banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stacie-- I'm glad your band is OK, worrying about slips and erosion is my new past time. I get heart burn a lot but I think my problem is like Bob I eat so much spicy food. Dottie-- In case you are reading and not feeling like posting, I am thinking of you. Jackie-- 66 MILES! Whew! I downloaded the iMapMyRun app for my iphone and it records lots of cool info that you can send to their web site as well and I love it. Congrats on losing. Karen-- I know I couldn't do what I do if my son was small, I think you are really dedicated to do as much as you do. I have had AT&T since 1991, I have never had a problem with them. Denise-- I love the rings too. Topaz is so pretty. Great news! I finished C25K this morning. I ran the full 5K without stopping, it took 41:23, so I need to start working on my time (especially since Betsy walks faster than I "run") but I am so excited about the fact that I can run that long. My goal is to run for an hour and burn 600 calories, three times a week. I also bought tomatoes yesterday and I am going to can them this weekend. We have already eaten 3 jars of the peaches that I canned last weekend. :tt1: -
I did it! W9D3 today, I ran the whole 5K without stopping. It took just over 41 min but I am so proud of myself.

weight loss vs inches lost
LeighaMason replied to missgypsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Both, since I have been doing the couch to 5K program its been 9 weeks, I have only lost 4 pounds but I have lost an inch off of each thigh. When it gets down to the nitty gritty it helps to have something in writing to keep you encouraged. -
Neyad, Its so good to hear from you! I'm glad your doing well. Just let those others pass you, you will be doing the passing soon enough, just keep walking. SN: Ha Ha! My sister says "big honking thing" too.

I eat a Greek yogurt 30 min before I run, it gives me enough carbs for energy plus protein and only has 140 calories. Good luck.

I wonder about the lack of fruits and veggies. I see melon and salad but that doesn't seem much. Plus you have 2 shakes, a bar, and 2 deli flats which I am estimating at around 600 calories of processed food, or around 1/3 of your overall intake. I personally do better when I have less than 10% processed food and eat more whole foods.

Can 15 or 17 year olds have lapband surgery?
LeighaMason replied to pattygreen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Patty! What are you doing out here? (Kidding!) I think it depends on the teen. As you and I have discussed before, I was living on my own at 15, (I had been legally "divorced" from my parents) supporting myself and finishing high school. I think I was mature enough to have followed the requirements. However, my 15 year old son, he isn't, so I would not let him have the band, no matter how much he needed it. That being said, there are Dr's who will do the procedure (off label) but I don't think there are insurance companies who will pay for it. -
How many calories do you burn at the gym???
LeighaMason replied to jen36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Body Bugg said today when I walked 5 min and then ran the rest of the 5k I burned 440 calories which is wonderful because I am trying to work up to running for an hour and I should burn 600 calories doing that. -
How important are the rules really?
LeighaMason replied to SavvyCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sloan-- I recommend you avoid restaurant food, at least for a while. It really packs on the salt which helps retain water and shows on the scales. It takes 14,000 calories to add 4 pounds so I really don't think that is your problem. (I am going to ask my favorite question now) Are you journaling your food? (I know, a lot of people don't have to, it makes it seem like at diet, etc.) But if your struggling it might help you. I personally thought I was doing everything right until I started journaling and I found I was kidding myself. -
Hey everybody! Czy, a 8K on the 4th of July! Holy crap how hot is it going to be? And 2- 10K's? Your my hero. Lifting-- If you can run 2-2.5 miles, I don't think you need the C25K. I could barely run the 60 seconds when I started so I had to do the whole thing. I ran W9D2 this morning in glorious cloud cover and 75 degrees at 7:30! Woo hoo! It felt so good that I kept running after my 30 was up as a matter of fact I ran the whole rest of the 5K! So I walked the first .35mi in 5 min and then ran the rest of the 5K, WITHOUT STOPPING! (OK stopping to cross the street but thats all) On Friday I am going to try and run the whole 5K with no walking and I hope to be under 40 min. Here is my new plan, as soon as I can cover the 5K with no walking I am going to restart the c25K program but instead of walking I am going to do my regular jogging speed and when it says run I am going to run faster and hopefully build up my speed just like I built up my running. I downloaded iMapMyRun on my iphone and it uses the gps to track my run, show my time, min per mile and lots of cool stuff and then you can save it and go to the website to see graphs and other stuff plus post it to facebook. I also ran with a bottle of Water today, I wake up early and drink a glass of water and then I eat yogurt before I run but it takes me 20 min to eat it and then I wait 30 before I run which doesn't leave me any time to really get hydrated. So I took the water and sipped some at the stop lights and it seemed to help as well. Of course, it also wasn't 400 degrees like usual so maybe that was part of it too.....

