I use Unjury Chicken soup flavor protein mix. It saved my life. I have also found EAS carbAdvantage premix shakes to be good.

When should I worry???????????

Miralax--mixes with water and you cant even taste it. Works for me by the next day! Hope you feel better. -
In my family it is usual to live to the 85-90 range so lets say you have 30 more years, do you want to be obese that long? They say 50 is the new 30!

Really Need Some Support...and Affirmation
LeighaMason replied to merrywait's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She is right in some regards, if you just get the band you will be lucky to "lose 40 pounds of the 100 you need to lose" however, if you get the band, follow up with fills, eat the correct portions of quality foods and exercise 3 hours a week you can do much better. Its all up to you. FYI: I am doing well and I eat frozen custard every Sunday and I work out 3 times a week for an hour or so, not anything "Trojan warrior" style. -
It's my graduation tomorrow!!

Erin, That is so exciting! I know the band is a big change but I love to see young people taking charge of their lives. I think your really brave to be the only one you know your age that is banded. I'm proud of you, especially getting good grades when you are feeling sick, I know that took extra effort. I also wanted to add that when you lose weight estrogen is released from the fat cells and that may be giving you the tenderness in your breasts. Have you started going to see an ob/gyn for a yearly physical yet? Keep us posted on how your doing and when your having your GB surgery. -

Yea for the 2 pounds! :bored: Thats great for your first week back. I know a lot of people grumble about journaling "it makes it a diet, etc." but I think it helps so much! But I'm with you on the 5 day pouch test, I don't really see how it helps unless you are on a major sugar binge and need a total break to get you off the sugar train. I really don't consider these 10 day periods a plateau, I think that these last few pounds have just been on my body so long it takes extra to burn them off! Hell they are older than my son! I got up this morning at 6:30 so I could eat before I ran. I made it the whole 28 min so I am going to start week 9 on Sunday which is a 30 min run. Thats all the exercise I have been doing, we are expanding our business and I have a ton of paperwork to do this week and I do have to confess to drinking wine almost every night. I'm so glad your doing well, I think the golf will help you two ways, #1 You get exercise and #2 You just get to enjoy being surrounded by nature. I am trying to decide what to do to improve next week, I always add or change 1 thing that I am doing every week and I start on Sunday but I don't know what its going to be next week. I guess I better start thinking about it. -

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group

Dottie-- My grandfather had both knees and hips replaced in his 60's and I remember him saying how glad he was that he did it because it allowed him to do what he wanted for 15 years after that. I will be thinking about you Tuesday. Karen-- Your an exercise junkie now! Do they have an "anonymous" for that? I'm so happy for you. Bob-- How was the eating? I have my fills done at Forest Park by Sandy (under floro) she has never stuck me more than once. The last time she wasn't there and another lady did it and the needle broke but that has been the worse thing that has happened. As a matter of fact I haven't even seen or talked to Dr Kim since I got banded in October, if I have a question I just call Sandy since she is banded as well. Shammah-- Post pics of the new cut! We want to see. Christie-- I am going to wait 1 year after goal to decide on PS, or I should say, which PS I have to have. Its looking like boob lift for sure and maybe TT, we will see. I guess I am going to go back to work now, I have been getting paperwork done for the accountant all week, and I am sick of it! I cant even farm because I am too busy! WTH?:bored: -
Well I got up this morning at 6:30 to beat the heat and since I didn't have any yogurt I ate cottage cheese instead. Then I waited 30 min and ran. I did really well, I ran the 28 min only stopping to get a drink at 24 min but I put the timer on pause and then ran the last 4 min. It is still taking me 42 min to finish the course but Sunday I start the 30 min runs so maybe I will finish under 40 min next week. Sandra-- Don't worry about week 3 you can do it!

I thought of something I wanted to add. I use a 5K route to do the C25K program on and then I walk the rest of the way home after I am through running my specified time. So yesterday when I quit at 25 min instead of 28 I was really mad at myself and gripping about how I didn't do as well as I wanted to when I realized I am mad at myself for running 25 min! That is the stupidest thing, 8 weeks ago I couldn't run at all and now I am beating myself up because I may have to do a week over? Seriously, I had to give myself a reality check. I hope everyone is proud of the accomplishments that they have made so far, if you are doing any exercise at all that is an improvement and you should be proud of yourself. I am going to be.

