I think I may have given up....
LeighaMason replied to mom2girls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know those last few pounds are monsters! Here is my trick, I use this no matter what I am doing, running, dieting, etc. I try for one more. "I don't know if I can do 10 more but I know I can do one more. I know I can ________1 more ______. Then I will decide what to do from there." I just substitute whatever I am struggling with "I can run 1 more minute" "I can lose 1 more pound" "I can do the liquid diet 1 more day" I hope this helps. -
banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bobbie-- Try and not eat at your desk, I know this sounds weird but if I eat sitting at my desk I get stuck, I don't leave for lunch but I go and sit at a table where I cant see my work because it makes me stressed. Christie and Bob-- Its nice to see new pics of y'all! Plus Karen has a new one in the photo section in case anybody missed it. Crystl-- I have hair envy too. My frickin hair is fine and thin and has to be washed every.single.day and is still stringy. Denise-- I'm sorry about your family troubles, I wish there were something we could do other than wish you peace. I am not losing, these last 10 pounds are a nightmare. I had started eating more on the days before I ran so that I have the energy to make it and I gained 2 pounds. So I started being very strict with calories during the day and then before I go to bed I eat 4 crackers with Peanut Butter for energy the next morning (keeping my calories at 800) and that seems to give me enough energy to make the run. Tomorrow I have to run 28 min. I barely made the last 25 min run but I'll try. -
Once again, each surgeon is different. If yours gives you instructions on following a diet after surgery its because he knows how he installed the band. I know for a fact that my Dr stitches the stomach around the band, and then you are on a liquid diet because of that. Maybe your Dr doesn't and thats why you can eat immediately, however, implying that its OK for Regina to ignore her Dr's instruction just because your Dr is different is doing her a disservice. Regina, I'm sure the little bit of chicken soup didn't hurt you but I think it is the best plan for you to follow your Dr's directions until you are healed. Even if there is just a 1 in a 1000 chance that something could happen to the band I think that is too much of a risk. Good luck and remember a few weeks of bandster hell is better than a lifetime of being fat. (Thats what I told myself to get through it.)

Frustrated as hell
LeighaMason replied to shelley1057's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr gave me a ton of free sample Vitamins. If you tell the office people you cant afford them I bet they will give them to you free if they have them. My Mom has Parkinson's the Dr office knows that she has very limited income and they get her most of her meds on samples. Talk to the Dr. -
Your band is stitched in place, when you eat food your stomach contracts and can loosen the stitches leading to a slipped band. The liquid diet is not a "diet" so you lose weight its a health precaution. I cant stress it enough that you have to follow your Dr's instructions.

I'm in!

Thanks, Suzanne Liftingchic--Showoff! Seriously, I'm jealous. I struggled through every week. I could barely run for 60 seconds when I started. I finished week 7 today, I got lucky and it was cloudy. I finished the 5K in 40:43, so another minute off my time, that is a total reduction of 3:16 off my 5k time in 1 week! I will start week 8 which has 28 min of running instead of 25 so I should be below 40 min next week. ETA: I also adjusted my eating, the eating 1200 before I run was causing me to gain so I ate very carefully yesterday and then before bed I ate 4 crackers with 1 1/2 TBSP of Peanut Butter and I ran fine today with eating 788 calories yesterday.

Lower BMI'er weight loss
LeighaMason replied to Becca29's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I read a recent study on a government health website that stated low BMIers get the best results from the band. That being said, the lower your weight gets the slower it is to come off. I started at 2 pounds a week and I am down to 1 pound every 10 days. But I figure these last 10 pounds have been with me so long they don't want to leave without a fight. -

How about East Texas instead? -
Freebird-- My BB wants me to eat 1250 and burn 2150. If I do this, I gain. I have to keep my calories below 1000 to lose.

I take the shot, I was already fat when I started but I didn't notice any additional gain. Plus I have not had a period in 7 years. Now thats a side effect you can love!

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a confession: Hi my name is Leigha and I have become a weight-loss snob. I have been snarky to the newly banded, I have been rolling my eyes at the confused and I have been snickering at the plateaued. I am throughly ashamed of myself. I guess it started with seeing posts that are the same as last weeks, but the person who wrote it wasn't here last week so how can I expect them to know? I was newly banded once, I was confused and I was plateaued and nobody treated me like that. So I am going to make a commitment to try and help as many as I can even if they ask the same questions that have been asked to death, even if after I offer help they refuse it with a "yeah, but". I am going to be nice and positive even if they aren't. (Betsy is the best at this.) Thank you for listening.... -
I vote no on the liquid diet. If that were the answer I could have saved $10K and just did that! I think your body has gotten use to the 10K steps and doesn't consider it exercise anymore. Your probably going to have to do something that gets your heart rate up. Dancing, swimming, biking, etc. I reached that point too, where walking just wasn't doing anything for me. I started running with C25K and I am losing slowly (1 pound every 10 days or so) I think that this band life is a progression, as soon as you think you have it figured out, you have to change something. Good luck.

Fear of not losing
LeighaMason replied to Ninababy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't have any help yet, the band without fill is like a car without gas. Relax, practice your new eating skills (if you are on food yet), small bites, eat slowly, chew, chew, chew and start walking if your not already. Everyone went through this, as a matter of fact I gained weight before my first fill. Then I started getting help from the band and lost 2 pounds a week until I had the last 15 and now only a pound every 10 days or so. It will be fine, practice your band skills and it will be fine. -
What happens when your exercise equals out?
LeighaMason posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am running C25K. Week 7, walk 5 min. and then run 25 without stopping. I do this on a 5k route and walk the remainder of the way. My Body Bugg says I burn 387 calories doing this however, I have to increase my eating by 300 calories the day before or I am not able to complete the run. Of course I have read all the info about how building muscle burns more fat etc. but it feels so counter productive to eat the same amount that I am going to burn. -

Mimi-- For the last month I have only been losing about a pound every 10 days so it will take a while to see if I am still losing. Patience is not my virtue, however its the only way to know in this case so I guess I will wait it out. Suzanne--GB as in gastric bypass? -

LeighaMason replied to Finetnredbone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes you just have to vent! I'm glad your feeling better. Its also in my nature to be irritated when something isn't done exactly as I expected but I bet you Dr added the saline based on your personal anatomy. Maybe because you don't have a fatty liver or a lot of stomach fat that allowed him to give you a head start. -

Yes I have tried the run on my normal 800-900 calories and I cant make it. So I have been bumping it up to 1100- 1200 on the day before I run. -

I ran W7D2 today, and did really well. I have been running on a 5k route and walking the rest of the way after my timed runs. The first time I walked it and it took 1hr 3 min. Today I ran/walked it in 41:50. That is 2:09 less than I did last Friday. I finished my 25 min run with no problems. I ate 1189 calories yesterday with 92g of carbs, so I guess this is what I am going to have to do to have the energy to run the next day. So 800-1000 calories on regular days and 1100-1200 on the day before a run.