Am I really at THIS point?
LeighaMason replied to bigbipper's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The difference being that on a traditional diet I am HUNGRY! With the band I still watch what I eat and exercise but I know I can continue to live this way forever. When I dieted I knew that once I stopped the hunger would make me regain, now the HUNGER! is gone. Yes, now when its time to eat I get hungry but it is a normal, controllable hunger. -
this is me being cute / being happy that ive had lost.

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't run this morning like I was suppose to. I went bowling Saturday night with my son and his girlfriend and my hamstrings have been so sore every since. OK excuses are over. I do only have 2 runs left in the C25K but I am only covering about 2.5 miles in the 30 min so I am going to start bumping my min by 2 min a week until I can run the whole 5K instead of walk 5/run 30/walk 8 that it is taking me now. I forgot to tell y'all when I went to south Texas last week I got a box of fresh peaches and my mother in law and I canned them Sunday they are so good. I had some last night on my cottage cheese. -
If I go too long without eating I get hungry and stay that way for the rest of the day, the only thing that fixes it is to go to sleep at night and then it resets the next morning. To keep this from happening I eat something every couple of hours, even if its just a yogurt, Protein bar, or shake. I think it has something to do with my blood sugar but that is just my personal opinion. So to keep my calories in line I eat 3 meals at 250 calories each and 2 Snacks at 150 calories or less each.

LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I am in on Labor Day challenge, I will see if Shammah will do another spreadsheet for us! If everyone wants to we can start on July 5th for starting weight (using our final weigh in from here) and weigh in every Monday again for 9 weeks, ending on Sept 6th, Labor day? What do y'all think? I'm with you Tinks my attention span isn't long enough to think about Christmas yet! -
4th of July Challenge!
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is the rub, I started only counting whole pounds in the beginning and now that it takes 10 days to lose a pound I want to do tenths as well! But I am going to stick with my whole pound counting and just add next weeks .5 to this weeks .5 and go with that, so I am entering 0 this week. :scared2: "WAAAAA! (OK whining and excuses are over) -
I think running really tones your legs, in the 8 weeks since I started I have only lost 4 pounds but my thighs have gone from 23" to 22" and no longer touch! :scared2::biggrin: My 15 year old son ran with me Sunday morning, we went at 7 am so it would be cooler. We ran the whole 30 min and when the time was up we were about 200 yards from the corner so I told him, lets stop when we get to the corner so he then proceeds to sprint to the corner, left me like I was standing still, man it would be nice to have a 15 year old body again! I ate yogurt before my run and it really helps, I have to get up early because I have to eat so slow in the mornings and it takes 20 min just to eat a yogurt and then wait 30 min after I am through to let it settle. Congrats on finishing week 2! Let me know how you do this week as well. I am going to run tomorrow and I will graduate on Friday, I am running the 30 min but I am not covering a 5K yet, so I am going to keep stepping up my runs weekly until I am covering the whole distance. So even though I am officially through with C25K I am going to stick around on this thread, if you don't mind.

Heavy drinker considering surgery
LeighaMason replied to bayareanan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When I first read this last night my reaction was of course you shouldn't have it done if you are going to keep drinking, but then I thought well being banded and weighing less and still drinking is better than staying obese and still drinking. Maybe if you started having some success in losing you might decide to reduce your drinking more. Good luck with whatever you decide. -
How does smoking affect you pre-surgery?
LeighaMason replied to Aaron50's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Blood clots, infection, breathing impairment, what else do you need to know? My Dr does a nicotine test the morning before surgery if you have any trace of it he sends you home without a band. -
Fears of failure
LeighaMason replied to Adventure Girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If the band worked without fills it would not have a port. Probably less than .01% of band patients are lucky enough to never need a fill. So basically 99.99% of us feel like you do. Once you start getting restriction you will feel full on less food, for now just fake it till you make it. Eat like you have restriction, practice getting small portions, cut your food in small bites and chew, chew, chew. -
A big Texas Howdy to you!!

Hungry too soon after I eat?
LeighaMason replied to MrsShannonDennis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally think as long as you keep your calories down it doesn't matter if you eat every couple of hours. I eat 5 times a day. Whatever works for you is what you should do, but if you can only eat a small meal I wouldn't recommend a fill.