The last time I was this size, I was....
LeighaMason posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The last time I was this size I was 26 years old, a new mom, using Phentermine, starving my body of nutrients, killing my metabolism and unknowingly creating a yo-yo diet cycle. Now I am eating quality foods, tracking my nutrients, working out, eating smaller portions, fixing my metabolism, and have the ability of keep it off (based on the fact that I don't have to stop what is working like you do with diet pills). What about you? Please vote and tell your story. -
Hey Sandra, Glad your here we needed a few new runners. I know success is measured in different ways but I was never 55 pounds lighter 3 years after any diet so even if you aren't at goal I still consider being 55 pounds down successful. I have not been working out on my off days, I should lift weights but I haven't been. Vikki-- Congrats on finishing week 1! I bet week 2 will be a breeze for you. Mariasha-- I started walking the week after my surgery which really helped with the C25K. When did your Dr say you could start? Liftingchic-- How's it going? Are you on week 7? I think I am going to have to redo week 8 . I should have ran Tuesday for day 2 but I had gone out of town and was sick at my stomach from eating out so I ran yesterday instead. I quit at 25 min instead of 28. I think I am running out of gas. But I read an article on facebooks C25k page yesterday that said people who eat a yogurt 15-30 min before they run are able to run 13% longer. So I am going to try that, I have not been eating before I run, as a matter of fact I have to get up and run earlier. I ran yesterday at 8 am and it was already 85 degrees outside. So I am going to try and not be so lazy and get up about 6:30 eat yogurt and drink Water and then run around 7 am. Good luck everyone.

You should see what they look like on a motorcycle going 60  -
Every morning when I get dressed I get my clothes out and my brain says "No way your butt is going to fit in those little pants!" and they are now too big. But I guess I have to give myself a break after 16 years of being big, it is going to take some time to accept reality.

Phentermine and lap band surgery
LeighaMason replied to MommyX1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its ironic that I saw this today. As of this morning I weigh 139. The last time I weighed 139 was 13 years ago after taking phentermine for 6 months. The day I saw 139 I quit taking it and rapidly regained the weight. I have never met anyone, or for that matter even heard of anyone, who lost weight on diet pills and kept it off. Not only the regain, but my body then at 27 was not anything like it is now even at 40. Right now, after having my band for 8 months or so, its not just that I weigh 139 but I am getting lean, as in very little fat. When I was on the pills I was lighter but still fat. Does that make sense? I just had a smaller pot belly instead of a big one, now its almost gone. My opinion is there is better medically supervised diets for you. Good luck with what you decide. -

I'm back! I had to go to south Texas for a software training class for work. It was a 6 hour drive there on Sunday afternoon and training from 9-4 and home at 11 pm. I ate 1/4 of a Reuben sandwich, 1 french fry, and a chocolate chip cookie on Sunday and Monday I had a greek yogurt that I had brought then we ate at a Tex-Mex resturant and I had a crispy taco and 5 chips with hot sauce and on the way home a bowl of loaded potato soup. I was sick as hell when I got home. Now that I rarely eat out it really affects me when I do. I forced my 15 year old son to go with me. It was nice to have just him around, it was like we were before he became a teen and had better things to do than hang out with mom. Of course, he was on the laptop and texting his girlfriend but I did get some conversation from him. Remeber when you just had to ride with no entertainment? I did lose a pound, it took 11 days this time. I am exactly equal to the absolute lowest weight since I got pregnant with my son, when I lose 1 more pound I will offically be thinner than I have been in 16 years. :smile2: -

I recommend eating slower to help with the too full feeling. Once you have restriction you will have to eat slower and that will help automatically but for now if you will use a timer, take a bite, chew, chew, chew and then wait until 1 min has passed before taking another bite that will help with getting too full before you get the signal. It also gives you a chance to listen to your body before you take another bite. Good luck. :smile2: ETA: We all do this sometimes, I ate a 1/4 of a Reuben sandwich Sunday evening and didn't allow for the bread to expand so 10 min later I was in pain and spitting. -

