the name of our freedoms I am going to have to say I am against having to check a list to buy a gun.

I'm not trying to be negative just realistic, this was my 5Th fill. Sorry. But like I always say "Fake till you make it" eat like you have restriction and it will get easier as you go. Good luck.

"Yes, if you are on the terrorist watch list, the authorities can keep you from getting on a plane, but not from purchasing an AK-47." Keep in mind if you want to finance a car at my dealership I first have to check this same list before I sell you a car but I don't have to check it if I sell you a gun? WTH? (By the way, I think every law obiding citizen should own a gun)

So-So they had the Eas shakes that I used but I had to add the Greek yogurt, I couldn't find a steak listing for filet so I had to use porterhouse but that isn't too different. I am going to have to move all my recipes from loseit which is a pain but I think I am going to have to really dial it in to lose the last 15. -

Betsy I just noticed how well you are doing on the MD challenge! Good job. -
After my last fill I thought they had poked a hole in my port because my band felt so loose, but then about 10 days later it tightened up and (I hate to say it, I don't want to jinx myself) I think I am at my sweet spot! There is no rhyme or reason for what the band does you just have to go with it.

Thoughts on Life insurance after weight loss and lab band?
LeighaMason replied to Fern's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just got a new policy, it was much higher than quoted once they finished underwriting it. They claimed the band and sleep apnea. The sleep apnea is gone after my weight loss but I don't have health insurance to have another test. So I guess I will just pay the higher premiums until I have health insurance again. -
I got mine yesterday, it wants me to eat 1250 calories a day and burn 2150. Yesterday I wore it but didn't exercise and burned 1790 calories. Today I am going to see how much exercise it takes to burn 2150. Y'all let me know what it wants you to do and what it takes to do it!

How did you get fat?
LeighaMason replied to LapNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My family was very poor when I was a child, there was not always enough food to feed the 4 of us. So a lot of the time I ate less so my brother and sisters had more, many times my subsidized school lunch was the only thing I ate that day. By the time I was a teenager we lived in a house with no refrigerator, so once again food was scarce. I was 5'5" tall by 16 but only weighed around 100. Then my family moved to Florida and I stayed in Texas, I was working 3 jobs and going to school a half day so I really didn't have much time or money to eat. Then it really got bad when I started using drugs and running with a rough crowd, when I was 20 I woke up in the hospital, I weighed 89 pounds and I was having a hard time regulating my heart rate so I decided if I didn't change I would be dead shortly. Fast forward 2 years, I got a good job for the phone company, was making good money, got married and I was around 130 or so (I thought I was fat!) Then like Hummingbird I started eating because I could. Got pregnant and started my 16 year long yo-yo cycle of diet pills, WW, Adkins, etc. I decided to do something about it and got my band 10/20/09 and finally got off the diet treadmill (or more accurately I got on the treadmill!) I wouldn't trade my band for anything its the best $10k I ever spent! -

LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got my BB on Wednesday, so yesterday I wore it but didn't exercise and I burned 1790 calories. I have switched my food logging to their web site. Their program wants me to burn 2150 calories a day and eat 1250 which is 250 more than normal, so I have to decide whether I am going to continue to do what I have been doing or change to their program. I guess I am going to try and meet the exercise goals first. I finished my first week of C25K today but now I am suppose to rest those muscles for a day so I am confused about what to do for exercise tomorrow, to burn 2150 I am going to have to do something every day but I mostly walk, ride my bike and now run which all involves those same muscles. Any ideas? -
banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey AF welcome to our thread, were glad your here. The only time I limit my liquid is for an hour after I eat. Other than that I just drink it, if it is right after a fill or the first couple of days after surgery I would just take a mouthful at a time to make sure it goes down OK and try not to chug it. But I drink a bottle of Water in about 10 min usually and as long as I haven't just eaten it just goes right through into my big stomach. I really regret not starting to exercise until about 3 months after surgery, I really wasted time by not. I was being stubborn. -

Karen--I will be thinking about you, I'm sure its going to just be a dense spot but keep us posted and try not to worry too much! Besides if they thought it was major they would have got you back before the 20th. Lee Anne--I'm glad to hear your exercising, I wasted time by being stubborn and not starting till a couple of months after I had the band. I got my body bugg today, I guess I am going to wear it 24 hours a day for a while to see what I really burn in calories. It is suppose to be 90% accurate. I think I probably have a burn rate of about 1500 calories on a day that I don't exercise. It will be interesting to find out. I am going to run in the morning it will finish my 1st week of C25K. Before I started running I had a 21 day plateau, now I have lost 2 pounds this week and it has really helped my hunger issues. Stacie--I was walking, riding my bike and lifting weights for 3 months before I was strong enough to start, maybe you could just do your walking and the first week just add in just 1 or 2 sixty second sprints instead of the 15 min worth and go from there. -
You got to move it, move it.
LeighaMason replied to karmaandkismet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started by walking on the treadmill for an hour 3 days a week and I was losing 2 pounds a week then my loss slowed down, so then I started riding my bike to work (5 miles 1 way) 2 times a week back to the 2 pounds a week loss then once again my weight loss slowed down, then I had a 21 day plateau so I started the Couch to 5K and lost 2 pounds this week. So it looks like running is going to be it for me for now, if I don't exercise I do not lose weight. -

These are all great ideas! I am going to offer one more, have a back up plan (this is for after you are back on regular foods), if you have to have something have a greek yogurt and a cheese stick, or cottage cheese with fruit, they may make you go over on your daily calories but they are a lot better than other things you can choose. -

LeighaMason replied to kerri76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kerri, I do not want to be negative but I don't want you to have unrealistic expectations. My band stops the physical hunger and it takes me an hour to eat a can of tuna BUT I can eat a full bag of chips, a full box of fruit loops, and a gallon of ice cream all at one time with no problem and I am at full restriction. All these things go through the band with no problem, slide right through into my big stomach. The band will not stop you from overeating these foods. (the donut, maybe) If you are expecting for the band to stop you from eating these foods you will be really disappointed that you went through this for nothing. You need to talk to your Dr., if these are the foods that have made you overweight, there might be a better answer than the band for you. Good luck.
