I'm even a failure at the band (vent)!!!(HELP PLZ)
LeighaMason replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think getting stuck is a indicator of restriction. You can get stuck by taking too big of bites. eating too fast or eating the wrong foods long before you get to the point of good restriction. I was hungry until my 5th fill, actually it was about 10 days after that fill that I quit being so hungry. When you say you can eat "anything you want" that tells me you don't have real restriction yet. Hang in there, get your fills, and don't give up. -

Christie--Happy Birthday, Don't y'all think we should say this to the Mom instead of the child? (Since you did all the work!) I just love little boys, they are so much fun. When my son was little I use to tell him, "your my favorite little boy" and he would tell me "your my favorite little girl", wow do I miss that. HB--Only 27 to go! Even if your not posting your doing great! Size 14! I agree Woo Hoo! Betsy--I'm glad you like your BB, I really like mine too but I just don't like what its telling me, I really don't want to face reality. So here is my reality that the BB is making me face. I am back down to 144, my 3 pound gain from eating the BB meal plan is gone but I have a decision to make. I drink a glass of wine at night, this is the only thing that keeps my diet from being perfect. (OK I also have a small Andy's frozen custard on Sunday nights so maybe not perfect but close) So I have increased my burn calories and I am eating the same 800-1000 calories a day. I have logged a 850-1250 deficit every day since I got my BB but I am still not losing the 2 pounds a week that I should be. (I weigh and measure everything so I feel like my logs are true) So I either have to give up my glass of wine (which I log, BTW) or I have to accept that it is going to take longer than July 4th to lose this last 14. Or I can give up on the last 14 cause my husband says I am starting to "look like a man".:smile2: -

My surgery is Monday May 17th @ 8:30am (I might back out)
LeighaMason replied to ChocolateDream81's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This may sound cold hearted but I decided I would rather die in surgery than be obese any longer. That decision really settled my mind. I got my will in order, told everyone everything I needed to, closed my eyes and jumped! Good luck with your decision. -

The BB is a lier. This morning I ran my 3rd day of week 2 on C25K then I walked on the treadmill for 30 min and I am on track to burn just 1900 calories for the day! Oh and when I finished my husband was here so I made him smell of me and he said I defiantly smell like ammonia, horse barn was his actual comment but we wont go there. I read on the internet that this is a result of burning protein when you don't have enough carbs which makes sense with my diet. Denise--So I guess you should tell your husband that you need regular vacations to regulate your blood pressure. Karen--Woo hoo on 167! I better get busy or your going to pass me! I'm so happy your BB is working for you. -
Do you mind if I answer your question to Sslouha? Someone who likes control will pick someone who has good self esteem because they enjoy the actual breaking down process. So no, they wouldn't pick someone with self esteem issues because then they are denied the pleasure of creating the emotional issues. They want to start with someone who is strong, but someone that they perceive has a "crack" in their personality where they can start to exploit them. When he saw that you were doing something about your weight he realized that you were correcting what he thought was going to be his starting place in beating you down and he realized that his plan for control wasn't going to work because you were fixing his only perceived "crack". By the way, his perceived "crack" doesn't actually have to be one, he just has to think it is. I know you feel bad now but I always say if you are tied up with the wrong person you are going to miss out when "Mr Right" comes along. Good luck in your band journey.

If this guy is so controlling that he wants to be in charge of your body, after just 2 weeks of dating, run like you are on fire. You only get one life, you should live it like you want to. I consider my band to be a great people sorter, it seems to get rid of the small minded and petty.

Who's with me to loose the last 20?
LeighaMason replied to Mommy of two's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I bought the Body Bugg and it said to burn 2150 calories and eat 1250 so I upped my calories and gained 3 pounds in 7 days! So back to my 800-1000 and try and burn the 2150 and see how that goes. I should be back to 144 by Saturday and hopefully lose a pound by Monday. -

Bobbie--Glad your back, you get a free pass from now until Monday when you are back at work and then we are going to start cracking the whip on you girl! Back to basics! OK not really but it sounded fun. Lena--Were glad your here. Lots of great advice to be had, I promise. Katie--I have heard the surgery referred to as "the insult your body has gone through" this really made sense to me between giving you major drugs, cutting you open, pushing your insides around, I look at it like your body has the right to be pissed for a while, but Betsy and Christie are more qualified at answering a question like that. Anne--Its kind of like being pregnant, at least you have a valid reason to be cranky! Use it for all its worth! Denise--Congrats on the ipad. I think they are totally useless, a complete waste of money. (I am going to keep saying this repeatedly so I don't go and buy one, I want it so bad!) Betsy--I cant wait for you to get you BB and tell us what you think. I wonder if their food logs are accurate. I really want to know what you think. Well I just got home from taking my baby to get his learning permit for driving. I don't even know what to say other than.... -

LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Karen, I have intentionally not told you about my BB experience because I don't want to "neg you out" (sorry for the car salesman lingo, but its the most appropriate that I can think of for the situation.) My BB wants me to burn 2150 calories and eat 1250. So I did, for a week, and gained 3 pounds, I usually have a 1 pound gain here and there that I ignore. So I can be 144 and get up the next day and be 145.5 and be OK with that, but I just kept creeping up I went from 144 to 147 in 7 days. (I am on the shot so I don't have a period so I cant blame it on that) I have not gained 3 pounds since I started this, a pound to a pound and a half MAX! So I have decided I will try and hit the burn number but I am going back to my 800-1000 calorie a day program. I think I am like Betsy, my body only loses weight when I eat below 1000 calories a day. But that doesn't mean it wont work for you and I think you should give it an honest try because there are thousands of people that it works for. :smile2: -
How did you decide on your goal weight?
LeighaMason replied to LapNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At the beginning I was scared of being disappointed so I set my goal at 150, BMI 25. But once I saw that this was going to work I decided that since underweight started at 119, I could add 11 pounds to be fit so I went with 130, BMI 21.6. That should be enough for a grown woman not to look like a teen, however, I would like to state that if I never lost another pound and stayed here at 144, BMI 24 I would still be thrilled to death. -
When you go to bed that way tomorrow will be complete. How many calories did it tell you to burn?

Ari--I hang out with a group of old republican men, nobody is going to confuse me with one of them (and they have not influenced my thinking about politics either)

I have a question for my friends in the medical field, for the last 3 days after I work out I smell ammonia. But I cant figure out could it be my clothes, or maybe the body bugg band or can your body emit ammonia after a workout or maybe it is all in my head/nose? -

The Republicans had the majority and the vote was split clearly by party lines. Only 1 democrat voted for the bill. The Gramm-Leach-Bliley bill passed 54-44. [s. 900, Vote #105, 5/6/99] (This is the bill that deregulated the home lending industry) This is a very interesting article written in Nov. 1999 by Martin McLaughlin that warns of the deregulation of banks: "The proposed deregulation will increase the degree of monopolization in finance and worsen the position of consumers in relation to creditors. Even more significant is its impact on the overall stability of US and world capitalism. The bill ties the banking system and the insurance industry even more directly to the volatile US stock market, virtually guaranteeing that any significant plunge on Wall Street will have an immediate and catastrophic impact throughout the US financial system." "And there is a much more recent experience than 1929 to serve as a cautionary tale. A financial deregulation bill was passed in the early 1980s under the Reagan administration, lifting many restrictions on the activities of savings and loan associations, which had previously been limited primarily to the home-loan market. The result was an orgy of speculation, profiteering and outright plundering of assets, culminating in collapse and the biggest financial bailout in US history, costing the federal government more than $500 billion. The repetition of such events in the much larger banking and securities markets would be beyond the scope of any federal bailout." Clinton, Republicans agree to deregulation of US financial system | Piggington's Econo-Almanac | San Diego Housing Bubble News and Analysis So sorry Patty, I know you want to blame the financial crisis on the minorities but its just not true.

really confused !!!

I weigh my cooked meat on the scale, 2-4 oz by weight, I use a measuring cup for veggies (1/2 cup) and starches (1/4 cup). So I might have 2-4 oz fish with 1/2 a cup of peas and 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes for dinner. Here is a link to my blog of what I usually eat: What I eat... - LAP-BAND -
It says NOT to get the BB wet in about 3 different places on the owners manual. Sorry

See Karen its all your fault, you made Stacie buy Just dance and you made Shammah buy a body bugg! I cant wait for everyone to get theirs. Well I made it through Mothers day without eating too much. I got up and ran my C25K and then walked an extra 30 because I knew what was going to happen once my company got there. My SIL brought chocolate covered strawberries and pretzels and I resisted both! But I gave the wine and cheese hell. But I still kept my BB calorie burned/ eaten balance like I should have. (Hopefully, I had to guess on the cheese because I didn't weigh it or count how many pieces I had, next time I will make me a separate plate and keep better track.) Oh well its a learning process. I rode my bike to work today and I plan on riding home if the weather holds out but since I spend so much time at my desk, I think I will have to go and walk on the treadmill for 30 before I go home. Have a good week everyone! -

LeighaMason replied to voodoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Voodoo-- I read on one of the treads that some Dr's suggest liquid pain meds to help the swelling but I cant remember which one! Maybe you could call your Dr's office and they can help. By the way, I had a partial unfill after my forth fill and they took out .25 of a .7 fill and I felt much better. And after that I don't plan on ever getting more than .5 at a time. So even if they take a little out its not a disaster. Good luck and let us know how it goes. -
I think the sweet spot is different for each of us, I consider myself to be at my sweet spot. I am able to eat small meals and be happy but I usually have a morning and afternoon snack. But my band is loose enough that I can eat any kind of meat that I want if I take the time to eat it slow and really chew. But I see others who don't consider themselves to be at their sweet spot until they can only eat really soft foods. I also wanted to add that I think it is cool that you were able to take a "break" from your diet, I think that sometimes it is healthy just to stop and give yourself time to adjust to what is happening with you body and then continue when you are ready.

Sudden 5 pound GAIN?
LeighaMason replied to prdmommyof3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are drinking with your meals you are washing your food through the band into your big stomach. That is why you are not feeling full and wanting to snack. This is the number one habit to break before you get restriction. (I know its hard, it was the hardest thing I had to learn) You can do it! Plus I think that being new to the process you should weigh more often that way if you see a trend you can start working on it sooner. I weigh daily but allow for a 2 pound variance so if I weighed 150 yesterday and 152 today I say it doesn't count its just Water, if it says 153 today I start thinking about what I am doing differently and can change.