Hey Amanda, I'm back! I always find it amazing that you can drive forever in Texas and never leave the state. I went to south Texas near Austin and it was a 6.5 hour drive. I got home last night at 11 and had a stomach ache from eating out. While I was gone Sunday (I left after lunch at home)and I ate, 1/4 of a Reuben sandwich and 1 french fry and a chocolate chip cookie. Then on Monday I had brought a Greek Yogurt for breakfast then I ate a crispy taco, and 5 chips and salsa for lunch, and a bowl of potato Soup for dinner with cheese, bacon bits, and sour cream in it. Then when I got home at 11 PM last night my stomach was having fits. I rarely eat out much less eat out for 2 days. My personal opinion is restaurant food is nothing like home cooked food and the salt, fats and preservatives make me sick. So I sat in the bathroom until 1 and then my neighbor started jackhammering up his driveway at 6. And I am finally getting to my excuse of why I didn't run this morning. I felt like crap! But I am not scheduled to run again until Friday so I can run tomorrow instead of today. Sometimes life just gets in the way, the key is to start back tomorrow. Yes, its hot here, I have been running at 7:30 but on Sunday it was 85 degrees and 85% humidity so I am going to have to start going earlier probably shoot for 6:30. I agree with getting your eating lined out and the move on to the exercise. I don't have the mental capacity to change more than one thing in my life at a time. The good news is that I managed to lose a pound. It took 11 days this time. But I only have 9 to go so thats only 99 days :smile2:. How's it going? -

I gained weight on mushies and was starving as well. Then I started eating meat and getting fills and I started losing 2 pounds a week. Don't worry it will get better. And on a side note, I never raise my ticker. I consider any weight gain as "bounce" those pounds are so new they will be easy to get rid of its those really old pounds that are 20 years old that are hard! -

I started journaling because one day pretty soon after I was banded I was complaining to my husband that I wasn't losing but I was doing everything right and he was like "um, not really". I was lying to myself about how much and what I was eating and having to enter it in the computer really helped me face reality. Have you decided where you are going to journal? Web site? Phone app? I have to eat breakfast, hunger is my enemy if I every get hungry I stay that way for the rest of the day so I eat every 3 hours. I agree about starting the metabolism. You should call the Dr now for a fill, what if it takes a couple of weeks for an appointment and you wait till your ready and he's not! Waiting sucks. You paid for the band, you should use it. Who cares if he is unhappy with your progress, he's not your dad. I did pretty well last week. I have been doing the C25K program, unfortunately I have found that if I want to lose this last 10 I am going to have to work it off. I tried eating more on the days before I ran but it just made me gain 2 pounds so I went back to my regular calories and just ate 4 crackers and Peanut Butter before I went to bed and that gave me the energy to run. I have to run in a few hours and I am concerned because I wanted to eat extra before I went to bed but I couldn't. But the good news is I was 140.0 yesterday so maybe today I will be 139.something today. I am only losing a pound every 10 days or so. Its really hard to be patient for that long. I just have to really divide it up to one pound at a time. I am going to a software training class and its a 6 hour drive away so I am going later today and spending the night which means eating out for a day and a half. Which is not good for me, I rarely eat out. By the way, when you say that starting next week your going to eat breakfast does that mean your starting on Monday? I find its helpful to use specific days to start things instead of vague terms like next week. For instance instead of saying "I am going to run week 8 of C25K this week" I say things like "I am running week 8 of C25K on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday of this week." Then I cant put it off till tomorrow. Its Sunday so I got to run. So I am putting you on the spot. What day are you going to start breakfast? and What day are you going to start journaling? I think those 2 things should be your goals for this week. (Of course that is just my opinion.) I hope you have a good weekend. -
I consider myself an organized hoarder. And I do it with food. :smilielol5: I have found that I can put it back in the refrigerator instead of the trash, even if its only one bite and this helps me tremendously.

You poor baby! I wish I were there, I would mother on you. I have tears in my eyes reading your post but you did a good thing! It may be a rough start but you are going to be so happy. Plus your just 23, boy I wish I had this when I was 23, its going to make your life so much easier. Think happy thoughts, a positive outlook helps so much. A few weeks of liquids is so much better than a life time of being obese. You can do it. I promise. -

LeighaMason replied to SavvyCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Encouraging others to disregard their Dr's advice is irresponsible. If you want to jeopardize your health that is your option but to promote it to others is wrong. People who are newly banded might read these posts and think that if you did it they should as well and harm themselves. Just because you didn't have immediate effects doesn't mean that you didn't harm yourself, only time will tell. And quite frankly, on this forum, you get what you project. If you project attitude, you get it back. Just like in real life, if you show up at a social event and start calling people names, it usually doesn't go that well for you, the same thing happens here. -

Gloria-- Here is a link to a study that was released about the sleeve. If I lost my band, I would have the sleeve revision. Of course, just because that is what I would do doesn't mean its what you should, we each have to find our own way, but I thought you might like to see the studly.
